Definitely delicious! 😋 My first car was a 1979 Mk1 Golf (Rabbit here) entirely red: the paint, the seats, headliner, dash, even the steering wheel. Much of it had faded to a milky pink though.
Lucky you!! I remember I had a very base model Popular 950, X reg bought new from a main dealer! So basic it had grey vinyl seats, rubber floor, no carpet at all, no passenger wing mirror, no heated rear screen, no rear wiper, and to get water to the front screen I had to pump a button down on the floor next to the clutch! Oh, and no passenger visor or parcel shelf! But I loved it in Dove Grey. Really looking forward to your journey with your find!
Wow this takes me back! I had 2 x 1.1L, my first was a V reg very much like the one you have, but it was blue inside and out, then my Y reg one was two tone colour with a beige interior, with a radio and a clock even headrests! Happy days 😎
Great purchase. Watching this video transports me back to the mid to late 80s and going in the back of my grandmother’s T reg Fiesta 1.1L. Hers was harvest gold (at least that’s what she called it) and immaculate. No seat belts in the back, and hers had black and white hounds tooth seats. I think the L only had a driver’s side door mirror. Sadly she traded it in for a 1988 Volvo 340 DL in 1992 after she was in a crash in my grandfather’s H reg 340 and the police told them they’d not have survived it in the Fiesta. I did have a day off school to go with her to the Volvo garage to choose the 340 at least. Different times! She was always very sad to see the Fiesta go, and I wish I could remember it’s full number plate, as I’m sure it would have survived a good while. BBH ???T RIP! It would be nice to think all those spares came from her old car! Good luck with the restoration.
Great! My dad had a 1983 957cc Popular, last of the line before the Mk2 came out with a few extras thrown in such as rear wash wipe. He had it from 1992-97 and there will still plenty around back then. I drove it for a few months after passing my test in 96 and lots of people had them as a first car at that time. Then, suddenly, they all pretty much disappeared almost overnight.
I did quite a lot of miles in a W reg white 1.1L between 1983 and '85. It was used for documents and consular jobs at a courier firm I was working for. It was surprisingly quick and good for an indicated ton (on private test tracks)!
I had my first driving lesson in a Mk1 Fiesta 1.1L. I also owned a Mk1 Fiesta back in the 90’s, which I bought as a second car. The black paint on the top of the sill inside the door shut is something the previous owner has done. On the Fiesta I owned it was body colour above the top edge of the sill. Look forward to seeing the restoration. They were basic but fun cars to drive.
Always loved the mk1 fiesta. Had the brochures when I went visiting car shows in the early 80s. My best friend at the times mum had a gold/brown one and i had regular trips to school in it. Remember the dashboard! That's a great example of one. Epic seat colour. Shame about those dreadful mirrors though 😂
I've had the brochures for years, and coveted them for the last decade or so. I wish I could have kept my grandmother's one: I hated it at the time but would love it now!
Wow that’s incredible Sion don’t see many of those anymore! Looks a great base for a project too, My cousin had a Mk1 Bravo when I was growing up it was burgundy over silver with the same wheels as yours just with chrome embellishers on them
I replaced the radiator on my mum’s Caribbean Blue 1982 Fiesta Popular Plus for about £30 when I was a sixth form college in 1990. Brings back memories…
Siôn it's lovely. So pleased it's with you....couldn't be a better home. Looking forward to future videos. Perhaps we should do a mk1/mk2 comparison video! I'd love to do a nerdy video on the differences between the two 😊
Wow I can’t believe how nice a condition that car is in how lovely I’d have bought it to it’ll be absolutely gorgeous when it’s cleaned up and some love put back into it what a cracking find 👍
My first car 1.1L had a Dell'Orto replacement carb fitted, my mechanic neighbour told me that the original carbs weren't much good. It would cut out in very cold weather as the carb sat higher than the original (the fuel got too thick in the cold). The points always needed attention as they would work loose. I became an expert in heel and toeing to keep the revs up while slowing down. Yours looks lovely, I am so envious, I hope you enjoy owning it. Mine was called Juan because they were built in Spain.
I’m excited to see how this one drives. I’m going to overhaul the carb and ignition system so hopefully it will be reliable. Mine was also built in Spain, but I haven’t thought of a name yet
My parents had one of these back in the 80's, it had an odd quirk where if you pulled the choke out fully it would stay fully on even when the choke had been pushed back in and the car would die after a couple of minutes. It actually saved the car from being stolen once as the thieves abandoned the car in the next street when it ground to a halt.
Great video Sion and a great find that certainly takes me back they were everywhere and everyone knew someone with one or rode in one, in my case it was my school secretary who had a popular plus in silver and my auntie who had a red 1.1L! So lovely to see a survivor and they look tiny even next to your mk3! Look forward to seeing this one come back to life!
