“Je suis Malade” was written by famous French singer & songwriter Serge Lama together with composer/singer Alice Dona in 1973. This is based on his own experience and he was the original performer, hence some lyrics are a bit male-oriented (eg my mother leaves me, whiskies, I pour my blood in your body, …). When Serge Lama had a dinner with Alice Dona and told her about his obsessive love that was leading to a road block, she came back home and compose the music in a couple of hours. The morning after, she presented him the music and he wrote the lyrics in … 20 minutes. Serge Lama was the original performer in 1973, but a few months after, Dalida covered it and brought it to fame. She was an absolute mega star in France, another emotional powerhouse, and this song resonated very much with her own feelings. Her success with this song transformed it into a french classic, and started to make it famous abroad. But it is Lara Fabian that really made this song a very popular song in many countries with her cover in the mid 90s. At that time Dalida had already passed away, but Serge Lama was (and is) still alive. Dalida and Serge were two inspirations for Lara, so she sent an audio copy to Serge of her version. She was unknown at that time in France but he was so impressed with her vocal skills and her emotions rendering that he invited her in France to sing it as a duet. They became good friends. Lara has made some subtle changes to the song that gave it even more power and Serge Lama adopted these in his later interpretations. This 1999 version ("From Lara with Love" Concert in Montreal) is legendary internationally and has attracted many artists to do a cover, even from non french-speaking countries. Si vous regardez le début de leur réaction, ils disent "Dimash's vibes" (sic !!!), comme si Dimash était le mentor de Lara et non l'inverse ! Quant à la réaction en elle-même, je pense que c'est le gars qui a été visiblement un peu plus impacté que la fille car, par moment, elle rit ou sourit. Je ne veux pas discréditer ces braves personnes mais quand on reste aussi stoïques devant une telle interprétation, je ne sais trop quoi penser... Une chose est sûre, et j'en suis désolé pour eux, je n'ai pas mis de pouce à l'instar de deux ou trois autres réactions qui m'ont laissé pantois. Heureusement, ce genre de réactions fait partie d'une infime minorité.

Female version of Dimash? She’s HIS idol. He literally gets everything he does from her 😉 This was from her concert, back in the early to mid 90s. From her breath control to going from head voice to chest, where she speaks, everything g is felt and has intention. She’s absolutely magnificent and only second to Whitney as a singer. Every single Lara Fabian performance is this kind of emotion where u can't just get away from FEELING the emotion of the song, she existe in every song she sings, u can see how hard it is for her to get out of the character at the end of each song she performs, and that explains why she's such a powerful singer... Hi. Lara's native languages are Italian and French. She speaks both since she was 3 years old. Then she learned English and Spanish when she was 10 years old. Currently she is able to speak and compose songs in Italian, French, English, Spanish fluently. But she is also able to have a little conversation in Russian, Portuguese (she evn co-wrote a song in Portuguese with perfect accent, as a Brazilian I can say, the song it's called "Meu Grande Amor", which means My greatest love), and Flemish (Flemish is the native language of her father, she was born in the Flemish part of Belgium country, her daddy if from there. But she was raised in Italy till her 5/6 years old. From 8 to 18 years old she attended the Brussels Royal Music Conservatory in Belgium. She learned how to sing, play piano, guitar, write and read music core, her teachers were Master in bel canto and opera, but she decided to focus in the pop style, even though she is able to sing in operatic style, and she uses her bel canto skills in her pop songs, with her perfect breath control and pasagios. I am not sure from which Wiki you've got this information, and I don't want to destroy your dreams by going through all of your reply, but first of all... "Caruso" is not her song, and without a doubt I dare to say that Luciano's cover of this song is simply the best. Which makes sense since the Pavarotti is considered the greatest voice ever, but mainly because there is not as much recordings from Caruso himself available. Also calling Lara the greatest vocalist ever is a bit rich. Sure, she is of another planet with her voice and performances, but I could easily name 10 others, worldwide, with such extreme performances and probably from the same planet. Some of them way younger than Lara herself started to become legend. I was lucky enough to get one of the first cd's from Lara back in the days when I worked for Sony (and no, I have nothing to do with a dispute) and even than she was just as amazing as Charlotte Church and Celine Dion in that time. @@fredschepers5149 regarding Caruso, I never said this is her song and always credited Lucio Dalla for this masterpiece. There are different taste on earth, different ears as well, but I am not the only one who largely prefers the rendition of Lara to Luciano’s. This is more a question of artistic choice and emotion conveying than a question of voice, nobody would dare to argue against the fantastic voice of Luciano. I have even read comments of some Luciano fans who have attended live a Caruso rendition from him and prefer the version of Lara. For us, she describes better the final days of a dying man talking to his younger wife, while Luciano is more triumphant and showcasing the vocal power of Caruso. But you are perfectly entitled to think otherwise here. I said: FOR ME, she is the best. Again it’s a question of taste. So far I never found a voice that carry so much emotion to me. The closest would be Eva Cassidy or Slimane for the men (a new french artist) but Lara is still my favorite. If you consider in addition her songwriting skills in several languages and emotions conveying skills on stage, her humility, benevolence and empathy, she is unique in what she offers IMHO. This is all personal, I will not debate against somebody who has different preferences, but I know there are many around the world that feel and think the same way. For me, with Lara you always get heart and soul besides this phantastic voice range - when listening to Dimash I hear a super great voice but it never really touches me, feels like show to his songs. But everyone feels music differently, that's completely fine. Unfortunately way too many stops, like that impossible to really catch the mood.

