Dave is obviously a true "Craftsmans" at his work. Over the past 50 years I've seen far too many men calling themselves "Pistolsmiths" that can ruin a perfectly good pistol faster then you can blink. Great instructional video.
Followed Dave's video instructions & the install went a gazillion times better than my previous attempts. No struggling at all to get the dovetail in & I wish I would have watched this before I butchered the previous sight install. A sincere thank you to "the philosopher".
I have installed a ton of Dawson sights. For me they are the ultimate for 1911, Glock, Beretta, HK etc. Following Daves directions in this video as well as his video on front sight installation made multiple installations fit right together! Thanks and keep making the great products!
Dave is top notch ! He installed a front night sight on my Bul Armory after I bent one trying to do it myself. I was expecting about a month to get my slide back but even before the holidays he knocked it out and I got it back super quick. Top tier professional in my book !! Thanks Dave.
I think you should be a stand-up comedian; I laugh all the way through your videos. But more than that I think you should teach a class on this stuff. I've learned more in 35 minutes of your videos than all the rest combined.
Thank You very much for this video. I've got one of your front sights on my SIG 1911 STX, and am installing an adjustable rear Novak Lo-Mount. (sorry) This video was VERY helpful. Wonderful watching and learning from a master. Many things I didn't know. Best to you and yours. Be safe. Be well.
Excellent instructions. Just replaced the standard sighs on XDm with truglo tritium night sights. Far easier than all the XDm horror stories led me to believe it would be. Your advice had a lot to do with the success. Thanks a bunch.
Not a Grandmaster but a gun enthusiast. Worked 42 yrs in maintenance, trubleshooting and repair of simple to complex machinery wich help me do my guns jobs for the last 40 plus years. Now, some dovetails parts are manufactured to be removed to a specific side and installed reversing the removal procedure. Second, red threadlockers were and are used when you want a permanent hold, blue removable threadlock keeps the screw or whatever tight but removable. Never use red in my guns, only blue, With all due respect as he said if you are "sure" the sight is correct used the red. My experience. I am only sure after a range test. Have a nice day.
2:22 I know someone who loves to hammer on things... I can only imagine you face that on a daily basis. Excellent video, I hope it saves you repairing the work of the hammerers out there.
Thanks for the video... I just got done installing a 10-8 Performance rear sight on my Colt 1991... it went well(just took a while.. it was quite over sized compared to my slide) and looks great, just need the paint the visible parts of the angled side of the sight where it was filed to fit.
Just got my sights and installed them. Not hard at all, the video helped tremendously. I love these sights. I cant wait to get to the range and test them out. These sights will make me a GM, right? :-) Thanks Dave for an awesome product.
dont know if anyone gives a shit but if you guys are stoned like me atm then you can watch pretty much all of the new series on InstaFlixxer. Have been watching with my girlfriend for the last couple of weeks :)
Great video Dave. I have watched it a few times already. I didn't want to install my DP dovetailed front sight on my 1911, that is why I sent it to you, but on a Glock, I am going to give it a shot on the rear. Thanks again for the video. EW
Thank you for good info! I can't imaging that these days the sight would not be within tolerances making filing unnecessary, but as labor is costly and a fit costs time and money in a mass production world I guess it provides us another weekend project. Keep those skills honed peoples.
I just got a set of sights and the instructions say to use loctite glue 271 on the rear. At 12:00 you say not to use loctite in the dovetail, just the set screw. Do I use loctite or not?
I’m having a lot of trouble installing the DP night sights. I’m scared I’ve already messed up my back plate. And what kind of pen is that? A blueing pen?
I thot rear sights went in and cane out from the right side- gun pointing down range. Glocks don't have a tapered dovetail but are loose-tight- loose and can go in and out either way?
Damit I should have watched this video first. I have a feeling I f*** up. I read the directions and I am pretty sure I filed on the wrong of the dove tail and used the loctite to soon. I am screwed. I guess mistakes is how I learn . Crap.

The best sight install video series out there period, thank you!

