  • At least Metallica started a trend, the other bands just followed the ”new” trend 1-2 years later 😎 They all changed after the black album… More or less. Only a few songs here and there was thrash metal. But for some reason its always been about Metallica?
Anyway I stil love all these bands, even If I think some of them changed just because they wanted some of Metallica’s success 😘 Or because their labels told them to ”slow down”. Don’t get me wrong: I like most of these albums in the 90s (Not ”Risk” and parts of ”Diabolus” though)

to be fair, Testament would follow this up with Low, which had a ton of heaviness and even had some death metal influences to it

Sure they did. But to be fair: Do you think Metallica would get away with that? If they made a thrash album after the black album people would just stop calling them sellouts 😉 Not so sure. I love all these bands though, but they stil all changed at the time.

@@JohnnyRockG I would have considered a buy-in on their part
I didn't consider the black album a sell-out as much as a slightly failed experiment. The album had to win me over over the course of 91 and 92. It has some of my favorite Metallica songs, as well as a bunch of filler that padded the runtime.