Since you mentioned the artistic commonalities with Dimash, I will mention that Lara Fabian was/is his musical idol. You might want to react to Dimash singing Qaragym ai 2020 (In a dark suit as there are two videos with the same name). It in an elogy for his professor of composition and mentor who died of COVID19. It's absolutely beautiful and absolutely gripping.

But you are just now discovering that there is a world beyond America, so it is normal that you have not heard not only of Lara but also of many other European artists. “Je suis Malade” was written by famous French singer & songwriter Serge Lama together with composer/singer Alice Dona in 1973.
This is based on his own experience and he was the original performer, hence some lyrics are a bit male-oriented (eg my mother leaves me, whiskies, I pour my blood in your body, …).
When Serge Lama had a dinner with Alice Dona and told her about his obsessive love that was leading to a road block, she came back home and compose the music in a couple of hours.
The morning after, she presented him the music and he wrote the lyrics in … 20 minutes.
Serge Lama was the original performer in 1973, but a few months after, Dalida covered it and brought it to fame. She was an absolute mega star in France, another emotional powerhouse, and this song resonated very much with her own feelings. Her success with this song transformed it into a french classic, and started to make it famous abroad.
But it is Lara Fabian that really made this song a very popular song in many countries with her cover in the mid 90s.
At that time Dalida had already passed away, but Serge Lama was (and is) still alive. Dalida and Serge were two inspirations for Lara, so she sent an audio copy to Serge of her version. She was unknown at that time in France but he was so impressed with her vocal skills and her emotions rendering that he invited her in France to sing it as a duet. They became good friends.
Lara has made some subtle changes to the song that gave it even more power and Serge Lama adopted these in his later interpretations.
This 1999 version ("From Lara with Love" Concert in Montreal) is legendary internationally and has attracted many artists to do a cover, even from non french-speaking countries.
The most recent one I am aware of is from the Korean band Forestella.

Hi. Lara's native languages are Italian and French. She speaks both since she was 3 years old. Then she learned English and Spanish when she was 10 years old. Currently she is able to speak and compose songs in Italian, French, English, Spanish fluently. But she is also able to have a little conversation in Russian, Portuguese (she evn co-wrote a song in Portuguese with perfect accent, as a Brazilian I can say, the song it's called "Meu Grande Amor", which means My greatest love), and Flemish (Flemish is the native language of her father, she was born in the Flemish part of Belgium country, her daddy if from there. But she was raised in Italy till her 5/6 years old. From 8 to 18 years old she attended the Brussels Royal Music Conservatory in Belgium. She learned how to sing, play piano, guitar, write and read music core, her teachers were Master in bel canto and opera, but she decided to focus in the pop style, even though she is able to sing in operatic style, and she uses her bel canto skills in her pop songs, with her perfect breath control and pasagios. She is able to hold C5 and D5 in chest voice for over 20 seconds, without strain the larynx. Vídeo bellow shows she singing in 12 languages.

I am not sure from which Wiki you've got this information, and I don't want to destroy your dreams by going through all of your reply, but first of all... "Caruso" is not her song, and without a doubt I dare to say that Luciano's cover of this song is simply the best. Which makes sense since the Pavarotti is considered the greatest voice ever, but mainly because there is not as much recordings from Caruso himself available.
Also calling Lara the greatest vocalist ever is a bit rich. Sure, she is of another planet with her voice and performances, but I could easily name 10 others, worldwide, with such extreme performances and probably from the same planet.
Some of them way younger than Lara herself started to become legend. I was lucky enough to get one of the first cd's from Lara back in the days when I worked for Sony (and no, I have nothing to do with a dispute) and even than she was just as amazing as Charlotte Church and Celine Dion in that time.
Sorry if I was a bit rude, but I hope this give some more context on Lara....

There are different taste on earth, different ears as well, but I am not the only one who largely prefers the rendition of Lara to Luciano’s. This is more a question of artistic choice and emotion conveying than a question of voice, nobody would dare to argue against the fantastic voice of Luciano.
I have even read comments of some Luciano fans who have attended live a Caruso rendition from him and prefer the version of Lara. For us, she describes better the final days of a dying man talking to his younger wife, while Luciano is more triumphant and showcasing the vocal power of Caruso.
But you are perfectly entitled to think otherwise here.
I said: FOR ME, she is the best. Again it’s a question of taste.
So far I never found a voice that carry so much emotion to me. The closest would be Eva Cassidy or Slimane for the men (a new french artist) but Lara is still my favorite.
If you consider in addition her songwriting skills in several languages and emotions conveying skills on stage, her humility, benevolence and empathy, she is unique in what she offers IMHO.
This is all personal, I will not debate against somebody who has different preferences, but I know there are many around the world that feel and think the same way.
But I appreciate the time you took to detail your views and I respect these, I hope you will do the same.

For me, with Lara you always get heart and soul besides this phantastic voice range - when listening to Dimash I hear a super great voice but it never really touches me, feels like show to his songs. But everyone feels music differently, that's completely fine.
Unfortunately way too many stops, like that impossible to really catch the mood.

But you are just now discovering that there is a world beyond America, so it is normal that you have not heard not only of Lara but also of many other European artists. Lara speaks 4 languages fluently, English, French, Italian and Spanish and sings in 11, something unimaginable for Americans, who with few exceptions only speak English.
