I'm not a Hi3 player but coming from the HSR lore perspective: I believe IX truly was just passing by Izumo and didnt care about the conflict at all. Or maybe the world of Izumo itself ended up gravitating too close to IX's location. In other words the humans of Izumo fought so hard to win against the Kami but it was a pointless war because from the very start they were already trapped within IX's gravitational pull. As for Acheron, if she "gave in" to IX's influence then she would have instantly annihilated herself. I think the opposite happened: she found the strength within herself to defy the "nihility" of her situation thus becoming an Emanator of Nihility in the process, locked in a permanent battle against the Aeon on a conceptual level. As long as the defies Nihility, she will continue to exist.
yeah, I think this is the "lie" she said when asked. Though I think whoever is in the higher ups already knew about IX and lied to them as to forge a blade that can kill Kami (God) and hoped to defeat IX.
For the last line, somehow Acheron knew about the whole conspiracy/lie and decided to fulfill the role which she failed, "and yet" she continues to go forward after becoming the emanator (perhaps after trying to slash IX) as so what happened in Izumo isn't for "Naught"
For Honkai reference, I think this is a parallel on what if HI3 has a bad ending. Where the "Kiana" of this world is killed or something? That's why End/Finality is just a big sword or looking like a graveyard of swords.
This was truly a “Humanity shall defeat the Kamigami” moment.

Second... for people who get offended by us honkai impact 3rd players for noticing the reference... let them be offended. I for one isn't going to tip toe around sensitive people... they are never happy and I'm not responsible for their reactions.... they are, they can control their emotions and not get offended by us referencing what we see. That's my take on it.
Also Alien Space is probably after Welt and V.A. left the HI3 scene... HSR has to take after Alien Space.
imo aeon ix isn't actively doing anything to acquire acheron. it was just standing there.
the two stars, izumo and takanahara, were just unfortunate enough to be caught and started circling around ix, and was sucked in closer by the day
takanahara (kami planet, parallel to honkai beasts) was closer to ix than izumo is, so they invaded izumo (futuristic japan with bushido, when izumo fighters absorb takanahara power they become oni, a reference to mantis, kevin is the "white hair oni") to get away from ix, to survive.
the reason why acheron say they had been fighting a lie is because both planets were eventually consumed by ix regardless of effort. so it was a meaningless fight since the beginning.
from the moment these 2 planets were unfortunately caught in ix's vortex, they were doomed.
it is unclear whether this kevin was the one controlling the end blade that acheron had to destroy, or that the end blade was just a spirit adam (oni version) created by kevin that acheron had to defeat but this kevin wasn't actually physically present in that scene. (tbh, we don't even know if this kevin is even inolved in these 2 blade's creation)
regardless, the end result is both origin and end blade are gone.
it is also unclear whether acheron used both finality and orgin (splintered) to form Naught
OR!!, and i think this is more likely: it's her complete, almost Buddhist enlightenment state of "nothingness" that reforged her broken sword INTO "Naught", by giving up everything, her horns, her identity, the color of her world, her past, her humanity, her purpose etc.
she created "naught" and did a single slash against ix, which is a reference to Ei's MUsono hitotachi.
MU means "naught/no", ei's ultimate is called "the single slash of NO thought".
we were left out of the final result of this slash, did she severe izumo from ix's gravitational pull? or did she killed her own planet to spare it the fate of being absorbed?
and lastly the pv's japanese name 一刀两断, is also a reference to mei's HoT ultimate voice line when she jumps down from the dragon.
Amazing analysis!! But i would like to say that the final slash probably let to nothing. From the pv we see Acheron slahing IX and then there is this black planet(sun) and around the graphic representation of a war with the 12 swords, and finally everything gets absorbed into the black sun. So I would speculate that even though Acheron slashed with Naught, IX was just napping minding his own business and did a little oopsie by consuming everything.

Regardless of what happened after, that "slash of no thought" seems to represent her transcendence (I really dig the Buddhist angle of "enlightened void" here), and perhaps passive acceptance by IX leading to her ascension to emanator. I def lean towards IX being a kind of egoless participant with no particular agenda, just (figurative and literal) gravity. I hope we'll find out what actually happened to Izuma.
@@upguess5360 i heard a cool theory that the last slash is her erasing history, cause all this was meaningless and last scene with IX and whole history of the planet is like last moments before erasing. Erasing it with Naught, she gave up her memories in human form and her oni horns, cause onis never existed(also her red sword looks like oni horn) and thats why she don't want to unsheathe it, cause she has power of erasing existence with a slash. This theory is based on this: "Izumo's history should have been a long flowing river, but it was severed in one cut, and all its past and future voided on emptiness' other shore." from description on animated short. I don't know, maybe thats a reach, but it sounds cool 😃

