I feel like Machamp would be a better fit than Hitmonlee. You can get Machamp in the underground path to Vermillion. You have to trade a Cubone to a little girl for a Machoke, which turns into Machamp when she trades it to you.

@Nick Cruz For real, this team is way too physical oriented for Gen 1. Forgiving Pikachu (because you gotta keep the starter), Dugtrio and Hitmonlee have no business being on a Gen 1 team. Even catching a Mankey vs. a Nidoran male is a joke. Even if you don't plan on having a FULL EVOLVED POKEMON BEFORE THE 2ND GYM, Nidoran learns Double Kick at level 12 in Yellow which is not only higher accuracy than Mankey's level 9 low kick, but arguably does more damage per use (with a little luck). Dodrio I actually like, it's offbeat and is actually a good Pokemon for a flier, but again outside of HM utility you get very little out of it. Charizard si quad-weak to rock which in Gen 1 is also an issue (especially in PvP where Rhyhorn and Golem are top tier) and can't learn Fly. I'd have gone Articuno personally despite the mediocre type coverage because of how devastating FZN was in Gen 1.

When I did my yellow run, I had pikachu, nidoking, charizard, venusaur, snorlax and blastoise. I thought it was a solid team, until I accidentally came across a staryu as I approached cinnabar island. I switched the staryu with blastoise and evolved it into starmie, and starmie was the total mvp during my battles against elite four and blue. 10/10 recommend starmie.
The Pokémon Yellow Pikachu does not have increased stats or any sort of power up, the only difference is that it received a moveset reshuffling, which is useless. Eevee is still available in Yellow at the exact same location, and Jolteon is the best electric type in Kanto, getting Thunderbolt through the TM received from Surge ((Lapras can serve perfectly well without it)) and outclassing Pikachu in basically every single stat. Use Pikachu until Celadon and then get ready to toss it in the trash and replace it.
Snorlax also helps destroy Sabrina’s Abra-fam. Such a high Special to resist their psychic attacks, plus their pitiful defense against Body Slam helps since they have no viable type weaknesses

Yeah,he even said that Hitmonlee wasn’t even needed since Pikachu had a fighting type move,so i don’t know why he didn’t replace him with Venesaur because there wasn’t any other grass poison types.

Cost for Yellow Remastered Team... TM 17...(x2) 3000 Poké (each) TM 48... 300 Poké (LOL!!) TM 15... 5500 Coins (Oof!) 5500 Coins X20 Poké per Coin = 110000 Poké Final Total: 116300 Poké. Better get to saving those Poké!! (And this is not counting playing the slots for RNG shortcut) Not as bad as other regions, but still expensive overall!! Great job guys!! Love this team!!

lapras is pretty cool. Ill give you that. and nice and bulky. but you get it relatively late (af Saffron. halfway through silph co/team rocket). And then it's level 15.. By that time you could have also trained the squirtle from officer Jenny or the magikarp at the pokecentre at mt moon (to level 20 at least) ....
also if you pick up bellsprout at cerulean and train it. you have an edge against Misty with a grass type. and you can also make use of the OP stun spore/ wrap combo. which comes in pretty early. It's an easy to get pokemon (just above the nugget bridge) and grass doesnt get a lot of damage from electric (the next gym typing) either. I think bellsprout is pretty underrated in gen 1

2:30 Bro, what are you talking about? Pikachu is exactly the same as any wild pikachu from gen 1, it just gets a move reshuffle so it can work as a starter. The friendship stat doesn't do anything either
@@andrewnixon5657 if I had to guess I would say that it's because it was developed after R&B were already a success and they had a sequel on the pipeline so they just added that detail to incentivice trading. I checked the gamefiles myself and the starter pikachu stats in yellow are the same as any pikachu from gen 1, and friendship only makes him do a different face(that and a more hidden mood stat). I would agree that the starter pikachu is somewhat different from the other ones(in the sense that he alone possesses the friendship, mood and lightball) but that's about it

