Feeling overwhelmed knows no age. I am in my seventies and have good and bad days. The trick is to keep moving and have faith. Prayers are always answered!
It’s so helpful to know that even someone as highly effective as you, can get overwhelmed at times. I watch your videos when I feel overwhelmed-the content is very relaxing :)
I have a crazy week ahead, and thought it would be great to start the week with a Jennifer You Tube video, and this was the latest available. So perfect. I also watch and sometimes rewatch The Daily Connoisseur when I am overwhelmed. Jennifer's voice is calming, and I always learn something new from her.
Being a “woman of a certain age” who no longer has children at home but works full time I can feel overwhelmed at times. What I do is reassure myself that while it may be complex, the situation is only temporary. It will pass. Take one step at a time and do the next right thing.
I'm 45 years old and underwent scoliosis corrective surgery 2 months ago. Due to this, I fell behind with my clients' work and my studies and obviously, the feeling of being overwhelmed threatened to engulf me. I have found that going for a walk outside and talking to the Lord and taking in all the flowers and plants that are thriving in the garden really calms me down and help me refocus on what is important and thus prioritize.
I love that you mentioned prayer and meditation as a foundational step when feeling overwhelmed! This is my first step in those times! Thank you for the other wonderful tips as well. 🌹
I also pray when I'm overwhelmed ("When other helpers fail and comforts flee, Help of the helpless, O abide with me.") Sometimes I will play favorite comforting hymns on the piano, other times I go to my 'Soothing Connoisseur' playlist and watch a couple of those. Tea is always involved with these activities. Thank you for this video, Jennifer. It came at the perfect time.
I especially love the Peace Prayer (aka Prayer of St Francis, though he most likely did not write it) especially when I am feeling frustrated by others and overwhelmed by motherhood 😊 it’s originally in French so there are a couple versions, many set to music. I usually use the version that starts “Lord, make me a channel of thy peace, that where there is hatred, I may bring love”
I bought a great CD---Hymns of the faith in 2017. I had been listening and reading too much news and it was bothering me. I decided that I would listen only to hymns on my commute to and from work. Wow. What a difference!
I felt overwhelmed today helping my parents with VA benefits. After the task was done, I unwound with a warm shower and a video from the Daily Connoisseur💖🌺
I have a couple bird feeders set around my house, one by a kitchen window and two out my living room windows. It’s so enjoyable to take a brief moment to look outside and see if there are any birds on the feeder. Taking a minute to watch a bird is a great relief when I’m busy and overwhelmed :)
Yes to reading to fight overwhelm! A few years ago I was teaching a difficult class. To calm my nerves, I would get to the classroom quite early and spend at least 20 minutes reading a good novel that I saved for those times. Sounds strange, but it helped me face the experience with a sense of calm and poise.
Hello Jennifer, I have always loved everything British, even as a young girl. I was fascinated with every movie I watched or book I read that the first thing they would do in any situation was make a strong cup of tea. How they brewed it in a teapot and served it in beautiful cups fascinated me. I thought it was a magical drink and I still do! ❤ Reading the Psalms is very calming also.
When overwhelmed, I like to go and take a bath, wash my hair, and do manicures. There is something positive about putting yourself first, for a change 😊
For me, prayer, casting my cares on the Lord. I also just love to be in nature. Hope your feeling better. Take it slow and be more gentle on yourself🌸 Ps: your roses are gorgeous!
Hi Jennifer! To my surprise I recently felt a bit anxious or stressed about turning 30 this year. I never thought becoming older would bother me but since turning 29 I felt this strange pressure about it, but watching you makes me excited to turn 42 honestly! It's not only you looks and your style but your energy. I hope one day I can have this kind of energy too! Kind regards, Karina ❤
Jennifer, I am also admiring the prayer. In this video you sounded a little uncertain or shy about it like your audience might get offended that you talk about the prayer. We live in this time when dark is called light… everything is twisting and turning upside down. We should be proud of having such a power of prayer … only God can help us to go through this turbulent world. God bless you!
