HEALTHY VALENTINE'S DAY TREAT! Colorful Canapés made with Homemade Nut Crackers and Beet Hummus.

  • In this episode of Nutrition with Lorelei, I'll show you how to make Colorful Canapés with Homemade Nut Crackers and Beet Hummus. Decorated to look like fancy cookies, these vegetable adorned treats are made with whole foods! But will Joe appreciate that his Valentine's Day treat is healthy?
    Valentine's Day Canapés are a savory, healthy Valentine's Day treat that can substitute for a more traditional sweet treat while still being special. A healthy Valentine's Day Recipe with components such as gluten free nut crackers and homemade beet hummus that can be made any time of year.
    NUT CRACKER RECIPE:
    1 cup almond flour
    2 Tb Flax Meal
    2 Tb Sunflower Seeds
    1/4 tsp onion powder
    1/4 tsp garlic powder
    1/2 tsp salt
    1/2 tsp Italian herbs
    1 Tb olive oil
    1/4 cup marinara sauce (or 2 Tb tomato paste + 2 Tb water)
    Mix everything together. Roll out thin between sheets of parchment. Cut or score and bake on bottom layer of parchment on baking sheet in 350 degree oven for about 15 minutes, until crisp and lightly browned. (may not really crisp til after they cool)
