Great little video . Can't believe how much better the car looks with the correct mirror. I didn't think the aftermarket petrol cap looked too bad until you put the proper one on . Then I learned the error of my ways 😂
It's a shame that the Yanks actually got a hinged metal flap, over the filler cap. Mind you, they also had to put up with big stupid looking, girder like bumpers that sat about 10 inches away from the body!
I always admire your problem solving skills. In the past, I worked on quite a few mk1 Fiestas. Everyone must know someone who has owned a mk1 Fiesta at some point in their lives. In the early 90s my great uncle had a beige W-reg one. I just wish modern cars were like this. Modern cars are so boring and souless.
Greetings from the USA! Love the car and you already are making great improvements. Look forward to the finished car. You are one handy worker and I wish I had you as a neighbor, as that would be nice and even better when doing projects on my cars. Thanks as always for your great videos!
Amazing how one little mirror can make such a difference to the look of the Fiesta. Glad those nasty ones are in the bin! Do enjoy a tinkering video with little changes that actually make a big difference. Great little car 😁
Well done Sion a great video as ever and the mk1 is starting to come back to life couldn’t believe the difference with correct mirrors the holes that’s old home mechanics for you! Will be a beauty when done and cannot remember seeing the red interior but complements the white paint well
Happy memories of my X reg mk1 fiesta popular, although your L version is much better equipped than mine was! Yes, I'd remove the very obvious square mirror tile from the visor lol!! Glad to see you've got your flaps moving after some lubing hehe! Great video, its gonna look stunning once the restoration is complete.
Nice work, always loved an early mk1 with chrome bumpers. That door mirror makes such a difference, finishes the L trim chrome off & great original number plates. Look forward to sorting the plumbing & the service & going for a blast up the road
I would love a mk1 or mk2 fiesta, I bought a mk1 Quartz special edition in the late 90s for £100.......shame they don't sell for that sort if price now!
Great work! I passed my driving test in the mid 1990s and these mark 1s could be bought for a few hundred quid at the time. Guy I was at 6th form with bought a red1983 Y reg 950cc model (Popular?) in red but several months later replaced it with a W reg resprayed metallic blue one that I think was 1100cc. Couldn't remember why he got shot of the newer one so quickly. I ended up buying a 1979 Mini 1000 in vermillion but I really wanted a mark 1 Polo or Chevette.
That piece of insulation - when me and my now Mrs were simply a couple I offered to fit new pedal rubbers on her MK2 one autumnal night. I may have had a beer and when I crouched down in the footwell I realised pulling the old one out was easy but affixing a replacement was not good in fading light. In those days I smoked so I lit my lighter for vision assistance.......how on earth I didn't destroy the car by fire that night I have no idea lol
What a minter, love your attention to detail, I'd do the same, I once owned a MK1 Fester 1.1L in a gold colour, V reg I think, swapped my Citroen Axel for it on a Little Chef car park near Preston (Dodgy) but I'm sorry to say that i regretted the swap because i found the Fiesta a little boring plus the fact that it didn't have a cooling fan sensor as standard and the cooling fan used to run constantly, I tried modifying it but it caused it to over heat unfortunately !
Wow you had a Citroen Axel!! I’ve heard conflicting things about the cooling fan on these. Mine doesn’t seem to run constantly and there is definitely a switch mounted to the thermostat housing. I’ll investigate when I get to the cooling system
Oh yes a G reg 1.2 trs in metallic brown (no photos) it was kind of a parts bin special with a GSA boxer engine, really enjoyed owning it but i regretfully gave up on it too easy and chickened out of doing repairs to it, gearbox bearings, suspension bushes and rust repairs, wish I'd of kept hold of it but I was young at the time, I recently come very close to buying Hubnut's Axel(s) but decided on a bright green C15E instead which I "almost" gave up on and put it up for sale but I've decided it's far too rare and unique to let go just because I'm a bit brassic atm !! With regards to the cooling fan on the fiesta there might be a change on a certain year were they fitted a fan switch but it certainly didn't work on my one back in the day 😊
Originally it would have come with 1 mirror. the passenger mirror was not obligatory. I think the GL came with Both mirrors. and a cigar lighter :-) i have the original brochure somewhere 🙂
Bits of rust around but nothing major, it looks like this car has quite a lot of potential! (Well, as much potential as a 1.1 L can have) I'm sure the old mirrors were practical but... urgh.

Haha so wrong!!

Loved the cheeky little Star Trek reference
😉
Can't wait to watch this one unfold. The holes drilled in the door... unforgivable! 🤦♂
They are just the worst!!! It’s going to cost a lot to get them professionally sorted out
The hose as a gasket was brilliant 👏
Hehe I like to be creative! Though I have now found a correct gasket which I will fit in due course
The Fiesta Mk 1 is gradually being transformed back to something like original, yay👍
Oh it will be entirely standard by the time I’m done with it 😊
Great job, that ‘new’ mirror has made all the difference. 👌
I think so too! It is starting to look like an actual mk1

Thank you! And yes, I think this is going to be one of those cars which will attract a lot of similar comments
Nice, looking forward to the next installment! 😁

Thanks! 👍
Just a few small touches can make a car look so much better! Keep up the good work Siôn
Thanks, will do!

Transformative isn’t it!
Great stuff! It's looking so much better already 😁

Yes the red interior is a rare option I think.

Yup, I can’t wait
Excellent stuff.
Came across your channel via Twitter - very interesting I have given a thumbs up and subscribed. Looking forward to the next video
Thank you 😊

If only…
Great work!

Great memories. I’m guessing the Popular would have been extremely basic, so the 1100 might have had a few more creature comforts for him

Eeek!
Door protectors that always left a line down the edge once removed.
I got trim tools after 30years 🤗
All the way from China €2
They save you breaking thing's 🙂
Haha I will ask for one for my birthday
Instant improvements! I've got an L but its a cortina not a fiesta! Cheers Mac in Stafford.
Ooh what generation Cortina?
@@MorselsAndMotors Its a MK3 in the bodyshop for paint at the mo. You can see it on my You Tube Channel.
@@TheMaccatakker69 oh it’s wonderful! All of the brown. How long have you had it?

Yes, you are absolutely right. Only higher up in the range did you ever get 2 mirrors

It’s really just a few very minor spots of rust, so I’m very pleased