I am a new hommaker in a house we bought 6 months ago at home with a 1 year old. Everything is new to me and I am trying to implement routines for cleaning, cooking, keeping a large home tidy, keeping myself clean and presentable. It would be so Nice to see a video where you talk about mothering and hommaking looking back on when you had your first child when all was new to you. From helene from the north of sweden
🎀I have thé Duolingo. Ive been really busy lately but I was trying to relearn French. I used to be quite good at it enough to have conversations with my Aunty. German or Cantonese is the second language I was considering learning. But I’m Still uncertain.🎀 🎀I love listening to music, singing, reading, writing. Watching comedy and playing instruments to cheer myself up.🎀
I like to lay down with my sleeping toddler. We listen to classical music and then he dozes off. Reading the Bible and praying also help sooth my overworked mind. I agree with the tea, it’s a must for all occasions!
I so appreciate this video. It is so timely with the world in such chaos and society being the same. This respite is so needed and appreciated Jennifer. Thank you for all you do for creating these videos and your books and other content. Sometimes it is hard to find the words to fully express my gratitude but you are a true gift. Thank you. 😊🌻💛
Thank you for this video, I can relate to many of the things you have suggested. As an empty nester I am not as likely to feel overwhelmed by caring for my family as many in this FB group would. My moments of overwhelm come from my chronic illnesses. I do incorporate a number of your suggestions into my routines. It also helps me to get outside of myself by serving others or doing a kindness. Like a nicer than usual meal for my husband or visiting a lonely neighbor. Thank you, Jennifer.
Just what I needed. Thank you. ❤ I play piano/sing when I get stressed and know that if I don’t even feel like doing that, I need to release excess stress. These ideas are beautiful.
I think it's pretty normal to feel a bit more stressed, irritated, overwhelmed or anxious at the beginning of Springtime. All that energy that was dormant in us during the winter is starting to awaken and get us ready to move, create, and work more in the warmer times ahead. I just remind myself that it's normal and that I can use that extra energy to get moving. Great video, Jennifer. Thanks for sharing
I pray too. In addition to what you mentioned, I’ll listen to a sermon or music (or worship song). I call my husband or mom and exercise. I will watch a relaxing video on you tube. Or bake bread or clean a room in the house. Great topic Jennifer.
Hi Jennifer. When I'm overwhelmed I tend to identify the most important of the tasks and start with that one. Even if it does consume most of the day, at least I can say one area or task is fully completed and this will give me great joy. Of course adding tea breaks outside along the way. Some of my friends like to plan out the whole weeks menu Sunday night. I haven't tried this yet. I plan every 2 to 3 days of meals. So this is how I deal with overwhelming feelings. Have a good week. Beverley ❤
I'm sending you a hug and a ray of springtime sunshine. Your video is wonderful and so are you. Remember that sometimes when you are feeling overwhelmed that it is likely a sign that it is almost time to harvest all the things that you've been working towards. Your lovely rose bouquet is a symbol of a harvest, after all of your efforts to bring them to bloom.🌹
I’m addition to what I just wrote, I will add that one thing I have recently found that calms me is to take the time to talk with someone about something that is not serious - perhaps a question as simple as “Do you have a favorite flower?” Taking just a few moments to do that, really listening, pausing and reflecting, really does wonders for my little introverted self. 💕🦄
In high school I fell in love with the Spanish language and devoted myself to learning it pretty thoroughly. I haven’t used it in about 12 years so I’d like to brush up on that but I would also like to learn French. A few years ago I visited France for the first time and enjoyed it tremendously. I look forward to the day when I can go back. 🎉🎉
For me, taking a nice walk in nature; feeling the sun, or the cold, breathing fresh air and listening to the sounds around me renews my perspective and refreshes my mind and body. I also enjoy many of the things you suggested. I hope you are feeling better soon Jennifer and thank you for adding beauty to our lives with your lovely videos.
I will often go in my room because it’s usually the cleanest room in the house and I will listen to peaceful music (Helen Jane Long and Michelle McLaughlin are two of my favorites) … sometimes I will journal .. sometimes I will just lay and close my eyes and breathe.
