It’s effective.

I’ve been struggling with insomnia the past few weeks. My husband, who can be rather pushy, had me look up military techniques to falling asleep. I tried it last night and wah-lah! I slept through the night, with only one kitty-provoked wake up. But… I fell back to sleep. I got 8 hours total!
Last night I woke up a few times. Normally, I would turn the bedside light on and read or surf/scroll. But each time I felt myself waking up, I made a conscious effort to say in my mind… “Don’t think” and I fell back asleep by the 3rd or 4th time. It works.
Congrats! Great to hear! Im gonna try it now and i hope i do it right
"Wah-lah"
Made me laugh
It’s ‘voila’
Girl, get rid of that kitty during nighttime. its hard at the beginnig, but you both will get used to. Good sleep is worth it. Sleeping with Oropax and fresh air around your nose will help as well.
This is actually what I use when my mind is racing and I can’t sleep. It works wonderfully! Now to figure out how to stay asleep…
I'm always thinking about literally everything when I'm trying to sleep, which keeps me awake for a long time. So I might try this!
@@SkipsenPB That is my problem, too. I find sleeping with the TV on helps because my brain has one thing to focus on instead of scattered thoughts.
@@becorations1 try not to use the TV to sleep. They say it’s one of the worst things you can do. What about trying a fan?
@@windermere2330 They are wrong. 😝 I’ve been told this before, but it’s what works for me. A fan does no good because my mind still races. A tv actually gives my brain something to “grab” so go speak. Otherwise, it will not shut up. My internet has gone in and out several times this week, and my sleep has been almost non-existent.
This doesn’t work for me because I can get the relaxation and breathing part done really well, except I can’t seem to stay asleep, any tips?
I’ve been practicing this technique for well over 30 + years, even to this day, now that I’ve retired from the Military. It has helped tremendously in those times of war, but as I transferred back into civilian life. There are many stresses in life that are not associated with the high stresses, and demands of military life. But there are associations of stress that build up, even in civilian settings. This is a very good technique 😇🙏👍
Will this work for people who aren’t in the military? Because I don’t want to go to my family doctor for a prescription
You are the first veteran I've heard use this technique. All the others say they never heard tale of it in their entire lives, and the only "fall asleep fast anywhere" technique the military uses is keeping their entire workforce in a constant state of sleep deprivation. Seems like a terrible way to do things but I think the only people who think the military would certainly not do anything ever in a terrible way are lifelong civilians. I feel like the special ops community though must have some good sleeping techniques, since they don't live the same day-to-day lifestyle and yet manage to sleep on their flights to their assignments.
I tried it for a few months and it never worked. Looked up many videos and lots of research to see if I was making a mistake but I just lay there with a quiet mind for hours,,awake. I gotta take melatonin
I have not even been in one and I know this technique lol 😂 I was born with it...
@@sandrasennhauser1776 why would it only be for military people?
I remember doing this at yoga class. Ahh.. that 15 min sleep felt like 7hrs of sleep. You feel super energized after this.
Power napping, feels so revitalising - more often than 6hrs sleep.
For real?
So basically they copied yoganidra technique to label it as their own unique technique. Typical of westerners claiming everything preexisting in the world as an invention.
Thank you I was wondering where in the world I learned this. Was a book, introvert here and I read about Yoga in my 20s
Thank you..for.pointing out ..this is an standard yoga posture practiced for centuries
I have chronic insomnia. I had brain cancer, and my brain doesn't naturally make sleep hormones, so I physically cannot sleep without use of about 5 (or more some nights) sleep aids. My average bedtime is around 4 am.
I tried that, and it has helped on some particularly stubborn nights. It definitely doesn't take just two minutes for me, more like 10 or 15. It was your video I saw that got me to try it, so I appreciate it!
I'm so sorry you are going through this.

@@thestone3849 down from 100 - if you're going to sleep you can notice yourself slipping off when you get it wrong - accidentally count upwards, usually about 97. Though there are nights when I have ground all the way down from 100, more than once. Also, imagining yourself feeling heavy helps, so heavy that you sink into the ground. And when you do the relax-your-body thing, it is good to include your tongue, the back of your tongue and your throat - it stops you talking yourself, I find.

