  • Diagnosed with a terminal disease resulting in a constant smile, distraught teenager Aart Gellukig follows a path he knows has just one end: death…
Written in 2012 - before Willem Dafoe’s stupid work, The Smile Man - A Piece of Aart Worth Smiling At is a 2013 short film that premiered at the John Malkovich C.V.I. (f.k.a. St. James Catholic High School) Arts Festival held ten years ago.
The film follows Gellukig dealing with a diagnosis of fatal Syphiloid (not related to Syphilis, prob…) that causes a consistent smile and him revealing this awful news to friends and family - some “interesting” things occur along the way. The work received acclaim for its cinematography and editing - the tale is also notably displayed in a heavily surreal and ethereal fashion.
Created by and starring Eric Daniels, the film holds fellow collaborators Peter Wesley Salmon and Stuart Filson as cinematographers and editors - remaining crew members Jamie Schinwald and Marlee Rosa (credited with 2013 surname Lyle) solely perform acting.
Despite having a premiere in 2013, a wide release has yet to occur due to post-festival desired updates: until now.
We at MrTowelRack hope you enjoy this silly ride!