We definitely need more HSR reactions from content creators who are already super familiar with HI3 lore... it's fun when discussions and theory-crafting is done when certain things are referenced between the 2 games. I never played HI3 beyond the tutorial so I always get hyped when I see HI3 lore-masters or players geek out every time they see direct references to HI3 lore in HSR.
Now I understand why her name is Acheron / Yomi, because she herself became the Netherworld herself.
To be fair. Acheron is the river that leads to the netherworld. And Yomi could also refer to that. but it could also just mean the netherworld itself, as you pointed out.
I don’t think it’s the ‘netherworld’ but rather nothingness. Both are vastly different. Ix is paralleled with an ocean with tides, thus Acheron is the waters upon which guides unfortunate people into nothingness.
It’s also lore that Nihility unknowingly spreads across the universe through Self-Annihilators.

I started playing in Honkai: Impact 3rd because of Star Rail and lots of memes about Himeko. I wanted to know what's it all about and... Well, I just can't stop playing HI3rd now. And all gods, how good is this trailer!
I coudnt get into it cause I prefer English VA in my games. But I made sure to start looking up the lore and story, I gotta say GOD I love Mobius

From what I am interpreting and understand from the trailer, the Kami are at the same time a parallel for Honkai, but they’re also not Honkai. From Izumo’s perspective, the Kami are viewed like how the Honkai are viewed on Earth, but unlike Honkai, the Kami are their own individual existence. After you see Acheron use her “life”, casting it away in order to create “Naught” (for those who don’t understand, “Naught” as in “It was all for naught”), she aims her blade towards the black hole in the sky. The Kami were defeated, but everybody and everything that Acheron lived for on Izumo was also gone. Humanity, oni, kami, all of it was reduced to nothing. So with nothing left to live for, Acheron decided to end it all by making the black hole swallow everything immediately, which is what you see at the end of the trailer. All of Izumo, it’s history, existence, everything, was swallowed by the black hole.
The Kami weren’t evil for the sake of being evil. From what I can infer, they too were trying to find a way to escape from the fate of being swallowed by the black hole. Both Tamahagara and Izumo were planets orbiting a black hole, and both of them were destined to disappear. No amount of fighting would have prevented this. This is the “lie” that Acheron mentions. Everything they did was “all for naught”. Everything is going to be swallowed anyways, neither side of the battle wins anything. It is probably at this point where IX’s gaze falls onto Acheron and she becomes an Emanator.
The 12 Sentinels aren’t the only parallels to 3rd Impact present here. Multiple parts of the backing track directly reference Honkai World Diva. The melodic reference isn’t there just for the sake of being cool. Remember the meaning of Honkai World Diva?

I’m pretty sure these lyrics speak for themselves, but the beginning of the chorus especially is poignant and ties directly to the story of Izumo. Not only is this part of the chorus the specific melody that is referenced in the trailer, but “Crimson moon shines upon a town that is smeared in blood” is recontextualized in order to represent the black hole, looking down upon both Tamahagara and Izumo, broken and destroyed, “smeared in blood” from all of the senseless conflict. The second chorus of the song also puts this idea into clear detail.

The Honkai verse isn’t a perfect story. The first few story arcs of Honkai 3rd Impact aren’t as polished as later chapters, and I seriously question a lot of story as well as gameplay-design choices made after Chapter 25 (looking at you Elysium Realm), but when this story hits, it absolutely hits.
(P.S. This is just my conjecture and interpretation, you’re all free to come to your own conclusions about the story in this trailer, I don’t claim to perfectly understand what’s going on here.)

Personally I've never played HI3, but I don't feel like I'm missing out just playing HSR. I enjoy hearing the parallels from HI3 players and am watching lore videos to catch up, since I don't plan on playing HI3
Yeah the lore video's are a great way to understand the basics of the story. The official Honkai Chronicles are also pretty entertaining too
Star Rail player here who is literally just wetting his feet with HI3 ( Chapter 2 and 1st phase of Story 2 done ) - this is great I love more lore... if you don't understand, research and learn. Lore can be amazing and more is always better. It feels like an alternate universe and I wouldn't doubt welt crossed over. The story for Acheron here 1000% connects HI3rd this might be a Bad End reality in HI3rd. I wonder if Acheron is a Mei who crossed over into HSR from a "Bad End" reality and while welt crossed over from a "Good End" reality.
Ye this is like if Kiana didn't save Mei at that time, this would be the likely outcome. The really bad end for Hi3rd world

As someone who hasn't played HI3rd, I'm so glad I found your video. Even if the references of the swords to herrchers are just references, it's so cool. You're right about the alienating thing, but I genuinely love discovering the connections between games, even if I'll never fully understand HI3rd

I also liked how Death and Rebirth showed the white silhouettes of Seele's familiar, and Maw it looked like Corruption's eye in the gap of the blade. But one final thing everyone doesn't want to realize is that Himeko probably died in this universe too...

