On World Mental Health Day, member company Elected Safety Rep Joel Devine shares his story about how a series of life events overwhelmed him and how this impacted his own mental health.
As someone who maintains good mental health today, Joel talks about how his experience taught him that this can happen to anyone and the importance of how we normalise speaking about how we are feeling and that we take the time to check on others.

I hugely admire and respect your opening up and sharing your experience, I think you're extremely brave to do so.
Most of us don't open up, its like we're afraid to do so, so we keep it all locked down, where it eats awsy at us like the corrosive element that it is.
The lucky ones manage to operate with their heads just above the water, and despite suffering, they remain alive.
They don't want to destroy themselves, but they are still at risk as they're still suppressing everything.
I hope people are able to talk, it can make such a difference, like you couldn't have imagined.

Well Joel, I certainly wouldn't have known what you were going through when we worked together, Like you say If only someone, anyone would have asked that to Carlo maybe just maybe things could have turned out differently, It came as a massive shock for all of us the Alba, Glad your ok Bud and doing as well as can be expected, UTB
