You are right, Lara doesn’t just sing she performs, transmitting every emotion of the song. She is the best singer of that type of music I have ever heard. I have listened to this particular live recording of this song hundreds of times, and it still gets to me everytime. The first time I heard it there were no subtitles and I don't speak any French, but I "felt" what she was singing about, and I was moved to do what you did ... applaud the video playing on my laptop out of shear admiration for the most moving performance I had ever heard.
Eve, believe it or not but I think, because of these you tube video's, she is more recognized now than 20 years ago. Crazy! But, there is no denying she is a wonderful singer and writer. She didn't write this song but many others and all of them are beautiful songs. The video got a little chopped up at the end but for any new listeners to Lara, they got the message. She's great!

I loved the woman in her 30 year with her intensity and her vocal performances. I loved the 40 year old with her willingness to discover many different musical styles, always with a fabulous voice. And I love the woman in her 50s who has managed to preserve her voice through hard work, adapting to the evolution of her voice while retaining that little bit of enthusiasm and complicity that makes us melt. I actually was at that particular performance that night in 1999. The majority of spectators, including myself, ad mixed emotions. It was amazing. I will never forget that moment for the rest of my life. It's been 22 years ago and I still remember every minute of that performance.