Watched this video to install adjustable rear sights on a CZ that has a dovetail rear cut. Worked out perfectly. Thanks, Dave!
Thank you! Definitely helped save me from butchering my new 1911 and the red-dot mount. Fits nice and snug, without the big hammer!
Excellent instructions. Just replaced the standard sighs on XDm with truglo tritium night sights. Far easier than all the XDm horror stories led me to believe it would be. Your advice had a lot to do with the success. Thanks a bunch.
If only the rear sight was that easy to remove on a the Springfield 1911's! I swear Springfield seats them in with a hydraulic press machine.
The fact that Dave has painters tape over an old Wilton vise no jaws is savage af.
Thanks for this instructional video. I was able to change out the rear sight on my Glock 19X with a Mepro adjustable sight, no problem!!

Just installed Dawson sights on mY Walther PPQ, excellent craftsmanship. Very good instructional video, well done.👏
sunnykrusty I'm thinking of getting a set for my PPQ. Do you like them? Were they easy to install? Thanks.

I've archived this video for future reference. I'm 70 and I sometimes forget details.

@Elliott Bodie definitely, have been using InstaFlixxer for since november myself :D

Thanks! I appreciate all the tips, from how to use the file to blue sharpie!
Thanks for this video, made installing the new rear sights much easier on my Walther PPQ M2
Jason Brougham did you have to file to get over the ridges on top of slide on PPQ
Jason Brougham on the rear sight
I did have to file down the rear sight itself a small bit to be able to insert the sight into the notch on the slide...
Jason Brougham but it went over the serrated top on slide? Mine slides I slot but stops at serrations
I had no issues with it going over the serrations on the top of the slide...
Thank you for good info! I can't imaging that these days the sight would not be within tolerances making filing unnecessary, but as labor is costly and a fit costs time and money in a mass production world I guess it provides us another weekend project. Keep those skills honed peoples.
Finesse is the operative term. Semper Fi

Awesome, Awesome video!! This is exactly what I needed! Thank you so much for your good instruction!!
Thank you !
Very helpful. I'm installing mine on my p320 now.
Dawson is a funny dude! 😂
Good video! Any advice for a sight that is too loose?
I heard using a hole punch on bottom of sight creates thicker surface area to fill gap.
I have caught pusher. Can't I just use that to push it in? Even if it is tight the pusher should have no trouble pushing it in
I’m having a lot of trouble installing the DP night sights. I’m scared I’ve already messed up my back plate. And what kind of pen is that? A blueing pen?
Uhhh... EPIC workshop!!
Hello, are you filing the back side of the dovetail? or do you file front and back?
Thanks
I thot rear sights went in and cane out from the right side- gun pointing down range. Glocks don't have a tapered dovetail but are loose-tight- loose and can go in and out either way?
If I use BLUE loctite by filling the hole and pushing it in with the set screw, will that sight be adjustable? Will I be able to loosen the set screw?
You think this procedure would work on a Kahr CT45. I havent tried it yet but I heard they are very hard to get out. Thank's, Les..
Are springfield armory xdm dovetails and sig sauer p365 dovetails the same size?
How much do you charge change sights?
Where do you buy your gunsmithing tools? For instance the ones you're using in this
Nevermind I found your website but I am curious where did you get the wood handled hammer
Hi, great vid.
I bought Dawson adjustable sights for Gen 3 G17, how you can zero them and what to use for doing it??? Any help will be appreciate.
Putting DP fiber optic sights on my GSG 1911. Much nicer than original sights.
Call me crazy, but are not all triangular files 60 degrees?
Great video! Thanks for uploading!
Ike
Question. What rear dovetail type is common to HK USP full size 45? ie; is it the same dovetail as a 1911? Thank you if you can help.
What sights would you recommend for a Glock 30 for concealed carry?
thanks , i got an ameriglo for a shield s&W and it just didnt fit so off to buy small files.
Amero
I have a Springfield 1911 a1
Rear sight is loose what do you recommend
i feel bad that i didnt buy your sights lol think i will for my g26

i thought you were supposed to take out sight left to right then replace right to left.??
Damit I should have watched this video first. I have a feeling I f*** up. I read the directions and I am pretty sure I filed on the wrong of the dove tail and used the loctite to soon. I am screwed. I guess mistakes is how I learn . Crap.
Lube it, if it is that tight.
