    I went from 19’4 to 22’11 in one year with learning the long jump technique, and im only a 11.2 sprinter. I think you’ll see a similar quick progression since you’re even faster and just naturally athletic. Sending prayer for your dad and Arcadia student’s family as well🙏🏻

      @@cinnamon5974 when you start your approach build up your speed and by the board you should be speeding up and stay tall. Take off leg should be right under your center of mass and you want to roll off the board with your foot rather than stepping straight down. Practice your technique and arms in the air, and set up a landing that you can sweep through. Landing takes a lot of technique and its where you’ll separate yourself from the 19-20ft range to the 22-23ft range with a good landing. Let me know if you have any more questions my man

    High jump!! Let’s go!! Biggest thing is to start to understand how to run the curve. Running a good curve is how you generate good rotation over the bar. Circle runs are a great way start.

    Cody, this is awesome. I was a hurdler in college from 2012-2016. I took a five year break from the sport, and then started competing again last year. I added two new events last year, the long jump and high jump. I had never attempted jumping during my high school and college years. It's never too late to try new things!

    Hi there. I coach long and triple jump in college so I can give you a couple pointers on those. At first glance, the first thing you have to do is get tall off the board (in long jump), get full extension of your limbs and full range of motion.

    • @ATHLETE.X
      @ATHLETE.X  2 года назад

      Good for you Trackman! Make sure to build up your training into the jump work as it can be very stressful. Rudiment hops, mini-bounds, jump rope, etc should be used for a while to build up the tissues and then you can start adding jumping drills and progress to short approach jumps from a few steps. Over time as your body adapts then you can add a long run up.
      I’d suggest drinking a collagen and vitamin c mix around training and even other times of the day so you’re helping nourish the tendons. Also, isometric holds can be useful for tendon strength.
      Check out some podcast by Keith Baar on tendon training!

    • @ATHLETE.X
      @ATHLETE.X  2 года назад +1

      I think I’ll talk about this in one of my next videos. Briefly though I’d start adding in different plyometrics on a soft surface like hops, bounds, single leg cycles, left left right right bounds, etc.
      Build up your body’s ability to handle the collisions and get comfortable being elastic, then I’d add in some drills to practice penultimate & take-off steps. You can add in short approach jumps from a few steps, adding length to the run up if your body feels ok.
      The biggest concern is that if you progress too quickly to full approach jumps your joints and tendons are gonna get smashed. So we want to work up to that over time rather than just go HAM from day 1.

    could you go into detail the difference between Lactate threshold, Speed endurance, Speed and special endurance. And do you think that tempo has a place in a high school sprint program, if so can you go into detail about that as well.

    • @ATHLETE.X
      @ATHLETE.X  2 года назад +1

      That’s a good idea Aaron, thanks for that, I’ll try and make a video on it. I think some amount of tempo is fine, especially in non-competitive periods. I do turf runs with my team like perimeter runs (walk across, run the length), 100 yd down & backs, 15-20 second runs in a big oval on the turf, etc. I don’t go crazy with it, just use it early on for overall conditioning (tissues and aerobic system) and then for plan B workouts when people don’t feel good later in the year.

    Do you, as a coach, see any sort of parallel with long jump and sprinting for performance? I'm a varsity high school sprinter and just hit 11.7 in the 100m earlier this season and I was wondering if you think working on long jump will also help with my sprinting. The reason I bring this up is because some really fast sprinters (Marcell Jacobs, Carel Lewis, and even Matthew Boling) seem to be good at both events. Obviously when you have a world class athlete like that, though, their pure athleticism may be the biggest factor in this feat. Despite that I've been wondering if adding long jumps to my regimine would help me run faster. Would it be worth it?

    Hey Cody, will you try to learn the hitch kick? I know there is a lot of hype around it but I am very eager to see how you will go on about learning the long jump and triple jump. Personally I used spring board to get more air time and focus on cycling the foot and learnt the hitch kick.

    • @ATHLETE.X
      @ATHLETE.X  2 года назад

      That’s a good idea with the springboard. I did some hitch kick drills and am going to continue to try and learn the technique, and then add it into my jumps once I feel I can do it. I think it will help me avoid forward rotation into the landing.

    • @ATHLETE.X

      Yeah bench can affect overhead mobility. I think if they’re trained concurrently though you can hold onto mobility. Just have to incorporate work to maintain your mobility as you also do bench.

    Wassup Cody. I love your videos and have gained a lot of knowledge from them over these 2 years. As I’m looking at my videos, I notice that my heel tends to slaps the ground even when I run dorsiflexed. This causes my entire legs to to collapse more when I make ground contact which I know is causing more ground time then I need to be spending. I am fairly strong in all areas of my body but I really don’t know if my calves are strong enough to withstand the force when swing my legs down. Is there any videos or drills that you have to compensate this issue?

      If you want to call the King James Version of the Bible misquoting then that’s on you. So many examples that Jesus is God the son, the son of God.
