Wow! Amazing Photography Steve, while I was watching this video at 3am, 'I was born under a wondering star' came on the radio. Now it's time for bed. Good night Steve xxx
Lovely pictures as always, love the pano too! I also caught the same aurora over Avebury henge that night, could see the pillars by eye too. Nice and quiet then when no one else was aurora chasing 🤣
Lovely to catch the aurora, and lovely photos. I've been lucky enough to see them three times. On both Astronomy 'Aurora' holidays to Iceland I've been lucky enough to go on and once at home in Cheshire in the UK. The Cheshire sighting was a complete suprise. Had just got home from an evening with friends and I noticed them as we got out of the car. I phoned said friend to say we could see the northern lights and they asked what direction do we look in! She was at the time a Primary school teacher!!! 😂
Seems like a life time ago, but when I lived in Larkhill up the road in the 70's us kids would stroll down to Stonehenge this time of year and watch all the hippies smoking stuff, topless lasses walking about and chilling in their Teepees and playing guitars etc. back then, we could walk on the stones as they were'nt cordoned off.
@@tuvaaq I joined reme when I was old enough and also did some stints on the plain (attached to 1RHA). I never forgot how hard it is to dig a slit trent in all that chalk lol.
@@kattysat lol yeah not fun, especially in full NBC, although I only did it the once. Not sure which was worse back in the 90's, July on the Plain or November on Otterburn
Fantastic Stephen, well done seeing those beautiful aurora skies, ive forwarded to my granddaughter, she'll love it,thanks love it see you sunday 😊,shes just said gorgeous 😂
It's been longer than 10 years since they closed it off hasn't it? I drove there from Cornwall in 2001 and there was a huge chain-link fence restricting access and wasn't allowed on site because they were due to close in an hour.
Yes, it's been access restricted for years. I first went to visit Stonehenge in 1990 and it was closed off then. When I say closed off I mean not allowed to go between the stones. They have only recently opened them up for the Solstices. You can pay extra for a giuded tour inside the stones at certain times!
@@ange5673 Special dispensation for the druids on religious grounds? I'm an ordained minister of the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, might ask for the same access on September 4th - Rock Appreciation Day...
@tuvaaq No everyone is allowed in. In fact, it is so crowded I can't understand why folks want to go and hate to be picky, but Druidry is not a religion.
@@ange5673 aye, the free open access for the solstices were introduced after the druids went to the court of human rights on religous freedom and won, if we leave the ECHR imagine that will soon change...
@tuvaaq They may have used that to get the court response they wanted, but druidry is a person's individual spiritual growth and does not have the dogma of an organised religion. You can be a Christian and also a druid, a Muslim and a druid, a Hindu and a druid etc. The word druid comes from the Irish-Gaelic word for oak tree which means knowledge.
How our society has changed from when the Stones could be enjoyed up close and personal. I was expecting a security guard to shout at Stephen, What are you doing?! NOT ALLOWED! Still prefer the Beatles, though.

It's a great time at the moment because the solar activity is on the rise.
@starman1969 Yes, I don't think many people know that the sun has 11 year cycles.
