Hey Mr Subaru! I believe on my 2020 WRX, the gear indicator does not show what gear you're in unless you're in motion and the clutch is fully depressed. It's probably the same on the STI.

I can confirm you are correct. Have a 2017 sti and it’s exactly the same way as you explained. Car has to be in motion for 1 through 6.

With a big spring lift, some bigger tires and a couple full size spares id use it here in Gunnison!

Don't drive anywhere there's potholes with those 19's. I just spent $768 to get 4 2020 STi wheels straightened and the tires re-installed.

Regarding gear indication, you may already know this so correct me if wrong (going by my 2017 WRX) gear indication comes up when clutch pedal is released (foot off), in gear and moving (most likely a lookup table).
Is the STI different here?
Eventually I want to transmission swap over to the STI so would be great to know this.

Hey Mr., don't toss the corner and fog lights. They'll be needed with the facelift bezels because those headlights don't have the blinkers in, just hi/lo beam.

Not needed on N/A engines. Just install a proper EL header for turbo applications. lol
I don't know if anybody is mentioned this yet but there is a recall for the backup light switch. My 17 STI that is also white LOL had that issue and it was replaced under the recall.

With the 18+ sti wheels you’ll need to run spacers w the 15-17 sti calipers
There’s a recall for the backup lamp switch for reverse lights, camera and shift indicator not working, Most likely that’s the problem there

Mr Subaru, I just got the Hazet 916HPLG and it is a beast of a ratchet. Question, the Tone flex 1/2 dr ratchet 24+ inch long you got some time ago, has it held up ? have you had a chance to put the torque to it ?
I'm fairly certain you know, but, just in case anyone doesn't, a fabric tape measure works amazing for unknown belt length. I use it when doing a/c deletes for various reasons.
A little bit of dawn and water with a scrub brush should pull that stain out. I'd use a shop vac to get the liquid out once scrubbed. If there is any left, Liquid Laundry soap/ stain remover and/or upholstery cleaner sometimes works as well. It kinda depends on what made the stain as to what works the best.
I mean...... the car "should" have a salvage title. At least the car is well documented on RUclips for whoever buys it next.
I must just be bad at finding good deals as sheesh .... I would love to get my hands on a STi project ... but still have plenty of other priorities... might I ask how you procured this one as it seems you always get good deals =)

The gear indicator only workis with the car running and rolling down the road with the clutch engaged. Believe it uses the gear determination thresholds in the tune and compares engine rpm and wheel speed. Rom raider and access port use the same point and can show gear on older cars
only displays gear while rolling, I put a WRX cluster in a XV Crosstrek and it even works. so its related to speed and RPM

Robert, Jay Leno has an alcantara cleaning video on RUclips that is dealing with much dirtier situations (Ford GT steering wheel) than yours, where he uses his interior cleaning products. In his video, he’s cleaning a $5k steering wheel and it comes out brilliantly.

As far as the gear indicator, when I had my 21 STI, i thought it didn't pick up 1st gear until the car was running and moving. Could be wrong since its been a bit that I have been in that car.