Pokémon Yellow’s pikachu and the Partner Pikachu (which is slightly smaller apparently) can both learn pay day. Partner Eevee in Let’s go Eevee can also learn payday.
I used three of these Pokemon on my Let's Go Pikachu team (even having the same moves for Lapras). The only difference is I used Ninoqueen for my ground type and Hitmonchan for my fighting type (as it get's more type coverage after gen 4).
Hi Mystic would ever attempt to make canon teams for each generation? I know there is no canon team as it is the player’s choice. For HG/SS my favourite starter is Totodile, however I would say Ethan’s can starter would be Cyndaquil since Totodile is better suited to Silver. Plus one of Silver’s name options is Kamon and I read somewhere that the name Kamon means or is associated with “Alligator.” Red has 2 canon teams (DS games and Let’s Go games respectively) so he is pretty much covered. What about the other game protagonists?
@Nick Cruz not bad, but there is a lack of coverage there. Typically try to utilize every member of a team to their fullest potential, which is why I stick with Surf, Ice Beam, Thunderbolt and Psychic. Lapras is only weak to grass, fighting and electric. With that moveset, the only "threat" is electric types.
Mmm I beg to differ on the frailty against Fighting types and the damage output of Psychic Especially once natures are introduced. A good Modest Lapras will steamroll a good majority of mons, with or without high sp def. If I'm not mistaken, doesn't Thunderbolt paralyze as well? Also, Lapras are more special atk oriented than physical.
@Nick Cruz ah, wasn't sure about the statistics for sp and phy atk. I guess I just always assumed it was more of a Specialist than raw damage from physical moves. Yeah, that 20% makes quite a difference. Though it is nice having a water type that can counter its own typing if need be.
Just out of curiosity, have you ever considered mentioning HM Slaves? There aren’t very many in R/B/Y, but there are a few decent ones. For instance, Charizard (only in Yellow 😭) gets Cut, Fly and Strength (plus Flamethrower or Fire Blast). Then you could use Starmie for Surf and Flash (along with Psychic and Recover). In Red and Blue, my go-to slaves are Dux the Farfetch’d (Cut and Fly, plus two other moves of your choice) and Slowbro (Surf, Strength, and Flash, plus Psychic). Why am I bringing this up? Because I’d like to see a team that actually incorporates HM Slaves as part of the main game. Sure, they may not be that great against most opponents, but that’s what the other four members are mostly for. Obviously, the Sun and Moon series are out, since there aren’t ANY HM’s, but what about the other generations? Who are your choice HM Slaves in each series?
Weirdly if you play with only Pokemon Ash caught in the anime (and their evolutions) you'd have a pretty good team. Pikachu, Bulbasaur (Venusaur), Squirtle (Blastoise), Charizard, Snorlax, I'd use Butterfree for catching Pokemon and then switch over to Haunter (Gengar) in Lavender Town or Tauros after the Safari Zone

Well, the first time I played Yellow, I was crazy - and patient - enough to raise Pikachu to level 20, so it learned Slam, before fighting Brock. (Chuckle.) Yeah, I was an idiot.
Primeape Ability: No Ability - Strength - Low Kick - Rock Slide - Dig Nidoking (M) Ability: No Ability - Earthquake - Thunder - Ice Beam - Horn Drill Victreebel Ability: No Ability - Cut - Razor Leaf - Sleep Powder - Wrap Jolteon Ability: No Ability - Thunderbolt - Double Kick - Pin Missile - Thunder Wave Starmie Ability: No Ability - Psychic - Blizzard - Recover - Surf Dodrio Ability: No Ability - Fly - Drill Peck - Hyper Beam - Agility This team right here will do significantly better. Only thing you might wanna do is add in an Ice type like Cloyster or Lapris somewhere. Gen 1 water types are so good that most good teams will have 2 or more of them. (Anything but Blastoise) And everything can be found before the 4th Gem leader and you obtain things that are useful when you get them (like Primeape for Brock)
This team is really good and im gonna try it myself for a playthrough. The only 2 differences i personally would make is to have Hitmonlee learn mega kick instead of double edge. That would free up that TM for pikachu to have a higher damage move. Body Slam is great for paralysis but if pikachu already has thunderwave why not swoop out double edge. Actually forget Hitmonlee knowing mega kick, teach it body slam for the paralysis if it can lol. But overall great team and amazing video as always! :D

What about Jolteon? Why not use pikachu temporarily then replace it with a Jolteon. Not only is it better stats-wise but it gets two good coverage moves: Double Kick and Pin Missile. Also instead of Dugtrio shouldn't you use Nidoking? Dugtrio is faster but Nidoking has better stats overall and gets moves such as Earthquake , Rock Slide , Thrash and decent coverage like fire blast , Ice Beam , Thunderbolt and even Bubble Beam
Really, I see no reason to keep your starting Pikachu once you can get your own Jolteon with much better stats (right, they require the Thunderbolt TM). And actually, it's much easier to go through the game with a smaller team as your levels will be higher.