The black at the rocker panels is a repair. The upper side has to be white. I had the same with brown-blue interior and further options such as central console with clock and radio, headrests and bumper overriders
Love the new Fiesta! That is solid and look forward seeing it cleaned up and made road ready once again. Always enjoy your videos and your cars and travels. Keep it up and I'll keep enjoying here in Idaho.
I bought one in the 90`s for £120, it needed a clutch, towed it home, replaced the clutch, didn`t put the driveshafts in, started the car, stopped the car, looked at the gearbox, cleaned the mess and gearbox oil up from the floor, then went off to the scrap yard for a new Gearbox which wasn`t expensive.👍
I’m so excited to see your latest purchase. My first car was a Mk1 82/Y Fiesta 950cc Pop Plus in 1998. It was woefully slow and being a 17 year old I gave that thing abuse, but it never wanted to die 😂. Look forward to future updates on this one, hope those mirrors disappear very quickly 🤣.
Oooohhhh a Mk1 Fiesta. They're so rare now, great find and great interior too! I have never driven a 1970s nor 1980s Fiesta but the first car I drove when I had my driving licence was a Mk3 Escort 1.1L with the same engine as in the Fiesta. Was quite noisy 😅
I had a Fiesta 1.1L on a V plate for my work at the time. It was a low mileage 3 year old car and was terrific to drive. I don't think the mark 2 was as comfortable in my humble opinion. The 1.1L would do over 90 mph too.
Superb find & remarkable condition, considering not German built or ziebarted, posh 1.1L as well. Mk1’s were more solid than mk2’s by the 1990’s. Great price to allow sorting it out mechanically & tidying the bodywork. I am sure those black painted door sills are not original. Excellent addition to your 1980s supermini collection & I look forward to the resto
I love your love for small simple cars! This Fiesta looks fantastic! especially with the Halfords stuff (except for the mirrors, they're an abomination).
It has a 2 speed fan, you need to push it down again for the second speed, and the dash side vents were standard on all models, the rear quater cards have the holes in for factory speakers, and cigarette lighter was an option on L models,
Blimey, that has so much potential. A future FotU entry perhaps? I wouldn't be able to keep my hands off cleaning it! 1.1L seems a bit decadent for you though. ;) Mala Engineering are still at that location in North London. Surprisingly, when I looked on streetview, there is a White Fiesta Mk.4 parked outside in 2008. No Mk.1 though. Kinda glad, that would have been a bit too weird!
My uncle had a Cosmos Blue 950 L in the mid 80's. I used to love help him tinker with it. I feel that if it is to maintain its original spec. like the Metro, it would only be receiving a single door mirror.
I would agree, but as there are holes in the passenger door already to take a mirror, I think it will be neater to cover them with a correct passenger mirror (an optional extra)
I love that in the vehicle history someone has made a typo and added an extra digit at its 2010 MOT and thinks it’s done 653000 😂 then flags the following year for abnormal mileage. Should be 65302 but was marked as 653302
Looks lovely, congrats on your purchase. That bit of insulation in the boot looks like the piece that goes underneath the dash, just behind the steering wheel, they always seem to come away. The upper part of the rocker panels would have originally been white. £3100 if there's nothing fundamentally wrong is fair I'd say :)
I love ford my mom had the same car during the 80s but after todays version's of cars you can see the lack of design and engineering skills in mid 80s cars. I mean direct from the manufacturer it's almost like some of the interior was just cobbled together with what wmever stock was available
Now of course cars back then rusted a lot (even cars now depending where you live rust too). Though I'm thinking this may have been stored in a garage for majority of it's life. With the remarkable pretty much rust free on the car.
Yes I think you must be right. I think London cars tend to last very well though: not used as much as cars elsewhere I think. I’ve owned a few ex-London cars
These were great. Honest, simple and fun to drive.
Definitely delicious! 😋 My first car was a 1979 Mk1 Golf (Rabbit here) entirely red: the paint, the seats, headliner, dash, even the steering wheel. Much of it had faded to a milky pink though.
Oh wow! Love the sound of that. Whatever happened to fun interiors in ordinary cars?
What a little gem, you do a lot to save these classics and I'm not even a Ford fan, thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it
Looking forward to updates on this , I currently have a 1981 mk1 fiesta 950 pop 👍
Oooh a Pop is what I really wanted. But the L is what happened 😊
What a nice tidy looking fiesta, it’s a shame you had a problem with the seller. Can’t wait to see more on this!
Wow this takes me back! I had 2 x 1.1L, my first was a V reg very much like the one you have, but it was blue inside and out, then my Y reg one was two tone colour with a beige interior, with a radio and a clock even headrests! Happy days 😎

