Potassium, the K in NPK is the component needed for fruit production. So if you have well established green growth already, you’ll want to consider 3-5-5 or 9-12-12 ratio for this application. Cheers!
Light weight PVC or metal pole stock made into a low upside pen with chicken wire Top and Sides, attached with zip ties. Put skid's on the front of each side, with the front tip angled up to make it slide easier ? Maybe two middle skid's if large enough to need them. Tow it with the for Wheeler??? :-) Everyone is losing Chickens because the predictors just jumping or climbing over their high fences!!!! You get to figure out the opening to feed them that easiest for you???
Bout the eggs. We have completely diff set up as I'm from the tropics (PH). But maybe add more chips to the nesting boxes??? We line our woven baskets (tucked inbetween joists and beams) with old rags making then extra extra soft. Yet the hens still bite 😅😅
It's Monday! Time for Lumhun Acres again. Yaaaa!!!! Goats, chickens, and piggies are going to be fed. Figerooo, Pluto and Tanner all watching the flocks. Have a nice day,💙🌻🌹💙🌻🌹💙🌻🌹💙🌻🌹💙🌻🌹💙🌻🌹💙🌻🌹💙🌻🌹💙🌻🌹💙🌻🌹💙🌻🌹💙🌻🌹💙🌻🌹💙🌻🌹💙🌻🌹💙🌻🌹💙🌻🌹💙🌻🌹💙🌻🌹💙🌻🌹💙🌻🌹💙🌻🌹

Very therapeutic to watch Gina calmly pick, wash and cut cucumbers. I’m already at work in Go. Go. Go. mode. Need reminder every now and then to slow down. 🙂
The bumble bee population seems quite happy in your greenhouse. This is going to save Gina a lot of time. Now she isn't going to be the busy one going from flower to flower. hahaha. Love Olivia's little bee suit. She looked real cute . Y'all have a Blessed day.
I looked into honey bees and it was just so overwhelming. But now you have my curiosity peaked with these bumble bees. Excited to learn more and see how they do for you!
Goooooood Afternoon , Al , Gina & Olivia , I learned something today ! I didn't know that you could buy Bumblebees. I have heard that they are actually better pollinators than honeybees. Of course honeybees also give us honey. Life is full of surprises with a Chinese wife. Ling had asked me if I wanted to have some pancakes for lunch ? I said , sure . I was expecting , you know , pancakes with blueberries and some maple syrup. What I was served were very thin pancakes made with chopped up onion tops , lettuce , and no maple syrup ! Tasty yes , but certainly not what I was expecting. No wonder she gave me an odd look when I suggested that she use some buttermilk to make the batter. lol In the garden , Ling also picks the male squash blossoms to pollinate the female blossoms. And then she brings the male blossoms into the house and cooks them for supper. Xaioling boils them I think. To tell the truth , I don't like them very much. She loves them. I've heard of the blossoms being dipped into batter and then fried. I might like that better than boiled.
I had to laugh at the chicken who found the goat feed. lol How fun that you got bumble bees! They will be great in the greenhouse, making those veggies produce even more. I love Olivia in her bee suit, so cute. That is a nice crop of cucumbers and zucchini! I so love both of them. I bet your pickles are going to be amazing! Everything is looking so beautiful on the homestead.
Olivia is such a big help now! She is so knowledgeable about goats, chickens, pigs, bees and gardening! She knows a lot more that other kids her age . Good job mom and dad! God bless you!
I learned to pet our native bumblebees when I was a child, and they were gathering pollen from hollyhock flowers. Never been stung by one. They are so soft, not aggressive at all and will walk on people. No bee suit even when Dad and I raised honey bees, just veil. Loved it.
The Bombus (bumble bees) will sometimes float above your head, flying in a lazy circle. Nothing to be alarmed about. That greenhouse is SLAMMIN'. Looks terrific.
I ve had good relationships with bumble bees! Long ago when i lived in a city apartment, bumblebees made a nest on my balcony. And later four or five years in a row they had a nest on my patio 😋 they are friendly and peaceful and superb at pollination work 🤗 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝
Love the zukes, too! Especially like to cut them into 2 inch sticks and dip them in a Panang(sp?) sauce. It is peanut butter with some soy sauce added with a bit of warm water to thin it. I also add hot peppers and fish sauce (more like a Thai recipe "Panang"), but it is delish either way. Makes a great snack. Thank you, Al & Gina & Olivia & all the critters for sharing your daily doings. I feel uplifted and joyous when I watch you all. 🙏 😊
i wish i had a girl like gina. she works so well with you. i had a big garden and my girl was not interested in gardening or cooking at all. god has truly smiled on you.