Hi Jennifer! The first thing I do when I feel overwhelmed is the same thing you mentioned: I stop and take time to pray. This always gives me peace. The other thing I do is looking for beauty: in a good magazine like Victoria, in a nice video like one of yours, by listening to soft classical music. Beauty can also be found in nature, like you suggested! Thank you for this wonderful video you made even if you were not feeling so good! I hope you get better soon!
When I'm stressing and overwhelmed I have Bible verses in a spiral that I have collected for just such an occasion. Reading these verses helps to reset my thinking. I also pull out my knitting. I may not knit for very long but even a couple rows settles me down and I feel like I got something accomplished and it helps me to get up and go accomplish something else.
So many good ideas. I also like to sit or lay down and take slow, deep, calming breaths. Even just 10 or 12 deep slow inhales and slow exhales will calm me down.
Knitting, crocheting or slow stitching calms me down. Even if it is just a row or a few stitches. A needle moving in and out of fabric or yarn is very meditative. If time allows it, I listen to and audio book while stitching, or a piece of beautiful music. Best of both worlds.
Feeling completely overwhelmed lately with a very unpleasant situation at work.... I got up to make a hot cup of tea and ... find to my delight a new video from you on the topic of being overwhelmed 🙂 thanks so much for sharing and making me feel a bit better... one thing I do I would like to add to your list is cuddle my cats... they actually feel when I am not well and come find me for a cuddle ....
Yes, I enjoy doing all of these things! Since I'm an empty-nester, I like to get in the car and go for a drive while listening to The Message on the radio. The songs they play always calm me and a drive around town clears my head. Hope your cold goes away soon.
I like to turn out the lights and take a 10 minute catnap. I don’t usually fall asleep but it’s the deceleration of my heartbeat that calms me. Your roses are amazing - you are very fortunate to have so many varieties!
Reading is definitely my number one go-to when I'm overwhelmed! Adding a cup of tea is an excellent idea; I generally don't think to make myself a treat like tea when I'm already stressed out about my to do list.
I’ve been known to watch your videos when overwhelmed- your voice is calming and your advice is sound. ☺️ I also do a few moments of deep breathing, or listen to relaxation music while doing medical paperwork or cleaning, elevating the experience of mundane or stressful work.
Watching your videos soothe me. As a full time caretaker for husband with pd I really appreciated these reminders and tips. I also often focus on taking long slow deep breaths...very calming!
Hi Jennifer, Thank you for sharing ideas for overwhelm. I try to first pray and then make a list of what I’m overwhelmed about that day. Seeing it listed on paper helps me see what is the top issue and how I can be proactive. Getting quiet to drink tea or write a letter isn’t an option but texting my 3 friends in a group text to ask for prayer and insights is always encouraging. As scripture says, it is an iron sharpening iron time to get clarity on the topic where fog might have dampened my vision. Julie 🌷
When I am feeling overwhelmed, I meditate. When I am feeling overwhelmed I remind myself not to be afraid and to know that I am a part of a loving universe that knows me and loves me unconditionally. I imagine a light that is inside of my soul. I make a practice of noticing the inner light that is in everyone. I believe that we are here to love and that includes loving ourselves. So making time to be still, to pray, to meditate is the beginning of healing the feelings of being overwhelmed. Thank you for this very loving and caring video Jennifer. It is important.
Worship music is my go to. And if you can use sound blocking headphones even better. I have certain songs that have been essential for me getting through very overwhelming circumstances!
I love all these tips, especially the flower arranging one. I enjoy doing that, too. One thing I do when I am feeling overwhelmed if the weather permits is to go for a walk around the neighborhood. I get out in nature (another one of your tips) and the sunshine (I always wear sunscreen) and I get a little exercise in the process. Most of the time I pray when I am walking. Another thing I enjoy doing when feeling overwhelmed is to color in adult coloring books with lovely pictures of flowers or houses. And yes, I color with crayons. I know that probably sounds silly, but I feel totally relaxed when I am working on a picture and the more color I use, the better. I loved to color when I was a child so that might be the reason it relaxes me so much. I also limit social media if I am feeling especially overwhelmed. I am caring for my elderly father so I am overwhelmed a lot these days.
