      +mercoid I dunno, I'm not wholly convinced. Don't hipsters have this annoying habit of saying they had/did/liked things before they were cool? Which is exactly how he explains how he has so many rare parts.
      Nice car and amazing scenery, though.

    • @flat6croc
      @flat6croc 9 лет назад +13

      +EastStandManc Sure. But this guy seems to have a bunch of Porsches and Porsche parts that you'd think he'd struggle to acquire at today's prices. So maybe for once it's just the simple truth. He was into it before it got really popular and the prices went nuts.

    • @mercoid

      True, that's a solid point. Maybe it's just Porsche-envy on my part skewing my view of him, lol.

    People like this guy are gonna start a trend of grungy cars. Like people who look for really old vintage in its original state, untouched cars like these will be desirable.

    • @madfiat8932
      @madfiat8932 9 лет назад +3

      +Axel Nussbaumer It's been a trend for a while. It's not uncommon to gently wash the rust/flaking paint and then clearcoat satin over it just to protect the patina. You can always tell when they do that though. Great to see a true, honest, evolving patina. So many spend tons of money to preserve the "zero f*cks* look that they lose authenticity.

      In the seventies and into the eighties people drove old rusty cars... not anymore and were lucky if they last 10 or 15 years.

    This is what the old car hobby is and always should be about. Its about bringing something back from the grave, giving it a new life, and then enjoying that new life together. Its WAAAAY to common to have shows always be about the money, flipping, and investments. I HATE that aspect of about 95% of car tv shows. I am not really a fan of Porsche cars, BUT what I am a fan of is this guy's attitude! How much money is your classic worth?? WHO CARES!!

A double thumbs up to this wise young man. ;--} >

    “Just get it running. Drive it. The time is now!” I really like that and the car. I have a ratty old 71 Dodge Polara and I was enjoying just driving it but then an electrical gremlin got into the brake lights and they didn't work %100 of the time. My brother does the mechanical work to keep it going for me but after many attempts and new parts he gave up on it. I took over and after much troubleshooting somehow got the old parts working after the new parts proved defective. I got it to pass inspection and was driving it again but then the exact same problem reoccurred. I was so disappointed and frustrated that I've just let it sit for a couple of months but this has inspired me to go at it again.

    Coming from videos where they restore these to perfection the first thought that occurs is "holly monkey, he's killing it",
    but then you sit back and watch the video, and you see what his thinking is, you see what he's doing with it you enjoy also enjoy a very well put video with a lot of awesome views.
    And then it kicks, you want these running, whether on one end of the spectrum or the other, you just don't want them in the middle, IE someone butchering them or someone parking one in a barn until old age and rust destroys it.
    And then it's all ok.

I live in an area full of Rubicons and TRD Pro’s whose tires have never bent a blade of grass and this man is driving along the ragged edge of a mountain and on to the top in an almost 70 year old Porsche so small I could reach out the window and strike a match on the pavement. And I always notice when I’m at car shows there are people who brag about how few miles their cars have (which is a damn shame) whereas the old Porsche folks are like idk the odometer broke maybe a decade ago around 70K and they’re currently on a 10 state road trip

My father made me sell my '60 Roadster after I got a '64 SC in 1969. In the late '70s I saw one in same metallic gray at a rural gas station for $3,500. I used to love to tell him when the prices get to $10,000, $20,000, $30,000 and hear him groan.

    How many people watching this video did a google search to find out this Porsche owner lives in Auburn, California and are now planning a trip there in the hopes of casually, coincidentally, just "totally accidentally" bumping into him in the parking lot of Whole Foods while you are "just wandering through" his neighborhood at which point you will remark that you really like old Porsches with patina and you have plenty of extra garage space and you would "totally give it a really good home" but of course "you're a starving student on a really tight budget" (or some similar age appropriate sob story) in the hopes that he'll take pity on you and appreciate your passion, love and admiration for old Porches with lots of patina and thus sell it to you for a great price well below its market value?

    I love this guys attitude. Everything he said was awesome. "It's worth an endless amount of money to me or it's worth nothing at all, if I sold it I would just use the money to get another one so why sell it" It's a lot easier to restore something than it is to put 30 or 40 years of real patina on something. Great video thanks for posting as usual.

    What it's all about. F the money; F the "prestige"; just drive your damn Porsche. At 145,000 miles, I beat the crap out of my 911. Rain, snow, sleet--whatever. Strangers actually COMPLAIN when they see it dirty or me driving it with two feet of snow on the ground. They simply don't understand. The sense of "connection" between driver and machine is unparalleled. Its more "feel" than speed that holds the greatest attraction. This video epitomizes what owning a Porsche is all about.

    As for me, what's truly against the grain is keeping a sports car polished inside a garage or showing off at sterile meets once in a while.

    This is the total epitome of exactly what it means to have fallen in love with the emotional connection with driving. Find it, live it but most of all DRIVE IT! Hands down, one of the best stories you guys have published. It's pouring down raining here in Dallas and this just made me crank my BMW E24 up and get lost!!

    If this dude had a motorcycle it would totally be a 1950s BMW R50 and be covered in rust and patina from sitting out in Northern California field exposed to the elements for like 5 decades and he would put a trailer hitch on the back of the Porsche so he could tow it around behind it and the sight of this beautiful old Porsche and the BMW at the same time would give certain Porsche/BMW enthusiasts mixed feelings of envy and admiration. Some would even chase him down and try to buy both as a package deal.

    I have always had this love hate relationship with beautifully restored cars because they are so perfect and mint but at the same time, i somehow feel like it has lost most of its charm. Its chips and dents are part of its character and what it has gone through. This is why this video and his car is so special to me. I think Mater from Cars 2 said something about enjoying and keeping the flaws? Something like that?