@soaringtractor lol she fixed that problem, she had a lot of dudes beside me, she wanted to run around while i was in the garden, at least i can laugh about it.
YOU GUYS HAVE CREATED HEAVEN ON EARTH WITH YOUR HOMESTEAD Your the best, keep the videos coming your teaching the rest of us how to live a productive life.
Good Morning & much love I hope you all have a blessed & wonderful day today take care & always keep on being you & always smiling Al Gina & Olivia ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
We appreciated you educating us on your need & showing us how that hive worked even if it meant you got stung, Al! What a sacrifice on your part! Hubby says he’s hungry for pickles now!
Hello all, I would put another block with the bumble bees and tie the box down in case of a strong wind that might arise. I can see it turning over if you don't see a thunder boomer start up ..Great harvest today. Thanks for sharing your farm with us.
Thank you so much AL and Gina and Olivia! I appreciate it so much, all the information you share. My garden has just gone crazy and everything is doing well not as well as yours but I only have 200 ft² so anyway I'm very grateful thank you very much!
Monday morning, one of my favorite days..... We get to FT with 3 friend couples from LI and see you guys after a day off.... I’ve said it before... a day without the Lumnah Clan is like a day without Sunshine 🌞
I hope the bumble bees do a great job for you. You large zucchini are just the right size for zucchini boats. There are many recipes on the web; however, Tina @ bumble bee Junction has a video of making some. God Bless
Your viewers had a great idea about putting bumble bees into the greenhouse. I have never seen that before. So...It was neat seeing a box with their little hive inside. And they can pollinate your veggies. I need to look into that. I also just ordered the tomato twine and clips from Johnny’s Selected Seeds. We have a PVC made greenhouse so I will have to figure out how to trellis that way. Thank you for sharing with us your homesteading tips. Love your pickling cucumber harvest. We love pickles!!
You guys are so cute with the bee suits. Every day in my tiny courtyard I have at least 7 to 10 wild bumble bees who potter around happily with me and my two cats. I absolutely love them I love to see their saddle bags grow on their legs and even my kitties have grown to to love to just watch them buzz happily among my plants. Next year I am only growing food. This is my first year growing anything and it's been so rewarding. Please enjoy the bees.
Chickens still getting out, we had a few and after clipping one side "short" (that is down near the flesh and bone area, they could no longer fly in a straight line, so could not fly over our 6-foot tall fence. So clipping and raising your fence would solve your problem keeping your egg layers from laying eggs elsewhere to attract critters, that may very well start killing your chickens. I like your operation and how you have created a natural loop ecosystem.
Al, So glad you are looking into free ranging turkeys and meat birds. I know this is your homestead, but just hate to see them with that cover over their heads. At night I can understand. I know this is a work in progress and think y'all do such a great job, loving your animals, and taking great care of them. Love the way you talk to them. And I love where you end the daily show with you, Gina and Olivia fixing a meal, praying and eating. Thank you.
I'm reminded of my mom's canning. She'd make tons of things. Chow Chow , watermelon rind pickle, bread & butter pickles, dill pickkles with our own dill & garlic & every incarnation of tomatoesto be had😄
Your garden is exploding! As always love the goats. You lost me at Bumble Bee's though. Beverly allergic to bee stings. I do hope they help you with pollination though. Have a great week.
Dya remember when you bought meal worms for the chickens and they loved them? Remember how their egg production increased for that time while you had that packet! I kinda think you need some more.... ❤️💕🤗
I used to occasionally run over bumblebee nests when mowing hay and let me tell you, they are the meanest critters with wings. They will chase you for what seemed like forever.
JudithB 24 yrs ago when we built here, I ordered paks of Ladybugs and Praying Mantis and bought Canadian Nightcrawers at the store. I see lots of them around in the gardens. The native Bumbles and wild honeybees are working hard too. I have 4 supers and hope to get more bees next spring to restart the hives. Got to finish repairs and garden box beds this year! So far so good!!!
I remember our chickens back in the day on our farm would always find soft beds of straw and would lay eggs more often then not, seldom if ever did we find eggs on hard services. Try strawing all the beds keeping fresh straw in them !
