No one thinks of copying the old photos until it is too late. My husband has been working for the last few years converting slides to digital photos and copying photos. Then periodically he backs it up onto a multi-terrabyte unit and stores by our son. Just taking photos of photos with your phone is easy and can be stored in a cloud. Please do it now, before they are gone.

Kurt, again as a bridge constructor and maintenance supervisor, a bridge may be closes that look ok. But an inspector may have already been there and closed. When you shot the water moving around the bridge pier aka sub-structure, that moving water can cause some major damage to that bridge you don't see at the moment. Depending on what type of piling is under the water, wither wooden or concrete, scour can take any of it. That is why you will see a lot of rip rap placed on banks of bridges to stop the erosion.

Thanks for the vids and info on the flooding. We’re not getting much news on the mess in Indiana. My wife is from Omaha and she remembers, as a little girl, helping fill sand bags to hold back the Missouri River from flooding their neighborhood. Stay safe, Kurt and thanks again from Indiana.

I work for a very large restoration company in Iowa and we are maxed out on water jobs and hiring outside temps and even pulling in other restoration companies from other states. It’s crazy. We’ve been told to not even bother our job managers since we’re in a cat 3. Will be for weeks. We had two hundred calls on Saturday alone. Calls are still coming in. Basement walls are caving in from the water pressure.
My husband has been watching your videos for a long time. We have 2 German Shepherds.

I live at Little Sioux. The bridges here are all open. The problem we having here with this flood is that we have a lot of water coming out of the Little Sioux River dumping into the Missouri. Both rivers are raising at the same time. So the water has to go somewhere so it is either north or south.

at 8.06 in your video you were just 1/2 south of my home the road in question was closed because the tube flapper was broken. water backed up 2 days Prior. The location you were the road closed west for the Rodney dike break caused a good share of the water to the west. the location you were at as of 9:42 tonight going around the signs you could still get to 6-26-24. hwy 20 is now open to the north at correctionville.

I live just south of Omaha in La Vista. As a child we lived in Blair. I have been witness to many floods in this area from the Missouri, Platte and Big Papio Creek. I understand the flooding, in the Spring with the snow melt and big rains in the the Spring. But I'm not getting why now we are having the flooding. Were there big rains up north that I didn't hear about? Is the Corp of Engineers sleeping on the job again? Aren't the dams on the waterways suppose to be controlling the flooding? I'm just not getting it this time around.

I live in upstate NY. When we have large flooding they check the bridges for washout around the bases . That could be why they aren't opening bridges where you are or, they want to restrict travel. You don't want to get people traveling to a town that was closed off only to find them trapped if/when the water goes back up. People do stupid things.Rescure teams don't want to risk their lives because stupid people got too close to the water

The Des Moines River in Humboldt just crested this evening 1.5 feet higher than the old record set in 1963. US 169 may be closed through town but the detour will only add about 5 miles. 169 was closed 12 miles north of town but it has reopened. Unlike Spencer and Sioux City we had plenty of time to prepare and we will not have the devastating damage those cities experienced. Saw pictures of Sioux City and the Missouri looks higher than 2013. Fortunately the flood waters won’t stay around for 3 months this time.
