I wonder, could chronic stress/anxiety also cause symptoms of low stomach acid? I (seemingly) randomly go through phases where my constipation, reflux, bloating, and gas all calm waaaaay way down. And it does seem to all get way worse when I’m stressing out about my symptoms, it turns into a vicious cycle. I’ve dealt with anxiety my whole life, and have wondered how much of a role it could be playing, and you’re definitely giving me a lot to think about.

Wow!! I totally concur!! The stress-gut disruption connection is a REAL one!! 🎯 Goodness!! NOTHING "locks" my system up faster than the stress of air travel. Security check nightmares; rushing/running to gates; dealing with delays; public bathroom traumas!! 🚽🧻Ugh!! My go-to "loosener" is MCT oil. When I have to travel, I DON'T leave home without it!! 😅🙏🥰♥️✈

It is very interesting how stress affects the gut. In my case, I have tended towards constipation all of my life. However, when I get extremely stressed or nervous, I have the opposite effect! My bowels are stimulated and I go more than usual. However I am back to my "normal" the next day.

Completely RUINED my healthy active fit strong life bc I was bedridden in a wheelchair 2021 and still can’t do half of what I use to. Also, I can’t seem to eat all the fruits and vegetables I thrived on for YEARS bc of all the histamine and even gut and body I toleracrs. I don’t eat meat or dairy or beans or processed foods. I am obsessed healthy (have always been, but this experience triggered a crazy narrotic obsession to be ocd about my health and what I consume. I’ve done fruitarian diet, juicing ….fasting…starving lol. I’m sure whatever I have, it’s from yeast overgrowth just bc the itchiness and the sinus polyps I get ect. Anyways…would your channel be just as good for CANDIDAS YEAST . Perhaps I have SIBO too. But I think mine is more sided to yeast.

Hi Dr. DiNezza. I'm hopping you might be able to answer something for me. Thank you for your content by the way, I've binged watched most of your channel and have learned so much! I developed what I believe is most likely SIBO after a relatively short round of antibiotics, although I think I was teetering on the brink of SIBO for many years. My symptoms 3 months ago following said antibiotic treatment was INSANE bloating after everything, very pale colored stool, with intensely bad malabsorption. I started doing ACV pills prior to meals to support stomach acid, had done my best to relieve stress, and started taking bile salts as well. I've also been working on the "foundational" aspect you outline as the baseline such as nutrient rich diverse diet and chewing food. I've seen a pretty drastic improvement in stool color (we are back to brown folks!), and malabsorption has improved by I'd say 60% and seems to bet continuing to improve. Stomach gurgling after meals seems to be going down as well. (I forgot to mention I'm also taking megasporbiotic as well as a coconut kefir). That being said, bloating is still horrendous - like, I would say basically no better at all. And I'm still having horrible brain fog/difficulty concentrating/extreme fatigue,This is so frustrating to me, and I think as a result of my frsutration I find myself wanting to switch to killing herbs etc but I'm afraid to ruin my progress (the progress is basically the only thing I have keeping me from plunging into a full on depression over this right now). I guess my question is - because I'm seeing some progress, do you think I should just keep being patient with what I'm doing a bit longer? I so wish I could afford you at the moment!

What's crazy about stress. It's Gut-brain bidirectional. So even when I'm so focused on not stressing I'll get stressed from within. I know it's stress coming from my gut because it's stress that isn't induced by anything at all. My wearable tells me I'm stressed during certain times when I reflect back I'm like I was? Wtf. How to fix internal stress?

Yup. I've had hydrogen sibo (with fungal issues too) for like 25 years. I used to be able to run 40 plus miles a week up through 2017. But I quit for a bit, and have never been able to keep my energy level back up to do it regularly other then a brief stint this pas fall where it eventually started getting cold and gave up again. I'd do anything to go back to 2017's energy. The only thing that probably why I don't have that same energy is because I got a mercury amalgrams from the dentist ofc I went to at the time. My instinct was to run when I realized this place still used mercury fillings but I did it anyways. Had headaches for 2 months straight. And I've never been able to get back to running. So I'm guessing that the mercury is draining my body's minerals faster. I can't eat as much as I used to in 2017. And even then I wanted to be a triathlete, reduce my time in the marathon, and strength train like an animal but couldn't eat enough food to keep up with the calorie demand that would require. I've heard that some people have gotten their teeth redone at a natural biodentist and still had same issues so I'm reluctant and pay through my savings when it's unknown whether that will help. They say after ten years the drip is much less so maybe in a few years, things won't be so bad.