What a cool idea to get bumble bees in the green house 😄👍 would you consider doing a bee flower garden bed for the other bees or just leave them with the clover grass? Those cucumbers look awesome once pickled 😋
Good morning Al & Gina- These appear to be hybrid bumble bees, designed for green houses. I am not sure if they overwinter, like native bumble bees. The University of Maine is well versed on bumble bees. They did a Maine bumble bee census about 6 or 7 years ago and were very helpful to me. We use native bumble bees in our gardens, attracting them with the marvelous herb, Borage. Some encouraging information. I have worked in closely planted gardens, LOADED with so many NH native bumble bees that it was deafening and I never got stung! They were too happy and busy in the Borage and the squash! The Borage contains Omega-3, which is great for the bees. I only sugar the Borage blossoms or put them in salads or dry them. Their leaves can stress your liver in the raw form. I buy the organic oil in capsules. Enjoy those bees! They remind me of bees in teddy bear suits! P.S. I brought Borage to our woodland garden and now I have a small specie of bumble bee and some tiny wild bees pollinating. Great pickle recipe! ~Diane
Do you ever make sweet pickles or Bread and Butter pickles? Those are my favorite types to eat too many of! That is an interesting fact you shared about Bee habit life. 🐝
My hubby took an old trailer frame, built a simple frame on top with just a few cross pieces out of wood, then stapled a tarp over it. We let most of the tarp drape to the ground but cut one end so that it was halfway to the ground for them to get in and out. We pastured them inside a Premier electric fence. The first batch, we moved around the raspberry patch with one end in the shade. I attached a 14" x 45" bird netting over the other end to prevent aerial predators. The second batch we have in a more wooded area with tall grass inside to protect them from aerial. So far no losses and they were far happier outside than in a small coop.
Al The Way you are raising your Chickens is the best way. I raised meat birds when i lived in Idaho and we built a chicken coop and run Behind our garage and kept them in there at night. We had the worry of predators getting them too. Keep up the Good Work on Raising the Meat Birds the way you are.
Al, we have our meat birds in a chicken tractor AND they free range. We built a small door in one side of the tractor so the birds can go in and out, and they’re contained in an electric poultry fence with a solar charger. We open the door every morning after we’ve moved the tractor and shut them in every night for safety. Gives the birds the best of both worlds.
Good Mornin Lumnah Acres Olivia looked so cute in her bee outfit she’s growing so fast just like your plants in the greenhouse are you sure Al your not giving her the fish fertilizer 😂 And yes this year we have so many grasshoppers & preying manitis so many little babies. Always enjoy watching your videos in the morning after chores & coffee.
I'm not surprised you got stung. You kept tapping on their box while you were talking about them. With the travel and the thumps, they were upset. LOL. I think they will add to your greenhouse fertilization. Way to go.
Free range is great for layers, but on my parents farm they found out that the turkey's because they exercised they tended to have developed more muscle and tougher meat, and the turkey's that were contained there meat was much more soft and juicier.
My hens are 2 yrs old and they have slacked on the egg laying..I think ISA BROWNS are the best egg layers... I have barred rocks..buff orphingtans ...amber links..was getting 16 eggs a day now 6 to 8..maybe the heat. It's so nice you work together on projects. Love and Prayers Grandma Carol
You could always do an experiment with the meat birds. You have many that were raised in the tractor, so it would be easy to see which tastes better, and is easier to process, and which ones are larger. I'd assume that keeping them in a smaller area would lead to larger birds, and therefore more meat, as they're burning less calories to get around. And in the tractor they're definitely going to be cleaner! I wouldn't be surprised if they -do- already get grasshoppers in their tractors. I'm excited to see what works best for y'all!
We have no honey bees! But our one bumble bee must have sent out a signal that we have some summer flowers and zinnias. It is fun to watch the fat bumble bees at work.
Great video as always..Earlier this summer a couple of bumblebees were going under my shed, but they were disturbed and left. I think they were making a hive. Awesome video and learned lots 😊
Good Monday mornin Moose Crossing ... that's the first I've seen a bumblebee hive. I don't have many bumbles frequenting my garden, but I do have quite a few Mason beez. Time for an Easter egg hunt? Nora is definitely a Mini-Me! Have a great week AL, Gina & the other Mini-Me Olivia ~8^) Take care.
Justin Rhodes has something like what you may want called the sheepshaw I think. Really just looks like plywood on wheels, but it keeps them protected from heat and predators from above, then also with his chickens he has a goose in there with them.
Saw a Thumbnail on RUclips for dehydrated slices of zucchini and summer squash. I did not watch the video but they sure looked good. So much fun watching your silliness in the greenhouse.