Watching your videos is de-stressing in itself, and I engage in most of the activities you have spoken about (especially having tea! 🫖) I also find it calming to listen to classical and smooth jazz music 🎶 and I enjoy the ‘ceremony’ of lighting candles and watching them flicker 🕯️ Thank you Jennifer for your tranquil, enriching, and classy content. God bless and sending love from Bath in England 🛁 ❤
Thank you for sharing. Here are some of the things that I do when I am feeling overwhelmed. I pray and think about my blessings. I read and listen to music. I spend time alone, because total silence calms me.
I like to have a cup of tea and crochet. It requires a bit of focus but not too much. Its enough to pull you away from your racing mind and quiet end everything down.
When I’m overwhelmed I also love reading, writing to pen pals, and going out in nature! I also love watching relaxing RUclips videos such as this one, and listening to calming/comforting music such as classical or Christian. Some flower shops offer flower arranging classes! There’s also Skillshare which has online video courses at your own place, and most public libraries offer you a free subscription for 3-6 months 😊 I think flower arranging classes are on there too. If I could learn another language I would learn Spanish to communicate with in-laws and Italian for the fun of it! 😃
Personally exercise always does it for me. When I feel that I can't cope anymore a good 3 miler (or more if time permits) cleanses me and restores my soul and body. We all have down moments in our lives. Take good care of yourself Jennifer. We love watching and listening to you. Feel better soon!
A long bath or a quick shower with scented epsom salts can do wonders. But, if I can't stop, I put on music. Currently, I"ve got the Bridgerton Soundtracks on repeat. The remixes of contemporary songs that sound like Vivaldi have opened my ears to lots of new, to me, music.
The things I do when overwhelmed : write how I feel in a journal then do a recover journal with positive quotes with beautiful stickers , Pray, watch and listen to the birds is very soothing. I really enjoyed your video Jennifer.
I tend to straighten things - any piles of paper or things that should have been put away or loose ends tied up. Sometimes the wrong thing to do but it burns off some of the anxiety. I also like to brush my dog. She loves it and it does force me to calm myself and be in the moment with her. I suppose a long brushing of a child’s hair might be similar.
Jennifer, I really enjoyed this video. It was real and needed as we all have those days or seasons. Mornings are not good for me, so I have a routine that sets my mood in the right place. That first soothing tea in hand, I pray, giving thanks for the small things He has done and then I read His word , always asking for guidance for my day and my loved ones. Now it's time to exercise ,which now includes a walk in the fields with my dog. Now back home I have my second tea and watch a youtube video. This sets me for my day. I'm ready to tackle come what may. The other things you mentioned I do throughout my day. Your channel has shown me how to embrace the beautiful all day long, and I thank you for that. Be blessed.
Twenty minutes of silence when I wake up in the morning. No phone/tv/computer or music. Allow yourself to get settled. Prayer during that time would also be beneficial.
Taking a night walk in the garden is also therapeutic, the stars in the sky, or the beautiful dark clouds, the sounds of nature like the crickets, leaves rustling, night jars or other birds that sing at night. If you're lucky enough to live near the ocean, the soothing waves are so relaxing. I live inland so that is something I would listen to online. I also recommend listening to brown noise and pink noise on RUclips, it can be quite calming
These are all wonderful. 💛 Thank you! It often helps me to take a time out and get on my kids’ level and just listen to them. If I’m overwhelmed, chances are I’ve been too busy (and they have a lot to say)! Hearing them share with me what’s going on in their little worlds brings me joy, and it helps me realize my focus on what’s overwhelming me doesn’t need to be so intense. I often have to remind myself to look out and up from certain situations, comparing them to the bigger picture! From this higher vantage point, I feel I can tackle more with a clearer head. I can’t do it all, but I can always do something, which is way better than nothing. 😊
Hi Jennifer! Love your roses! I do most of the suggestions you mentioned. A new thing I am trying when overwhelmed, is I flex different parts of my body starting from my toes, feet, calves, and work my way up one at a time. It helps to relax, be in the present moment, and stretching the body!
