Counterswapping assumes one HUGE point. That you're equally proficient with all characters. There are no magic buttons that allow one character to insta kill another, there are no "hard counters" in that way. And frankly the most toxic part of the game is people who just won't shut up about changing characters to "counter" when they don't know how good/bad you are at them. If you feel you need to swap to improve the chances of the team winning, go for it, and if you don't like that about the game then yeah, that sucks. But everyone needs to shut up about others needing to swap when they don't know if it'd really help or not.
One tricks have little to no value in OW2 anymore. So it doesn't matter if you're significantly better on that hero and majorly outskill the other tank, now in OW2. Counterswapping is too strong.
That's the problem. You don't have to be that efficient with the counterswap for it to still work extremely well. You can be dogshit but if you swap to Reinhardt, Brig and Mei when I play Zarya it still will be very hard to do good against. To the point the less skilled player wins just based off the swap. This wasn't as prevalent in OW1 because we had a second tank to make up for the other tanks weaknesses.
@snvcchs Hard countering is honestly an issue in all roles, but it definitely hits tanks the hardest. I like Flats 7vs7 proposal. 3 DPS, 2 Sups, and 2 Tanks is probably the best balance given both the need for role synergy and the popularity of DPS.

Imma be real; I took a month long break from this game and when I came back I loaded up qp with some friends and had a buddy on tank, started on Doom. (You know what's coming). Won the first team fight. Entire enemy team swapped. Orisa + Sombra + Cass + Ana + Zen. That is the casual, non-serious, gamemode in 2024. They ended up C9'ing to kill our friend who'd swapped to Rein by the end of it (and promptly got them to swap Bastion + Mei). I unironically still believe comp is still the most chill place to exist if you want to actually have fun.
To be fair, when I see a Doomfist on the enemy team, I‘m also counterswapping as soon as it‘s clear they are even remotely capable to use the character. Playing against a good Doom or Ball is just so annoying. Being able to stop them in their tracks lets me play the game.
This was the inevitably result of teh 5v5 role-lock paradigm Blizzard locked OW2 in. With only 1 tank allowed, that tank always has to be irregularly high-impact, and thus the game naturally becomes tank-centric. When the game becomes that tank-centric, it is in players’ best interest to focus their efforts on invalidating the enemy tank, thus counterswapping. Counterswaps have always been a thing since Day 1 of Overwatch, but there was never a time where doing it was so prominent because players were never so heavily incentivised to do so. They are *now* because if you full-team counterswap and wipe the enemy tank, you basically get a free teamfight off that in a lot of cases. Role Queue and 5v5 are the roots of this problem.
One suggestion to fix the counterswap problem i think is they could make it so if you swap you cant switch for a certain amount of time or deaths, means whoever counterswaps first gets punished by the other team doing the same thing.
my friend and i played a game yesterday where a duo lucio soldier spent the whole game chasing me down as hanzo/widow that my i just ran away and wasted time so my team won fighting 4v3 the whole game!
No that mode is fucking ass, what’s the point of mystery heroes if you want to queue up for a certain role, just play regular qp, that’s basically mystery heroes already
The worst part is in overwatch 1 you could still just outplay the counter swap. Now if the whole team switches to counter (which they do lol) You cant outplay that
I would be fine with just the enemy tank countering me. But when the entire enemy switches to counter my mediocre Rein shenenigans, then we got a problem.
I played a game last night where I would say the tank me were of equal skill level but every tank I picked he’d even run back to spawn to pick the counter.. I decided to take a break from overwatch.
It's the inevitable 5v5 problem. Tanks will constantly switch which makes the experience awful for everyone involved. If you get countered as damage or support the other damage and support can peel for you and you can pop off, but no one can peel off for a tank lol.
The worst one I had was when I was on Junkertown and I was playing rein on defense and the game had just started. I see the enemy walking out of spawn on Dva, when he directly turns around and switches to Orisa not 3 seconds after the game had started...
Genuine question here, not criticism, but why do higher level players always capture points late? I understand makijg space is important but around 2:03 Flats was in Primal against the whole enemy team and none of his teammates went to capture the point whilst he distracted and it led to the Genji being able to contest when they almost captured?