Well, I want to say thanks to the youtube algorithm for helping me find this video. It's really interesting, especially for an HSR player like me, who has only played the early stages of the game HI3 until "the final lesson".

As someone who got into Honkai through HSR I kinda want to chime in on those thoughts.
The thing that is off-putting from an HSR perspective [for me, not all] is that sometimes it feels like Impact players are ignoring so much directly in front of them in order to see something they want. It feels like they aren't allowing the HSR characters to be themselves, and are forcing something else onto them. And yes, it does feel alienating on top of that because from someone in my position, I don't know and can't relate to any of it.
That being said
I love learning more about it over time. Each time a new trailer comes out, or character; you hear references being discussed and you slowly learn more and get to feel ever so slightly more included.
So don't feel awkward for mention it, talking about it or comparing it. Just, don't lose sight of the fact that HSR cast are their own characters as well, don't toss out all the hard work and love those characters and their stories earned, for nostalgia. Enjoy both.

I too, feel that connections should be made when they're a certain degree of obvious, but if there's no connection, then forcing one is kinda out of place
personally, i like it when hi3 players talk about hsr and make references. even tho i dont play hi3, i feel it is interesting to hear about how the lore of this game connect to others, i love the sense of nostalgic and excitement in their voices too!

With regards to your comments @9:16 about HSR only players feeling alienated or left out, I mean this has been directly addressed by Shaoji in both 2.0 & 2.1 live streams stating the explicit connections between HI3 & HSR and that they're both a part of the *Honkai Universe*. Shaoji's even addressed as a *Honkai Series Writer* so given this, and Welt being the very same from HI3 and the other myriad of parallels presented in HSR, HSR players need to accept that naturally HI3 players are going to get excited when parallels/references are made because that's exactly what the devs intended to do... Shaoji states this very thing on the live stream while also reassuring HSR only players that the game can be played completely independently.
TL;DR: I don't think you and other HI3 should feel reluctant/afraid and hide the fact that you love both games and can appreciate when the developers include nods to the very game that laid the foundation for this universe. Fanchuan also mentioned during the 7.3 CN Livestream that the HI3 & HSR writers work together to form a cohesive Honkai Universe.

The order of the swords matches the awakenings of the Previous Era.
In the video's description, they go into detail of what the swords do, and they are basically the same as the herrschers.
As someone who also played on HI3rd JP until HoV came out and jumped on to the SEA server day 1, I really hope that we eventually get to Earth somehow

Izumo have really tough luck, they faced a honkai like threat (Kami) and on top of that IX was nearby so all of their resistance is for naught.
Earth was so lucky to only have the Cocoon of Finality to deal with and doesn't have an additional variable or in this case a freaking Aeon to cause an already hard fight into an impossible one.
So it is Dr.MEI becoming Mantis and Kevin becoming Project Stigmata Kevin of the Finality.
So no Elysia and Kiana to save the day. Thought - does not look like they could change anything, because planets were orbiting around IX, so does not matter if humans or honaki win - IX would erase them all eventually. So Mei became Self-annihilator to destroy IX.
The very beginning of Genshin Impact now makes a lot more sense to me, since the second sword here we see smashing Akivili’s Star Rail
As a HSR player who has only played the start of HI 3rd, I love to know more about the HI3rd lore bc of who intriguing it seems so hearing people who knows the HI3rd lore gives their point of view about certain things as there are references to that same lore.
Also the fact that Welt is a character that traveled worlds to HSR and we have Seele, Bronya, Acheron and other characters in the future that are like an alternative universe version of HI 3rd characters and the amount of HI 3rd references are enough to be interested in it.
Also @12:46 given how it has the 2 whiskers like ancient chinese dragon depictions leads me to believe that it's a dragon and therefore referencing Kurikara, which imo would make more sense given practically all of the references in the animated short are for HI3.