Exactly
I have my own technique:
1) Find a really comortable position.
2) Breath slow and relaxed
3) Start counting your breathing on every exhale BACKWARDS from 250. If you loose your count you have to start over from 250 again. It clears your mind becsuse you can not think of anything distracting.
Works every time. I rarely manage to get passed 170-180 before falling asleep.
Did it works for someone? I qive it try
Good point
The technique in the video really stops my brain from thinking. After 20mins ive fallen asleep
It's important to be persistent with practice. I personally feel stressed when I try to fall asleep, I worry I won't be able to do so. But, with having a clear cut goal like this, I can think that even if I can't fall asleep, I will improve my skill to do so in the future. Which relaxes me, I hope it can for you too!

This is literally what i do on nights i have bad anxiety and it works like a charm. I had no idea it was an actual technique. I imagine i’m on a beach after relaxing all my muscles
What I learned before was to also tense all your muscles up and then slowly let go and relax as much as you can, focusing on specific areas part by part from head to toe.
I saw that in a video recently. It seems like it would dovetail great with this technique!
Makes sense for young people but the muscle tensing doesn’t work welll for older people w arthritis or chronic pain
Tensing muscles releases adenozine which actually makes you stay awake longer
@@IndipenderIt is only released intramuscularly when the muscles are worked to failure. Like the burning and shaking sensation you feel after lifting heavy weights with repetition. A slight, brief contraction of the muscles will not release adenosine. But upon relaxing the muscles after that slight, brief contraction can help you really feel and actually assist in the complete relaxation of each muscle and result in an almost totally relaxed and euphoric sensation. Deep breathing, especially on the exhale when relaxing each muscle group is the key.
@@TheAxe4Ever you are mixing it with that adenosine is released into the venous efflux of exercising muscle and that adenosine is responsible for 20/40% of the maintained phase of the muscle vasodilatation that accompanies submaximal and maximal contractions.
For anyone interested, I started trying this about a week ago and already I have a lot more success sleeping faster and better. If I had to guess, it takes me like 5-10 minutes to fall asleep, and some nights I just won't be able to do it because I can't control distractions, but this is still MUCH better than what I had before, where it took me an hour to sleep and constantly wake up through the night,
Huh
I will tell you the best possible method. Learn some Psalms from Bible. When lying in bed say it mentally. If you get sleep it is better if you progress in Psalms it is even better.

I learned to do something similar in high school. When I worked do residential care for teens with mental health issues - there was a kid who hadn't had a good night of sleep in years (like barely more than 3 hours) due to extreme anxiety. Walked him through a meditation similar to this technique and he was out in minutes. Did it two nights in a row and slept through both nights. He was doing it on his own in two weeks, with only the occasional sleep issue from there.
Unfortunately I’m pretty much the same no matter what I do for the past decade or so ever since I got into my 30s I can only sleep 1-2hours a day after that my body will wake me up(also I’m immune to everything that has to do with anesthesia strong meds even specific types of poison )

I'm listening.
Sometimes, when lying on bed, I tense my entire body up, holding for 20 seconds, and then release, and breathe in slow, exhale slow, sometimes this helps.
Sometimes I visualize a candle, with a flame, and any thoughts that arise flickers the flame, so I focus on the flame being still.
And Sometimes, I'm able to entirely control my mind, from any intrusive thoughts, and fall asleep shortly after, but this doesn't work all the time - certain movies, states, life, hardships, internet, life, and life again, makes it difficult.
Wow, what a powerful meditative image of a candle- definitely using that from now on- thanks!!

@@TheLonelyMoon slide me some
It works even better if you flex and hold the muscles for a few seconds and *then* relax them - if you’re already tense from stress it’s not so easy to just relax your body because you can’t feel the tension unless you use each muscle group. Also, this exercise in itself empties the mind and I’d usually be asleep before finishing. You adapt, and pretty soon you’re taking power-naps in trees and on rock, anywhere your body was stationary for more than two minutes - especially if you had a Bergen on to lean against, or back to back with a buddy.