Jennifer, I feel that I owe you so many thanks for everything you share with us and for all the hard work you put into your videos. These have made such a positive difference in my life! ❤️💥
As a public school teacher, I played Classical music in my classroom in the morning before and as students were entering the room. It gave calm to children who may not have calm at home. It relaxed me to be a better teacher.
I'm a former classroom teacher who played classical music for my first graders (along with deep breathing) when we all felt overwhelmed and needed a break. Now, as a sahm, I play classical and jazz during the day with my children.
I just discovered your channel and I really appreciate your content. I have found so much useful information. I am retired and honestly when I look back, I don't know how I did it all when I was working full time. But, I realize, I have lost focus and have become easily distracted, feeling overwhelmed with just doing simple daily tasks. Thanks for helping me bring focus back to my life. You are a blessing.
Believe it or not I start cleaning my house and it relaxes me to clean . I’ll scrub my bathtub or toilet. Or I go on a walk or meditate and pray as well . ❤
I'm a stay at home mom to two young children (3 years old and 4 months old). Part of what makes me feel overwhelmed is that the work is never finished. It's hard to feel a sense of accomplishment, even though logically I know what I'm doing is so valuable and important. Because of this, I love unwinding at the end of the day with arts and crafts. Usually knitting! It feels really good to be able to work on something with a clear beginning and end. I love the feeling of finishing a project that is both useful and beautiful! In this stage of life, I don't usually feel like I'm in a position to step away from the overwhelming situations. So I also really appreciate your tip about tuning into the soothing sounds around you!
Jennifer, what a wonderful video. It has been an overwhelming few months. Exercise, fresh air, watching birds, and reading for pleasure have helped immensely, along with Bible reading.
Pondering the Wonder of the intricate eco system. Seeing a honey bee knowing bees are responsible for 80% of everything in our grocery cart; then seeing your beautiful yard makes me feel awed. #ThankYou #LadyJennifer 💞
I love seeing your home and how you use your things as decoration. For example I love seeing the buffet servers in the galley of the kitchen it looks so elegant
Playing your favourite instrument or dancing to your favourite songs can help. I'm a DJ, I work in an organization that teaches music production and deejaying. When I need a break, I may get on the decks and do a set, just for me, with my favourite songs, dance as I play. It feels good! I don't have a piano, but I have a guitar; I plan to get song sheets of my favourite pianists and classical musicians, so that I can learn to play their music on the guitar too
Knitting is my go-to thing. It has been like that since I was 9 years old. I was a very sensitive child, so my teacher allowed me to knit in school, whenever possible. I loved that. Making and drinking tea also soothes me. Especially making matcha :-)
Beautiful video. I can relate to all that you said. Yes, prayer would be number 1 for me. Listening to Gospel singing, playing the piano, cup of hot chocolate, a visit to RUclips, cycling and walking and studying music theory would all be therapeutic for me.Thank you sooo much for providing such interesting videos.
I love all your tips and do most of them too. One way I deal with overwhelming feelings is I go on a power walk around my neighborhood and call and chat with my mom as I walk it out.
Wish I could give this video 10 thumbs up. I do none of these, at least not intentionally...but I will sometime rub an aromatic lotion or cream and slow down and deeply inhale when I am working through things and find myself spiralling.
Feeling overwhelmed knows no age. I am in my seventies and have good and bad days. The trick is to keep moving and have faith. Prayers are always answered!

I like that thought, "do the next right thing." Sometimes it is taking a walk or starting a simple item on the long to-do list.

Activity #9 Sit down and watch one of Jennifer's you tube videos 😍❤
Yes! That's one of the things I also do! You are right!
Exactly what I do!
Ha! Thank you 😍
I also pray when I'm overwhelmed ("When other helpers fail and comforts flee, Help of the helpless, O abide with me.") I felt overwhelmed today helping my parents with VA benefits. After the task was done, I unwound with a warm shower and a video from the Daily Connoisseur💖🌺
Love that prayer was the 1st activity! Prayer & verse reciting is my #1! My "look at something beautiful" is making art and is #2💛🧡❤️
I pray the Rosary daily. It is like putting down good seed, which grows with every word and crowds out the weeds in my mind (and heart).