There was a little bit in the video's description, and it contains more details. I don't play HI3, so I don't know if the black sun was relating to the HI3 or not. But in my interpretation, the black sun might be what caused Kami to descend in the first place, and that black sun might be IX.
If the concept of IX is nihility, my guess is that it will slowly transform stuff (object and otherwise) into nothing. I think Acheron was powerful enough to withstand IX's power, so when she unavoidably stepped into IX's shadow, she became self-annihilator unwillingly instead of turning into nothing. My guess is that might play into HSR's story in the future, in a sense of Acheron's reason to come to Penacony.

nice video and it like to say there is nothing to apologize for having more honkai experience than the average player base. This pv is a loveletter from dev to the veterans and there is payoff for sticking with a story long enough. Glad to see that.
what I understood here is in the end in HI3 Mei and the other defeated the badguy then Happy ending... but in the HSR version Acheron was alone with the others not existing or being dead by that point.. so she had to fight alone and in the end after defeating the badguy no happy ending only Darkness....
As a HSR player, all this trailer did was interest me in the honkai impact lore. The world seems fascinating and I really want to know more. I don't get why some ppl are being weird about impact lore but it's the interent so i'm not surprised that someone will get offended by something... cool vid :D
Yk how it's mentioned in hi3 how there's also other worlds that got destroyed by the Honkai? I think this is one of those worlds. Shaoji already confirmed that hsr is within the hi3 universe and Welt's existence is also a direct connection. Welt also talks about how people with similar looks (expys) walk similar paths and Acheron here seems to be following the path of fighting against the Honkai except in this world Kiana is either dead or didn't exist to begin with

They defeated the kami(honkai)and manage to rebuild their civilization in less than 8 amber eras only to be swallowed by ix in the end which mean all the sacrifices,history, suffering disappear and become meaningless..IX does nothing,it just that both planets were unlucky to be orbiting IX
Can anyone explain in 6:23 when they were holding the swords, the other swords turn into the enemy hands. The same amount 6 swords became 6 shadow hands. Do herrschers become corrupted without the MC or something or did the MC do something to stop it in HI3 since I didn't play it. Also at the last part 7:42 wasn't that the thunder sword that's supposed to be hers too since she was holding it? Why is it with the enemy in that last part towards the left.
The TL;DR version is that Herrschers are actually chosen individuals who have met certain criteria, to govern a certain aspect of the Honkai's power.
They would generally enact the same will, which was to destroy the entire civilization.
There were 12 Herrschers excluding Origin and Finality.
HI3 lore actually spans over 2 eras.
In the Previous Era, a scientist called Dr.MEI found a way to turn Herrscher cores into weapons to be used against the Honkai. These weapons were called Divine Keys.
The sword in the video are parellels to the Divine Keys.
In the Current Era, they found a way to wrestle the host's consciousness away from the control of the Honkai, essentially allowing them to directly harness Herrscher powers without having to first kill them.
As for the corruption of the wielders, in HI3, the Valkyries use Honkai energy to fight against the Honkai.
Some who don't have enough Honkai resistance either get killed by the Honkai energy, or succumb and become Honkai zombies/beasts themselves.
I'm guessing the Kami had a similar effect.
i guess in honkai star rail there is basically one extra "herrscher" being Naught/nothingness and that is what Acheron currently is, though she is probably an emanator since Herrscher isnt really a thing in this bubble, is my take away
Also the description of the video does go more into the aspects of the swords and pretty sure even the couple that are less direct in terms of the mirroring of the 12 keys have enough detail to fit each one
As someone who didn't get into HI3, I personally appreciate that fanbase's takes on this trailer. When I first watched it, it seemed pretty cool, but wasn't as impactful as others because it felt like random little bits of lore. But with all the theories and explanations from those fans, it added a lot of useful context to this short. So, thanks!

hey great reaction. I just wanted to say in regards to the last scene with acheron and "white haired onI' asking why the swords were forged. She stated it was for a lie, meaning that their entire fight was pointless because the two planets were always doomed to be sucked into the black hole (that may or may not be ix). Once she realized this, she gave into nihility and became an "emanator". I also think it was her slash at the end that devoured the entire planet. She just destroyed everything because it was pointless anyways.
Also...there's a text document or post on hoyos site about the self annihilators. It seems (at least from my understanding) that ix is not outright granting his power to these people but when they fall into despair like acheron did here. They are almost created by accident? (i think)

hi! I don't know if it's a translation error, but in the portuguese official captions for the trailer when they mention "two bearers" in portuguese they say "duas portadoras" wich specifically means 2 female bearers

Previous era called it End, while current era call it Finality.
PE is End, and CE is Finality. Still the same Herrscher with the same powers though. One was born a God from the CoF and the other born a human clone that ascended to the Finality.

I’ve always wondered about acheron being an emanator of nihility because if ix’s whole thing is like viewing everything as meaningless why would they go out of the way to make someone become an emanator of their path
I think it's more like Acheron chose it herself rather than IX choosing her. Maybe IX functions differently when it comes to it's Emanators.
Well, it's like another story about Honkai, but with the bad end.
The whole thing feels like an alternative ending of the story if Kiana was corrupted by Finality instead of her becoming a Goddess.
I mean, she would be a Goddess either way, just a good or a bad one. Although the Kami are described as evil while the Honkai isn't actually evil at all. CoF just comprehends the universe differently than mortals do.