My technique for falling asleep is to close my eyes and imagine either a memory or a made-up scene/situation, and then I just keep going with it. Thanks for this video. Some other things I've tried:
1) Listen to sleep guided meditation/sleep stories/easy audiobooks
2) Focus on breathing slowly: controlling my breath actually helped me control my thoughts
3) If you have a tendency to think of scenarios, use that to your advantage: create some relaxing mental scenes and replay them
4) Cut down sugar and don't consume chocolate/caffeine after 5pm
5) If you have a sedentary lifestyle, tire your body out a bit through exercise
6) Drink chamomile or other calming herbal fusions (not right before bed though as they can be diuretic)

When I start having thoughts that keep me awake at night I think no not now, not now. I put those thoughts away for the night knowing that they are not more important than my health. Like the songs say what will be will be but I will not let it bother me tonight. Telling those thoughts to go away really works don't let them control your life or make you sick. Just tell them to go away.
This is actually strikingly similar to what my therapist had me do when I was suffering from insomnia. I wonder if he's former military or has military in his family.
Not likely since this isn't some super secret "military" thing anyhow. I spent 6 years in and 2 tours. Not one of us ever used some special technique. We fell asleep quickly because we were simply exhausted or loaded up on tylenol pm.And if we still couldn't go to sleep, they gave us ambien. While the technique may be legit, this guy is blowing smoke with this "special military" stuff.
almost every sleep meditation video uses this method too, this aint just for military
@@returntothepath I was born in 1914, I know this is true

I also found, in my own awareness, that if I think about factual events, I can't doze off, but if I create fictional events, I will soon get sleepy. My problem was either stressing about the day I just had or worrying about the next day I'm about to have. I had to practice making myself understand that it's time for sleep and everything else will wait.

Watching a video who is 2 minutes long who explains how to fall asleep in 2 minutes... It worked, I did fall asleep even before the video was over. Thx man. 👍
This is basically an old yoga technique. Years ago I had an accidental out of body (OBE) experience with this. I didn’t know what I was going through when it happened. Both eyes closed, in complete darkness I suddenly found myself floating in mid air towards the ceiling! And I could see very well even though I could feel my eyelids closed! I kept going up, moving ahead of the bed and once near the ceiling I was afraid I would hurt myself if the phenomenon stopped because I would have fallen on a hard wood floor! I quickly figured out how I got up there: curiosity. Some reversed the process. I told myself: I want to go back in bed, repeatedly. And it worked. A few days later, after talking with friends I realized I had experienced an OBE.
Tensing and then releasing each muscle as you go down your body also is a powerful relaxation tool during this exercise.
this is actually quite accurate. i use a similar technique that my mother told me when i was a child and struggled to sleep. she used to tell me to pretend that i was sleeping on a lilo in a pool, just free of any care in the world and enjoying the relaxation in that moment. i use this every time i struggle to sleep and it WORKS. as someone who suffers from very bad anxiety, my heart can be racing when i want to sleep, but using this technique helps me so so much
I had to go to a very specialized sleep specialist for a sleep disorder that I have. I was told to think of looking at a black chalkboard, and to focus on my breathing. Four count slow inhale and four count slow exhale. Works every time. I suggested this to a friend who was a translator in Afghanistan and came back to the states with insomnia. They tried it and said it worked for them too.
I have been using this technique post covid aince staying up late night were a habit during the long lockdown and it always works for me, now I can sleep everywhere - standing, hunching on the table, in the train, etc. Though I added a step which is makes all sounds as white noise.
Watching this is keeping me from actually trying to sleep
Love that the video is 2 min as well - i could have fallen asleep by now
Edit: Thank you for this great info🙌🏽