I have a couple bird feeders set around my house, one by a kitchen window and two out my living room windows. It’s so enjoyable to take a brief moment to look outside and see if there are any birds on the feeder. Taking a minute to watch a bird is a great relief when I’m busy and overwhelmed :)
I love watching the birds!
Agreed!

For sure reading my Bible & praying brings an instant calm to me.
I have a list of over 100 things that help me. Some are: listen to worship music, paint my nails, or cuddle with my dog or cat.

When overwhelmed, I like to go and take a bath, wash my hair, and do manicures. There is something positive about putting yourself first, for a change 😊
A cup of coffee or tea and a tranquil , quite RUclips video like The Daily Connoisseur or The Cottage Fairy calms me down.
I love The Cottage Fairy too. Thank you!
@@TheDailyConnoisseur lol, what doesn’t calm me down is realizing I typed QUITE rather than QUIET.
What relaxes me are your old asmr cleaning vids (hour long). Time to film new ones, Jen! 😊 Thank you!❤
For me, prayer, casting my cares on the Lord. I also just love to be in nature. Hope your feeling better. Take it slow and be more gentle on yourself🌸
Ps: your roses are gorgeous!
Thank you! My roses make me so happy.
Here in the northern hemisphere, spring has finally arrived. I'm planning our gardens & clearing fallen branches in the sunshine. 🙋
I come here and watch you Jennifer when I’m overwhelmed - like right now! 😂❤

Wow I felt that today. I do not know why it felt like I was the only one feeling this way.
Yes to penpaling ! Would love a video on that.
So many good ideas. I also like to sit or lay down and take slow, deep, calming breaths. Even just 10 or 12 deep slow inhales and slow exhales will calm me down.
Needed this video this week……I have felt overwhelmed, anxious, and exhausted. I took notes and plan on implementing many of your ideas.
I like to doodle or draw something and listening to music as this can be as little as 5 mins or an hour. Loved your ideas and thanks for sharing.
I also do a few moments of deep breathing, or listen to relaxation music while doing medical paperwork or cleaning, elevating the experience of mundane or stressful work.
Watching your videos soothe me. As a full time caretaker for husband with pd I really appreciated these reminders and tips. I also often focus on taking long slow deep breaths...very calming!
Oh I dream of going to the garden to gather flowers in spring. As I speak we just got 6 inches of snow 😂
Julie 🌷
LOVE this and so wise as always!!! You are amazing! Biggest hugs to you my brilliant friend
Thank you, Myka! Sending much love to you, dear friend. Big hugs! ♥
That is powerful. Yes!
Decluttering is a huge one!
Exercise and Prayer !!
I had a teacher who did this and I loved it. Wonderful!
Wow. I absolutely love that idea!!!!!!!! I wish more teachers would take up that practice.
I'm a former classroom teacher who played classical music for my first graders (along with deep breathing) when we all felt overwhelmed and needed a break. Now, as a sahm, I play classical and jazz during the day with my children.
Being British,I know a cup of tea is the answer.
When I feel overwhelmed, I like to play classical music and write and also I like to bake. I also do all of the things you mentioned as well ❤
This video was so timely. Thank you, Jennifer ❤
I'm so glad. Thank you!
Merci Jennifer pour l'inspiration!
Snuggle with your pet, they know instinctively when you need a cuddle 🥰
Feel better soon! 💜💜💜
Thank you, Luba!
Playing my favorite music collection always helps me to focus, relax, or just give me pleasure.
20 mins walk works wonders for me
I love all your tips and do most of them too.
Honestly, this is a terrific stress management video ! Have a lovely day ! 👍✌️
The tea idea really helped me today. Added honey and I felt the aroma and the warmth helped me feel comforted 🤗
I like to either take a 10 minute Power Nap or a 10 minute drive ❤