If there’s something I learned from using this team in Pokémon Stadium (minus the fact that I don’t have Hyper Beam on Dodrio since I am not up to gambling in Pokémon), it’s the value of coverage moves. Lapras with Thunderbolt was invaluable against Misty in the Gym Leader Castle, as it was far more durable than Pikachu while also being able to hit hard. Which reminds me, you could do videos on how well your best teams do in the Pokémon Stadium games! Kanto teams for Stadium 1 and 2, Johto for 2, Gen III best teams for Colosseum and XD postgames (since trading in those games isn’t available until then), and Gen IV teams in Battle Revolution.
How is Yellow Pikachu powered up? I don't think it has higher base stats like Let's Go pikachu does... the moveset is different, but if you trade in another pikachu from RB, that pikachu will have the same moveset as Yellow pikachu. The problem I have with these videos is that just because a Pokémon had a super affective attack, doesn’t mean it does well against that Pokémon. You say dugtrio does well against cloyster. That is insane. Cloyster easily shrugs off a rock slide due to its high defense and the lack of stab from the rock slide and can easily dispatch dugtrio.

My yellow team consisted of: 1. Pikachu 2. Nidoking 3. Gengar (later switched out for alakazam/mewtwo) 4. Gyarados 5. Snorlax 6. Golem (Later switched out for Fearow) It's a pretty insane team honestly. I still use gengar for the fighting types, since they and normal types can't even get a hit in most the time. But if im going raw power, i switch to alakazam. His coverage is very helpful too.
My yellow team was probably my favorite team of all time without including legendaries: Venasaur Charizard Dragonite Vaporeon Aerodactyl ... And Kadabra beause I had no friends :(

Can’t you get a free machamp in yellow as an in-game trade? Why not use that instead of hitmonlee? Granted, the movepool isn’t that good for machamp, but I think the stats are generally better for champ than lee. Also you get machamp right after the second gym, I think.
I always use Dodrio against Agatha. It’s as fast as the ghosts and Drill Peck absolutely wrecks their weak physical defense. Plus, no risk of paralysis from Lick or damage from night shade.
Ok... No... first off Yes you do get hit by Night shade despite being a normal type, second off Dodrio is not as fast as the ghosts but thx to stat exspearnce it really doesn't matter and just about everything on your team will always outspeed every opponent.

I was surprised you decided not to use the in-game trades Machamp and Rhydon. At first. Then I did some comparisons, and decided that Dugtrio and Hitmonlee were probably better choices. Besides, I imagine you took some flak for using Jynx in the remastered Red/Blue video. On a side note, in order to keep Pikachu both alive and happy, I ended up giving “him” every vitamin I found during the quest. It was necessary.

Loyalty Cat gen 3 is probably the most played emulated generation, lots of people play it. and there is no pokemon on the switch so far except for let’s go so no real reason to remake that
So, if I wanted to use Primeape instead of Hitmonlee, what do you think of this moveset for it? Submission, Rock Slide, Double-Edge, Focus Energy I've got Submission for stab, and Rock Slide for coverage against flying types, but I'm not 100% sure on the final two moves, your thoughts?
May I request Colosseum, XD, and maybe Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald remastered. I mean, for RSE you had a Pokémon with Hidden Power and a physical attacker with mostly Special Moves.
Why didn’t you guys put Machamp on the list? You can actually obtain one if you give a trainer in the underground tunnel a Cubone, you’ll get a Machoke in return which will immediately evolve into Machamp. It has the second highest base attack in the game, so it can easily replace Hitmonlee’s place on the list.
The only thing I would personally change is replacing Pikachu with Jolteon if we are going for best teams I know one of your rules is using the starter but you can't even evolve Pikachu in Yellow so don't mind if I throw it into the box
I feel like your not giving primeape enough credit. In gen 1 it has an insane crit chance with karate chop because of its speed. It’s like a gen 1 infernape minus fire.
I like Primeape a lot in Generation 1 but Karate Chop doesn't help that much : in Gen 1 it's normal type (no STAB) with only 50 power (100 on a crit). Still, a 100 power non STAB move is not that bad at all (but far from a Persian's 70->140 BP Slash with STAB), and it's not necessary to replace it with Body Slam. My Primeape also knew Submission, Dig and Rock Slide, but for most weak enemies Karate Chop was all I needed. Hitmonlee is probably better for Fighting type attacks due to High Jump Kick, but they barely get anything for coverage.

