Somehow drew didn't realize that the language map wasn't showing how hard a language is, just how hard it is for english speakers. Basically, how different it is. Even though it's not the exact same, native speakers will always find their language about the same difficulty.
idk why arabic is considered so hard tho, like yeah the vocabulary is very different from english but so is indonesian's the grammar is not that hard, especially compared to a monster like georgian

As a mexican I can say that hispanic culture tends to be pretty self aware, we don't take ourselves too seriously because that's seen as childish. In Mexico almost everybody is critical of their culture and goverment, not sure why but seeing that Spain is also like that it might be a cultural thing shared by all hispanic countries.
I'd imagine the civil wars and stuff might have played a role in it. Also Spain has lot of cultures like the Basques who would probably disagree about Spanish culture as a whole being so great.

As Finnish it's really easy and fast to learn Japanese, like crazy easy... English is much harder but since every Finn starts learning English on first/second grade it's hard to think how hard it would be to learn English as a adult. Romance languages are very hard since there is so many silent letters and weird twists in pronouncing that for me personally those languages are no go. Also as a Finnish person I can tell you that if you wanna be able to understand Finnish fluently in whole Finland, it's one of the hardest languages there is to learn. However if you ask Finn to speak clearly and drop the slangs/accents etc then you can learn Finnish in few weeks without problems since everything is pronounced as written, you just gotta figure out those double vowels and you will be good to go. ( I used to speak pretty hard to understand way of Finnish because it was deep old Karelian with lots of different Eastern Finnish accents + Toroppalan "T" which means that all "T"s were "D"s. After moving to the capital it was hard to speak with people because they thought I spoke another language and I seriously hate how Finns speak Finnish in Southern Finland and unfortunately that same style has changed my way of speaking too.)

Essentially, you should at least triple if not quadruple the number of weeks to get a more accurate picture. The key is the number of hours.
Sure Indonesian language may seems easy to learn.. and yes it's actually easy.. but it's the formal, rigid and textbook version that's easy.. But to really master the pronunciation, and the words used in daily conversation, and to speak fluently like an Indonesian.. it's easier said than done.. And even if you confident that you're already master it, try going to different regions or provinces and you'll find they used a different versions of Indonesian, some are just slightly different, others are much different.. because of local languages influence on it..

This kind of german is used in all formalities and our government, and is also rather certainly what the ETH teaches. Finnish language isnt usually spoken on the streets like its written. We use a lot of slang words, like 35% of our words are "changed"

7:22 Canada DID have that temperature that far north. Worse actually. It hit 50C (122F) in Lytton BC on June 29, 2021. The town then burnt down in wildfires.