My mother helped me with this. She took a class in hypnosis, and actually became pretty good at the technique.
The only post-hypnotic suggestion she left me with was to help me go to sleep by repeating “relax” while tensing and relaxing each set of muscles from the feet up. I still use it to this day, more than fifty years later!
Your mom sounds cool. Mine just yelled at me when I couldn’t sleep.
@@pachiramen4605 I’m so sorry to hear that
I hope the creator will read my comment. This technique works well for me. I have had insomnia off and on for 23 years. Using this technique has blessed me with sweet sleep for over a week now. In the past I couldn’t have imagined sleeping well for days straight without sleep aid. Now I can sleep at will even for a nap in the middle of the day, if I like.
Wooow! Works perfectly! Now I can finally fall asleep anytime and anywhere in just 2 minutes!
Watching this at 8 a.m. (w no sleep) surely feels nice. Now that I know how to sleep, I can try this out in a few days! 🙂
I've been having trouble sleeping recently because of stress (I'm a student with a lot of exams coming up), so I'm gonna try this tonight and I really hope it works. :(
Did it work?
You need to repeat the exercise for 6 weeks
I'm curious as well if it will work... myself as many from here from what I'm seeing, I'm struggling to sleep and will test this out for the next weeks... hopefully I will remember to note down the progress and final result (I'm from Romania, 25y old, not an internet troll or just some kid that watched the vid and over night got the capacity to sleep as described in the vid)
@@x093l not yet. I tried it for a few weeks and although it made me more relaxed, I wouldn't say it helped. Although, I have been sleeping better because I'm less stressed and I read before bed. I would say that not having anything stressful on your mind and reading a book if you can't sleep helps.
@@costafarian6978 I have been trying this for 1-2 weeks and it hasn't worked but after coming back to this video and reading the comments it has made me want to try again so I'll continue.
This is basically a Body Scan and a part of a meditation technique. I meditate every day, and a body scan is included in my 7 Phase meditation, but the first thing I do is 11 deep breaths, inhaling through the nose, holding it and making sure my stomach is blown out fully, then exhaling through the mouth until my tummy is flattened like a pancake. After 11 of these, I am much more relaxed. I'd recommend that first, then go for the body scan, afterwards. Cheers.
I learned this technique in Lamaze class. The only difference is we started from feet up, repeating to ourselves, each part is “heavy and warm”. It works like a charm. I don’t know why I don’t think of doing it when I’m tossing and turning at 3 AM.
The same occurs with me.
@@mariadelourdeslanzellotti4208 here lately, I’ve been falling asleep ok, but I’m waking up at around 4, and cannot go back to sleep. It also makes for a long, tired day.
Either I got lucky on my first try or this actually works. Tried it last night and I was completely out in about 5-10 mins. I live in a noisy area but concentrating on my breathing and thinking about a memory in depth helped me to fall right to sleep. Thank you, I'll be using this every night.
Brother, if it took you 5-10 minutes to fall asleep using a two minute technique, it didn't work.
haha im the exac t opposite. If i focus on my breathing i start panicking
"Don't think. Don't think. Don't think"
My mind: Mhm... Bean bags are just boneless sofas.
"Shut up. Shut up. Shut up..."
PE teacher taught us this in the 1960's. Worked up to about 10 years ago. One of the most important things I learned in high school. I also used this technique to relax but not to sweep on scary redes or stressful situations.
What is PE?
@@Judosaper Physical Education, basically playing sports
@@RonanMathieson aaah thanks
Why did it stop working?
what are scary redes ??
As someone who tend to have insomnia issues, isn't the relaxing the hardest part to begin with
The words I used every time I'm feeling disturbed or distracted when trying to sleep is white. When I repeatedly think of the colour white, my mind instantly sees white like an open space and a white light. This enables me to feel tranquil and serendipity as if I'm carefree and it helps to create a blank but relaxing feeling. A feeling drifting into a blank nothingness.
That's purple for me.
I have trouble with sleep, and one thing that I find crazy is that sometimes when I fall asleep fast my mind isn't clear at all. I'll be thinking about something, then I realize that my eyes are closed and I'm mostly asleep, then I wake up. It's as though the thought "distracts" my mind from being awake, and the realization of that reminds my mind to be awake. Also, sometimes when this happens my thoughts morph into dreams before I realize that I'm falling asleep.
This is popular with hypnotist too. I learned this year's ago and it makes you feel almost numb with relaxation. The trick is to be in tune with your mind and body and to really tune into each individual muscle, it might take practice to get it just right for your own body but it's worth the effort to have that connection.
My brother was a private pilot. He said to fall asleep, think of preparing to do something you love. He loved flying so he would mentally go through his preflight, do his walk-around, climb into the plane and would fall asleep while putting on his head phones. He could also take a 20 minute "power nap" anywhere.
I love to ride my horse so I think about putting on my boots and helmet, walking to the barn, cleaning my horse's feet, and fall asleep brushing him. Works every time, at least in a non-war scenario.
Gotta hope he doesnt fall asleep after pre flight check up while on the job though😱😅
I spent 4 years in the infantry, and the way they got us to fall asleep fast involved running us until we basically died.
If that didn't work, we drank until we passed out. Hope this is helpful.
I have been doing this for a couple years i did not know it was a special technique, i just started doing it by listening to my body and found out its a best way for quick sleep especially when i travel. Wow.