For Hitmonlee, I would say: Hi Jump Kick Substitute Body Slam/Strength/Double Edge (IN MY PREFFERED ORDER) Toxic/Double Team/Double Edge Well, there is a trick in gen 1 where if a pokemon is behind a substitute and uses hi jump kick/jump kick and misses, the crash recoil is ignored. This make hitmonlee inevitable.

@Nick Cruz For real, this team is way too physical oriented for Gen 1. Forgiving Pikachu (because you gotta keep the starter), Dugtrio and Hitmonlee have no business being on a Gen 1 team. Even catching a Mankey vs. a Nidoran male is a joke. Even if you don't plan on having a FULL EVOLVED POKEMON BEFORE THE 2ND GYM, Nidoran learns Double Kick at level 12 in Yellow which is not only higher accuracy than Mankey's level 9 low kick, but arguably does more damage per use (with a little luck). Dodrio I actually like, it's offbeat and is actually a good Pokemon for a flier, but again outside of HM utility you get very little out of it. Charizard si quad-weak to rock which in Gen 1 is also an issue (especially in PvP where Rhyhorn and Golem are top tier) and can't learn Fly. I'd have gone Articuno personally despite the mediocre type coverage because of how devastating FZN was in Gen 1.

When I did my yellow run, I had pikachu, nidoking, charizard, venusaur, snorlax and blastoise. I thought it was a solid team, until I accidentally came across a staryu as I approached cinnabar island. I switched the staryu with blastoise and evolved it into starmie, and starmie was the total mvp during my battles against elite four and blue. 10/10 recommend starmie.
Yeah Starmie in reality is on of the best water types in gen 1 (Blastoise is actually disgustingly pathetically bad)
The Pokémon Yellow Pikachu does not have increased stats or any sort of power up, the only difference is that it received a moveset reshuffling, which is useless. Eevee is still available in Yellow at the exact same location, and Jolteon is the best electric type in Kanto, getting Thunderbolt through the TM received from Surge ((Lapras can serve perfectly well without it)) and outclassing Pikachu in basically every single stat. Use Pikachu until Celadon and then get ready to toss it in the trash and replace it.

Yeah,he even said that Hitmonlee wasn’t even needed since Pikachu had a fighting type move,so i don’t know why he didn’t replace him with Venesaur because there wasn’t any other grass poison types.
Although I’m currently experimenting with this team, the last time I played Yellow, I used Red’s team from Generation Four. No Espeon available at the time, after all. I thought it worked out okay.

lapras is pretty cool. Ill give you that. and nice and bulky. but you get it relatively late (af Saffron. halfway through silph co/team rocket). And then it's level 15.. By that time you could have also trained the squirtle from officer Jenny or the magikarp at the pokecentre at mt moon (to level 20 at least) ....
also if you pick up bellsprout at cerulean and train it. you have an edge against Misty with a grass type. and you can also make use of the OP stun spore/ wrap combo. which comes in pretty early. It's an easy to get pokemon (just above the nugget bridge) and grass doesnt get a lot of damage from electric (the next gym typing) either.
I think bellsprout is pretty underrated in gen 1

@@andrewnixon5657 if I had to guess I would say that it's because it was developed after R&B were already a success and they had a sequel on the pipeline so they just added that detail to incentivice trading.
I checked the gamefiles myself and the starter pikachu stats in yellow are the same as any pikachu from gen 1, and friendship only makes him do a different face(that and a more hidden mood stat).
I would agree that the starter pikachu is somewhat different from the other ones(in the sense that he alone possesses the friendship, mood and lightball) but that's about it

Pokémon Yellow’s pikachu and the Partner Pikachu (which is slightly smaller apparently) can both learn pay day. Partner Eevee in Let’s go Eevee can also learn payday.
I used three of these Pokemon on my Let's Go Pikachu team (even having the same moves for Lapras). The only difference is I used Ninoqueen for my ground type and Hitmonchan for my fighting type (as it get's more type coverage after gen 4).