What are your thoughts on berberine? According to my research, it says it is anti-viral, anti-bacterial, and beneficial to gut health as it helps with SIBO and helps increase akkermansia muciniphila and other beneficial bacteria while suppressing pathogenic bacteria. It really sounds like a holy grail with ZERO side effects. Is it really that great? From your experience, should people be cautious with using berberine and with what dosage?

Carbohydrates lower cortisol as well as magnesium and B12. My appetite has been real bad lately and then I realized I hadn't been taking any magnesium at all. Also at the same time, I was looking at a forum discussion for a men's health issue (not the one requiring a popular blue pill but the one minute man one) and he said that he fixed it with high dose magnesium taking 1g up to 1.5 g at times and it took awhile for it to fix that because his body had other needs for the magnesium before it got to that area. Kinda embarrassing to mention but I know I'm not the only one.
I just had a random discovery about all the benefits of glycine. And I am fascinated as a whole for gut health and overall health. Glycine, chloride, zinc, hydrogen and choline are what make stomach acid. (Choline and glycine make betaine). Person with best glycine genes, makes 3 grams of glycine, person with the worst makes 0.2, and in the middle makes 1 or 2, I forget exact number.
There was a study which I don't have access to (they wanna charge me $30 to access) that determined that 15 grams was the optimal amount of glycine needed per day for optimal health (including the 3 grams if you make them genetically). The average person gets 3 to 5 grams of glycine from their diet. However, a hydrogen sulfide person like me might not be consuming near as much protein to avoid symptoms. Also it was concluding that the 12 gram minimum intake, assumed that you are a good recycler of glycine, but if you are not a good recycler, the need for glycine could for some reason potentially triple. Learned this from a RUclipsr called Slim Land. I'm guessing this might have come from the study that I don't have access to. But not sure. I'll write a comment on the yt video and see if he can tell me where the 36g came from.
Also wanted to note that glycine also has positive interactions with the sulfuric amino acids that feed the sulfur reducing bacteria. Methionine is known to be the bad amino acid in a heavy meat eating diet. While there are some good things methionine does, too much methionine can cause homocysteine to rise and high homocysteine levels can lead to all kinds of cardiovascular diseases. So it's been said that eating a methionine restricted diet can be better for your health and longevity. But consuming more glycine can offset the negative effects of methionine and lower homocysteine. Also, glycine and NAC have been studied recently as something that can raise glutathione levels to that of a 20 something person and reduce oxidative stress to a 20 something year old person and many other important health markers. I've heard of one hydrogen sulfide person taking small amounts of NAC and saying that it helped her. I would have though the bugs would have gotten to it but maybe the bugs don't like that form? Would be hella interesting to see what a combination of NAC and glycine would do to my hydrogen sibo or any sibo for that matter. Maybe I'm just a poor make of glycine and or recycler and that's why I have this illness? That's my current hypothesis that I'm testing on myself. (Glycine is very safe and has been up studied safely at up to 90 grams per day)
Also important note, glycine has been studied on schizophrenics up to 60 g (along with antipsychotics) per day and it has been found to improve symptoms. My mother is schizophrenic (hears negative voices all the time but does not harm herself or others) so although I've never hallucinated in my life (other then extreme sleep deprivation in college), wonder definitely if I have strange genetics where I need more then average person.
I took a gram of magnesium after realizing lack of magnesium probably why my appetite is so poor and right away I made myself two cans of beans and normally that would have potentially to bloat me up for days cause of low stomach acid and they especially cause symptoms cause of hydrogen sulfide sibo. I got the familiar sulfur gas few hours later but the weird thing was that I wasn't crazy bloated like I normally would be or at least not as bad. And the gas was signalling a movement, which I realized as soon as I got off the couch, and of course after the movement I felt even better. I'm attributing this to the glycine more so then the boost of magnesium I hadnt been taking but magnesium does help in that way (taking glycinate/lysinate combo of mag). I've only scratched the surface on the glycine experiment though. The most I've taken is 5 g at night and took 3g of glycine during the day. The first night I took, it was like my mmc's best friend. Everytime I moved it was burp and fart city. It let out a lot of trapped gas so I was quite thrilled. After that movement last night, I had another one this morning and my stomach doesn't feel as bad as it normally does but still not perfect. So I'm gonna continue with higher dose magnesium, and playing around with glycine intake amounts.
Have you or any patients had luck or played around with glycine before and had good results? Especially with hydrogen sulfide?