Thank you for sharing your life with us. I look forward to the videos each day. As to the free ranging your meat birds or for that matter any of the chickens I will share what worked for me for the years I raised from 15 to 40 chickens on my small farm. I built a approx one quarter acre enclosed chicken yard with the smaller chicken wire. I turned it outward about a foot at the bottom so no predators could crawl in under the fence. Here's the key to this yard. Within the yard I placed randomly spaced upright poles throughout the yard. I buried the posts approx 1 foot so as to stand up on its own I placed wooden 1 x 4's at the top from each to each until I had the entire yard crisscrossed with these. Then I stretched the small chicken wire across the top of the entire yard and fastened it to the boards thereby covering the entire chicken yard. I made the enclosed area high enough for me to walk under the overhead wire. This is a permanently enclosed area which the chickens will eat to bare ground in a short time. The chicken house was inside the enclosed area. In all the years I never had a predator enter the yard.
Wow! All the way up the plant vine with the cucumber harvesting! Neat! Well done, Lumnahs.

Those cucumber vines looks awesome. Haven't had much luck with mine, always seems to get heavy caterpillar pressure.
We appreciated you educating us on your need & showing us how that hive worked even if it meant you got stung, Al! What a sacrifice on your part! Hubby says he’s hungry for pickles now!

Remember when you thought you needed a smaller basket, Gina? 😁 Happy family, happy channel! Thank you Lumnah Family!
wake up every morning to watch your videos Al. Young guy hoping to have a set up like yours one day. Keep up the hard work and great content.
Thank you so much AL and Gina and Olivia! I appreciate it so much, all the information you share. My garden has just gone crazy and everything is doing well not as well as yours but I only have 200 ft² so anyway I'm very grateful thank you very much!
Good morning from NC. Ya'll are doing a wonderful job. Thank you so much for sharing your family!
Wow I can't believe how well your greenhouse is producing! Doesn't seem like that long ago that you finish building it!👍
Great video! Thanks. Yes I think the chickens that are running loose may be laying elsewhere. Glad you got Bumble Bees. Such an interesting journey.
Oh my goodness! Olivia is so cute in the Bee suit! You have a wonderful family!
Monday morning, one of my favorite days..... We get to FT with 3 friend couples from LI and see you guys after a day off.... I’ve said it before... a day without the Lumnah Clan is like a day without Sunshine 🌞
The question isn't who hasn't been laying their eggs, it should be where else are they laying them. Remember that nest of eggs by the trees early on?
And in the wood store
They are laying elsewhere stands to reason
Bill E - Or maybe a snake is coming in and eating some and then leaving.
Bill E - Lumnah Acres said in an earlier reply that they have been looking but not finding any.
@@tonygrimes13 I guess people dont read the comments of others.lol same questions over and over again.😂
I love dill pickle spears. I have them with every meal. I go threw about a gallon every month. I wish i could make them fresh like you are.
Those bumblebees are busy little bees. The garden looks great...a big harvest.
Livy is so cute in her little bee suit! I think that she is growing up such an amazing young lady.
Always interesting , I enjoy watching your quietly intelligent family and pious too , a plus in my eyes .
That was exciting watching you guys put in another bee hive! I glad you were ok after that sting ! Can't wait until the pickles are ready ! 😊👍💕💕💕

I just learned here in Seattle, wa. That bumble bees are the PERFECT pollinator for potatoes..😁 the vibrations.. Help better then honey bees
Mashallah, that is plenty of cucumbers. So happy for you guys!

Good Morning Lumnah Acers
Wow. Bumble bees. Fantastic. Great video. Your pickles will be so good
Yummy. 👍💖
David Straub - Lumnah Acres said in an earlier reply that they have been looking but not finding any.
Gotta give it to that chicken for finding the goat feed. 😂
Goooood morning this morning from the MS gulf coast everyone have a great day.
Good morning from S.M. CA
Your greenhouse is amazing! Everything is growing so well.
👍🏻🌻💕🙏🏻🙏🏻
Maverick and Goose were running like they got caught with their beaks in the cookie jar.
My grandma made all kinds of faux "fruit" . Zucchini pineapple is awesome to make cake and cookies with... I love watching the ducks run.

Justin Rhodes has something like what you may want called the sheepshaw I think. Really just looks like plywood on wheels, but it keeps them protected from heat and predators from above, then also with his chickens he has a goose in there with them.
Olivia is so adorable in her bee suit!
Saw a Thumbnail on RUclips for dehydrated slices of zucchini and summer squash. I did not watch the video but they sure looked good. So much fun watching your silliness in the greenhouse.
Good morning Lumnah family ☕️ sunshine and smiles from vacation 😎 one more day and back to reality... have a blessed day
Love your videos my wife loves the goats so much !! We love the garden also especially the hot house! Keep it up !