For HG/SS my favourite starter is Totodile, however I would say Ethan’s can starter would be Cyndaquil since Totodile is better suited to Silver. Plus one of Silver’s name options is Kamon and I read somewhere that the name Kamon means or is associated with “Alligator.”
Red has 2 canon teams (DS games and Let’s Go games respectively) so he is pretty much covered.

Why not hyper beam instead of self destruct on Snorlax? I'm not a fan of moves that make the user faint.
Because once Snorlax is about to die, you can guarantee the other poke does too. It's not like you're going to use it at 100%.
But Snorlax is slow.

@Nick Cruz not bad, but there is a lack of coverage there. Typically try to utilize every member of a team to their fullest potential, which is why I stick with Surf, Ice Beam, Thunderbolt and Psychic. Lapras is only weak to grass, fighting and electric. With that moveset, the only "threat" is electric types.
Mmm I beg to differ on the frailty against Fighting types and the damage output of Psychic
Especially once natures are introduced. A good Modest Lapras will steamroll a good majority of mons, with or without high sp def. If I'm not mistaken, doesn't Thunderbolt paralyze as well? Also, Lapras are more special atk oriented than physical.
Granted, to each their own, because let's face it, not everyone will get the same results
@Nick Cruz ah, wasn't sure about the statistics for sp and phy atk. I guess I just always assumed it was more of a Specialist than raw damage from physical moves. Yeah, that 20% makes quite a difference. Though it is nice having a water type that can counter its own typing if need be.

Just out of curiosity, have you ever considered mentioning HM Slaves? There aren’t very many in R/B/Y, but there are a few decent ones. For instance, Charizard (only in Yellow 😭) gets Cut, Fly and Strength (plus Flamethrower or Fire Blast). Then you could use Starmie for Surf and Flash (along with Psychic and Recover). In Red and Blue, my go-to slaves are Dux the Farfetch’d (Cut and Fly, plus two other moves of your choice) and Slowbro (Surf, Strength, and Flash, plus Psychic).
Why am I bringing this up? Because I’d like to see a team that actually incorporates HM Slaves as part of the main game. Sure, they may not be that great against most opponents, but that’s what the other four members are mostly for. Obviously, the Sun and Moon series are out, since there aren’t ANY HM’s, but what about the other generations? Who are your choice HM Slaves in each series?
Weirdly if you play with only Pokemon Ash caught in the anime (and their evolutions) you'd have a pretty good team. Pikachu, Bulbasaur (Venusaur), Squirtle (Blastoise), Charizard, Snorlax, I'd use Butterfree for catching Pokemon and then switch over to Haunter (Gengar) in Lavender Town or Tauros after the Safari Zone

This team right here will do significantly better. Only thing you might wanna do is add in an Ice type like Cloyster or Lapris somewhere. Gen 1 water types are so good that most good teams will have 2 or more of them. (Anything but Blastoise)
And everything can be found before the 4th Gem leader and you obtain things that are useful when you get them (like Primeape for Brock)
This team is really good and im gonna try it myself for a playthrough. The only 2 differences i personally would make is to have Hitmonlee learn mega kick instead of double edge. That would free up that TM for pikachu to have a higher damage move. Body Slam is great for paralysis but if pikachu already has thunderwave why not swoop out double edge. Actually forget Hitmonlee knowing mega kick, teach it body slam for the paralysis if it can lol. But overall great team and amazing video as always! :D

What about Jolteon? Why not use pikachu temporarily then replace it with a Jolteon. Not only is it better stats-wise but it gets two good coverage moves: Double Kick and Pin Missile.
Also instead of Dugtrio shouldn't you use Nidoking? Dugtrio is faster but Nidoking has better stats overall and gets moves such as Earthquake , Rock Slide , Thrash and decent coverage like fire blast , Ice Beam , Thunderbolt and even Bubble Beam

Oh I had trouble with dodrio it was not good enough as Charizard for me
If there’s something I learned from using this team in Pokémon Stadium (minus the fact that I don’t have Hyper Beam on Dodrio since I am not up to gambling in Pokémon), it’s the value of coverage moves. Lapras with Thunderbolt was invaluable against Misty in the Gym Leader Castle, as it was far more durable than Pikachu while also being able to hit hard.
Which reminds me, you could do videos on how well your best teams do in the Pokémon Stadium games! Kanto teams for Stadium 1 and 2, Johto for 2, Gen III best teams for Colosseum and XD postgames (since trading in those games isn’t available until then), and Gen IV teams in Battle Revolution.