I think tank damage should be reduced, but they should get cooldown reduction based on damage taken. Like every 10% of their Hp they take, they get like 5% off the CD of an ability. Getting a quarter of your CD off when you get chunked by 50% would be kinda fun. Would make them more tanking focused and less damage focused too.
so many games I start off as winston, I dive the enemy squishies and continiously kill them and they just go reaper, bastion, brig and hog and it's joever
They should make a lock in mode. No swapping. Play your best character for that map or strat ahead. Then beat the enemy team by your hero mastery and team play. I'd love this in qp
@@Shiftarus You can make it like League where people pick their hero's one by one or in pairs. That was you can somewhat counter. But the issue of tank is still there. Cause you decide to pick dva first, and the enemy picks zarya, and you can't do anything. And there are no items or builds, you're stuck with the kit. In League every champion can counter eachother in some way because they can build different items. While in OW it's just champ diff and there's absolutely nothing you can do. So either way, I agree horrible idea
I genuinely think we either need 6v6 back, or we need to make it so you can ban certain characters, like each person can choose a character to ban for both teams, or make it so you only have like 3-5 swaps per game so that you have to choose wisely and think if its worth it to swap
Getting flamed for swapping in QP has been WILD. Like no I'm not going to sit on a hero that is getting hard HARD countered to the point where I'm 1-6 for 10 mins of hell??? But also It's boring as hell to just keep swapping. I hate rolling out as widow, they swap to Sombra, I go Cass they go 76, I'll go Junk they go Pharah. 90% of our play time is just swapping. Never ulting, never having fun.
Honestly I like to think I'm a pretty okay Doom player sometimes, but seeing you play Doom (a character you claim to not know how to play well) is interesting to look at. Because my "playing well" and your "not playing well" for a character is still leagues off in terms of skill and gameplay. There's a lot of things I wouldn't think to try as Doom that you do
see this is the one reason i enjoyed 6v6 a little more, team comps were just much more interesting where as now they feel stale and countering is much more shallow than what it was before
They should add a limit to how many times you can swap to a different hero Like I dunno, five times? It would force teams to actually think before they assemble a comp or strategize variations and counterplay
Wouldn't really, would just punish you for not going in as a full stack, Is it a team limit? Per person? And if either, what happens when you're out and you're team is now just obectively bad vs theirs because you swapped first?
jeff and company explicitly advertised this game with counterswapping. people disliking it just now because tanks have to play and live/die by it is so funny because theyre not even the first ones to be forced to swap between heroes
Counterswapping ruined the fun in this game for me, honestly. I liked how you used to have more flexibility with your team comps, and even if your comp wasn't optimal, it was still VIABLE. You said it best before: It used to be Chess, and now it's just Checkers. This game has become a decision every game to either A: play the heroes I like and try to have fun; or B: counterswap to heroes I don't really care for but know will give me a better footing in the match. Unappreciated role queue mystery heroes casually having a solution to make counterswapping less of an issue.
At the cost of queue time, why not just make a guaranteed 1 character on each role
No that mode is fucking ass, what’s the point of mystery heroes if you want to queue up for a certain role, just play regular qp, that’s basically mystery heroes already
The og mystery heroes was fun but also super annoying when the enemy team would get all tanks and yours would get only DPS and supports 😭
Knock backs on Winston really make no sense, Brig bonks you TOWARDS the place you're leaping to, and then REMOVES your momentum? Come on, Blizzard.
its always nice to see you get a taste of my life as a doom main :) you did good
even in the metal ranks it be the same
The Brig in the first match had rent due YESTERDAY.
"what has counter swapping become?" It became what blizzard leaves it at, dogshit
The worst part is in overwatch 1 you could still just outplay the counter swap. Now if the whole team switches to counter (which they do lol) You cant outplay that
going out of your way to not only leave your team unsecured and jumping off the map just to counter pick is WICKED work
Bro instigated the swapping and calles the other guy dumb😭😭
I would be fine with just the enemy tank countering me. But when the entire enemy switches to counter my mediocre Rein shenenigans, then we got a problem.
I just wanna charge swing hammer and have fun
Does anyone know the music at 9:25 ? It feels like it might be from Pokémon but I’m not sure
Love the dk music when you switched winston
8:26 bro just experienced the average doomfist moment and didn't start tweaking props
I for one have 6 posters of who to counter swap to in rotations incase I need it I just look over and I know who
The worst one I had was when I was on Junkertown and I was playing rein on defense and the game had just started.
This is the reason i dont even want to touch comp. This is just straight up a game of rock paper scissors.
Unironically, the new mystery heroes role queue is the best way to play tank right now.
Counter swapping sucks but remember, its not the players fault. Its blizzards for making it so strong.
If you can't win your counter you shouldn't one trick
I love counter swap because it tests my skill
@@Bad3abdulthere is no skill involved with picking the right hero
@@Bad3abdul Worst take I've read today
@@MeepFromSpongebob so if you're a dva who plays into zarya counter(numbani, Hollywood second point)and wins that's what?
@@phantomflame0658 if you believe so ok
those rank games were crazy man
The change to DK music when swapping to Winton had me dead lmao
I think tank damage should be reduced, but they should get cooldown reduction based on damage taken. Like every 10% of their Hp they take, they get like 5% off the CD of an ability. Getting a quarter of your CD off when you get chunked by 50% would be kinda fun. Would make them more tanking focused and less damage focused too.