I feel bad for you
Jajajaja
This is a very ancient technique from India called the “SHAVASAN” Napoleon used this everyday to reduce his sleep duration also. Absolutely time tested asana performed after a session of daily yoga asana practice👍🏻
This helped me A LOT! I have been waking up in the middle of the night, even when I go to bed early. Thank you! ❤
Can you answer these 3 questions? (I'm doing Market Research)
1. What do you feel when you can't sleep ?
2. If you had 3 wishes, what whould they be? (about sleep)
3. What do you Believe is the main solution for your Problem?
same
This sounds like an article I'd read in my teens that called this "alert relaxation" which lead to "lucid dreaming". Which helps you to control your dreams when sleeping.
Thanks, I'll give this a go.
I don't get home from work until 11pm, which makes it difficult for me to relax & go sleep at night.
My sincere thanks for sharing it.
It’s funny watching this as I’ve never had issues falling to sleep quickly but when talking to those that struggle to sleep due to thinking about things that are stressing them out I treat sleep as an opportunity to not have to deal with such things. Works every time.
the fact that I'm typing this while sleeping is so unreal! very effective
Looool
Same lol
watching it at 3:24
have to wake up at 5:30
so can't have my overthinking session tonight!
🤨
RUclips recommended me this video literally before going to sleep😂
I've been doing this for YEARS! everyone thinks I am joking, my dark room aspect has some differences yet it works! I also cross my arms on my chest. Focus on breathing.
I imagine a dark room with a door and each time I go into the next room it is darker, and darker and then boom. Sometimes I fall asleep yet I am still aware of my surroundings, I am paralyzed I can feel my body is sleeping but also sense I am conscious of where I am.
That's called sleep paralysis as far as I think
I do a version of this, only I start at the extremities. 1: Lie down, get as comfortable as possible so there's nothing poking or otherwise calling attention to the bed or your body. 2: Deep breath, exhale and go as limp as possible. Feet, hands, arms, legs, hips, shoulders, back, stomach, chest, neck... When you think you're totally limp, go more limp. (See, you weren't totally limp after all.) 3: Concentrate on your nose until you become unaware of the rest of your body. Focus on the details of your nose. Feel your breath going in and out of your nostrils and notice the change in temperature. Notice your pulse at the tip of your nose. Focus... Focus... Everything else melts away and..................................
Upvote for lie down and not lay down.
I am definitely going to try this tonight I've been suffering with insomnia for the past 30 years thanks for the technique🤗👍
I was suffering from Insomnia but this technique helped me a lot.
Doesn’t work for anyone who can’t go to sleep just those who already are going to sleep. Tried it for 15 yrs. Amazing works after I’m up 4 days at a time
Just watching this was so calming I could fall asleep
This is the ancient Hindu Yoga technique which is known as Shavaasan, which means deadbody position. Where "Shav" means deadbody and "Aasan" means position.
There’s an incredibly effective technique where you breath in while counting to 4, hold your breath and count to 7, exhale while counting to 8, then soon inhale again after a second or two. Works like magic!
That is meant to lower bp