How is Yellow Pikachu powered up? I don't think it has higher base stats like Let's Go pikachu does... the moveset is different, but if you trade in another pikachu from RB, that pikachu will have the same moveset as Yellow pikachu. The problem I have with these videos is that just because a Pokémon had a super affective attack, doesn’t mean it does well against that Pokémon. You say dugtrio does well against cloyster. That is insane. Cloyster easily shrugs off a rock slide due to its high defense and the lack of stab from the rock slide and can easily dispatch dugtrio.
Best Defense in all of Gen I no less.

That's the team i used I think the starters are real Beasts and Pikachu can be replaced by Zapdos afterwards as Zapdos can be a electric type and a Flyer and due to it being a flyer we don't need to use Dodrio and one slot will be free for some more Pokemons.

My yellow team consisted of:
1. Pikachu

3. Gengar (later switched out for alakazam/mewtwo)
4. Gyarados
5. Snorlax
6. Golem (Later switched out for Fearow)
It's a pretty insane team honestly. I still use gengar for the fighting types, since they and normal types can't even get a hit in most the time. But if im going raw power, i switch to alakazam. His coverage is very helpful too.

Can’t you get a free machamp in yellow as an in-game trade? Why not use that instead of hitmonlee? Granted, the movepool isn’t that good for machamp, but I think the stats are generally better for champ than lee. Also you get machamp right after the second gym, I think.
I always use Dodrio against Agatha. It’s as fast as the ghosts and Drill Peck absolutely wrecks their weak physical defense. Plus, no risk of paralysis from Lick or damage from night shade.
Ok... No... first off Yes you do get hit by Night shade despite being a normal type, second off Dodrio is not as fast as the ghosts but thx to stat exspearnce it really doesn't matter and just about everything on your team will always outspeed every opponent.

I was surprised you decided not to use the in-game trades Machamp and Rhydon. At first. Then I did some comparisons, and decided that Dugtrio and Hitmonlee were probably better choices. Besides, I imagine you took some flak for using Jynx in the remastered Red/Blue video.
On a side note, in order to keep Pikachu both alive and happy, I ended up giving “him” every vitamin I found during the quest. It was necessary.

Loyalty Cat gen 3 is probably the most played emulated generation, lots of people play it. and there is no pokemon on the switch so far except for let’s go so no real reason to remake that

Get rid of focus energy for literally anything else. Focus Energy is broken in gen 1 and actually lowers your crit chance.

May I request Colosseum, XD, and maybe Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald remastered. I mean, for RSE you had a Pokémon with Hidden Power and a physical attacker with mostly Special Moves.
I mean hitmolee as filler is solid but why not hitmonchan since it can do the samething but also has coverage? Does lee have better stats?
Hitmonlee is better than Hitmonchan because although Hitmonchan does have better coverage is would be coming off of its pitiful special stat.
Hitmonchans special stat is absolutely garbage, 35, it’s not even worth it

Why didn’t you guys put Machamp on the list? You can actually obtain one if you give a trainer in the underground tunnel a Cubone, you’ll get a Machoke in return which will immediately evolve into Machamp. It has the second highest base attack in the game, so it can easily replace Hitmonlee’s place on the list.
The only thing I would personally change is replacing Pikachu with Jolteon if we are going for best teams I know one of your rules is using the starter but you can't even evolve Pikachu in Yellow so don't mind if I throw it into the box
I feel like your not giving primeape enough credit. In gen 1 it has an insane crit chance with karate chop because of its speed. It’s like a gen 1 infernape minus fire.
I like Primeape a lot in Generation 1 but Karate Chop doesn't help that much : in Gen 1 it's normal type (no STAB) with only 50 power (100 on a crit). Still, a 100 power non STAB move is not that bad at all (but far from a Persian's 70->140 BP Slash with STAB), and it's not necessary to replace it with Body Slam. My Primeape also knew Submission, Dig and Rock Slide, but for most weak enemies Karate Chop was all I needed.
Hitmonlee is probably better for Fighting type attacks due to High Jump Kick, but they barely get anything for coverage.

Well, there is a trick in gen 1 where if a pokemon is behind a substitute and uses hi jump kick/jump kick and misses, the crash recoil is ignored. This make hitmonlee inevitable.