Who knew buffing tanks would lead to more counter swapping. It’s either you do or you get rolled.
the queen jumping off the map to counterswap zarya is enough evidence that counterswapping is broken
They always do this is QP too its soo cringe.... I can never truly enjoy playing the heroes I want
so many games I start off as winston, I dive the enemy squishies and continiously kill them and they just go reaper, bastion, brig and hog and it's joever
or the title could be: "The counterswapping situation is crazy"
Everything was wrong with 5v5. They almost won not because of skill just counter picking.
LOVE THE FZERO THEME SONG!!!
The 6v6 trial period can't come sooner
They should make a lock in mode. No swapping. Play your best character for that map or strat ahead. Then beat the enemy team by your hero mastery and team play.
I'd love this in qp
But then somebody would just be forced to spend the entire game in a horrible matchup just because they lost a prematch game of rock paper scissors
@@Shiftarus we don't think like that. It's an opportunity to shine lol
@@Shiftarus If the balancing team shared more than half a braincell collectively, his idea might have some potential...
name of your next video "Tank is a Stressing Experience"
Warioware while playing Doomfist went hard af
People love playing counterwatch
@ 8:44 welcome to the squishiest tank that gets counter swapped THE most in the game
this is one of the many reasons i like paladins you cant swap mid game
I genuinely think we either need 6v6 back, or we need to make it so you can ban certain characters, like each person can choose a character to ban for both teams, or make it so you only have like 3-5 swaps per game so that you have to choose wisely and think if its worth it to swap
We won’t see widow, sombra in teams lol
Getting flamed for swapping in QP has been WILD. Like no I'm not going to sit on a hero that is getting hard HARD countered to the point where I'm 1-6 for 10 mins of hell??? But also It's boring as hell to just keep swapping. I hate rolling out as widow, they swap to Sombra, I go Cass they go 76, I'll go Junk they go Pharah. 90% of our play time is just swapping. Never ulting, never having fun.
I love the DK SONG SWITCH on winton W haha
this is why i dont play tank anymore, you need to be good on all of them man
U did it first 😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡
They rolled out on Zarya
They also killed themselves to counter play, he is swapping for the dps too
@@Akira.0. he killed himself on rein so they wouldnt get ult charge from him
@@douan6363 in a fight that was lost vs abandoning a fight that wasn’t
6:27 bro says it, it’s not cuz of the tank it’s cuz he wasn’t getting any value as the other heroes so he made a swap to get value, not to counter
Honestly I like to think I'm a pretty okay Doom player sometimes, but seeing you play Doom (a character you claim to not know how to play well) is interesting to look at. Because my "playing well" and your "not playing well" for a character is still leagues off in terms of skill and gameplay. There's a lot of things I wouldn't think to try as Doom that you do
Bro you were the one initiating the counterswap
Love your vids Flats
"What has counterswapping become" and its just flats aggro swapping
see this is the one reason i enjoyed 6v6 a little more, team comps were just much more interesting where as now they feel stale and countering is much more shallow than what it was before
They should add a limit to how many times you can swap to a different hero
Like I dunno, five times?
It would force teams to actually think before they assemble a comp or strategize variations and counterplay
Wouldn't really, would just punish you for not going in as a full stack, Is it a team limit? Per person? And if either, what happens when you're out and you're team is now just obectively bad vs theirs because you swapped first?
If you don’t want to counter swap when they come out on a counter you go something with a neutral match up and then just hope they stay the same hero
haven't watch, but already know its a banger!
Real😭😭
Huge W for playing bayonetta ost
jeff and company explicitly advertised this game with counterswapping. people disliking it just now because tanks have to play and live/die by it is so funny because theyre not even the first ones to be forced to swap between heroes
Ngl the Bayonetta music during the mid battle took me wayy off guard, unless it’s like a smash bros playlist lol, love all the vids tho
From now on everytime i win a fight on tank im going to retreat to spawn to counter swap their counter swap
It sucks.
Had a game yesterday where the enemy team kept switching characters to counter me and a tracer until they decided to go 4 tanks 😂😂 we lost but it was the most funniest thing ever
I don't understand why people are crying about counter picking when it has been a mechanic since 2016. The first rule I had learned was to switch the winston when they had a reaper 😂
I just wanna play the hero i like, but thats pretty damn hard when they choose something that makes my hero essentially unplayable
Hey flats love your content keep it up broo 👍👍👍
god this just continues to remind me why I stopped playing. all the cc and I can't play majority of the tanks I want to because of it.
This this is why I hate what the game has become. No longer about just having fun. Either you swap or you get run over game after game.
today I played against orisa, torb, reaper, bap, zen. most miserable time on tank ever as a diamond
Before the midseason patch I could pick Rein into Orisa and demolish. Now it's back to being tossed around and exploding.
They counter pick, I mirror, they counter pick