Yeah, you're right, apart from a few elderly-owned oddities that soldiered on for a bit longer.
I did quite a lot of miles in a W reg white 1.1L between 1983 and '85. It was used for documents and consular jobs at a courier firm I was working for. It was surprisingly quick and good for an indicated ton (on private test tracks)!

Thank you, that’s really helpful. I will get the sills painted up soon hopefully!

Can't wait for some progress, awesome example, very honest!
Thanks!
Remarkably solid for the age, aside from the questionable mirrors it’s a beauty. I’d have bought it for the interior alone, a sea of red nylon 😂
Totally agree, that was the main selling point for me!
Lovely little car, especially the orangey red interior, so period. Those water bottles are possibly indicative of an overheating issue.
Yes, the radiator has a leak so it's been topped up a lot
My parents had one of these back in the 80's, it had an odd quirk where if you pulled the choke out fully it would stay fully on even when the choke had been pushed back in and the car would die after a couple of minutes. Hahaha old cars and their quirks!
Awesome wee car and the interior is absolutely nuts, but in a nice way, I think you hit gold with that one, health to enjoy it. 😊
Nice project, Siôn!
The black at the rocker panels is a repair. The upper side has to be white. I had the same with brown-blue interior and further options such as central console with clock and radio, headrests and bumper overriders
Thanks, I think I will return the upper rocker panels to white
Looks fantastic, Sion! The severe lack of base is slightly disconcerting but the sheer RED more than makes up for it!
That is EXACTLY what I thought! 😀
Love the new Fiesta! That is solid and look forward seeing it cleaned up and made road ready once again. Always enjoy your videos and your cars and travels. Keep it up and I'll keep enjoying here in Idaho.
Love the Fiesta, but oh my those mirrors. 👎 Really looking forward to the restoration of this now rare car.

Whoops!!

I have already purchased a correct driver's mirror. Just waiting to find a passenger one!
Yes I am expecting this to be pretty noisy too!
great find.
I loved my 1100cc fiesta mk1,it cornered on rails as was very fast 😮,cruise on the motorway at 70mph all day 👍
Nice 👍I can’t wait to get mine on the road!
I had a y reg 950 pop plus. Think the plus was the addition of a parcel shelf.
I had a Fiesta 1.1L on a V plate for my work at the time. It was a low mileage 3 year old car and was terrific to drive. I don't think the mark 2 was as comfortable in my humble opinion. The 1.1L would do over 90 mph too.
You've got a new subscriber! Love the Fiesta ❤
Thank you!
I have a new set of chrome bumpers. It’s probably aftermarket but never used. Unfortunately they are in Denmark.
Do t know why you thought the car had no coolant, that was the washer bottle you were looking in. Expansion tanks are usually near the radiator!
Superb find & remarkable condition, considering not German built or ziebarted, posh 1.1L as well. Mk1’s were more solid than mk2’s by the 1990’s. Thanks, me too!
I love your love for small simple cars! This Fiesta looks fantastic! especially with the Halfords stuff (except for the mirrors, they're an abomination).
Thank you! Not sure why basic 80s cars are what appeal to me, but there we are 😝
@@MorselsAndMotors Oh, I understand the appeal. Would have one myself if I had room for more than one car

Thank you. I’ve now worked out the 2-speed fan. I will need to investigate behind the rear quarter grilles and see what speakers are there
Blimey, that has so much potential. A future FotU entry perhaps? I wouldn't be able to keep my hands off cleaning it! 1.1L seems a bit decadent for you though. ;)

@@MorselsAndMotors The original mirrors will not cover both holes of the ugly aftermarket once i think.
Looklike rover metro mirrors on the car 😂
Whatever they are, I shall take great pleasure in removing and destroying them!!
I love that in the vehicle history someone has made a typo and added an extra digit at its 2010 MOT and thinks it’s done 653000 😂 then flags the following year for abnormal mileage. Should be 65302 but was marked as 653302
Should be a 2-speed fan hence the two arrows on the switch.

Thank you for this: you’ll see I put the insulation back where it was supposed to be in episode 2, thanks to your comment 😊
Great car, should definitely be white inside the door shuts with the black just out the outer section of the sill.
Thanks for that. I will sort them soon hopefully!

He knew it wouldn't run that's why it took him 4 hours to get bk
What am arse of a guy you bought this from, how rude. Hope he’s seen this but glad it’s worked out
