Yes, it will but you must set the jump up so that you can impart enough vertical velocity at take-off. Plenty of take of drills off medium to long approaches will help as well as eccentric and plyometric conditioning. Good luck
Sir my best is 7.73mts many say i have a poor landing means i have a good travel for 1st and second hitch kick but iam dropping my body all of sudden down and land soon can you give me a solution for this
The pulling of the foot back increases acceleration through the take-off. The problem is that trying to do this "deliberately" at take-off is too late. Think about trying to hit a return in tennis when the ball is a couple of cm's away from the racket - you can't react quickly enough to hit through the ball. It's similar with the LJ take-off, so the skill has to be automatic - set-up prior by the penultimate and hip position. Now I advocate that the foot travels low onto the board, some coaches ask for a step-down - with the step-down there is more chance for the foot to come back to the board. the method I tend toward means that the foot "shoots" forward more onto the board and there is perhaps more of a block (although not a major one)... and there should still be a backward movement (the foot should not be out in front of the centre of mass of the jumper at take-off...). I hope this goes somewhat at least to answering the question. As with the sprint start there are different techniques... do feel free to ask for further clarification. Thanks
John Shepherd track & field coach - author & editor Thank you very much for the concise explanation. Is this also the case in the triple jump take off or is it different due to the longer contact at takeoff ?
Are you referring to the hop??? If so, it's more of a push, but proceeded by a running through the board. There is virtually no specific set-up (apart from arm action) when compared to the long jump as speed through the take-off needs to be maintained for the two subsequent phases. Some coaches will advise on the push, although, I think it's more of an effort to fully extend off the board through the hop leg. There must also be great hip displacement with the free leg... getting that hip forward, and away from the trunk (which should be upright). On the step and jump landings, here the contact can be more active. Now, again there are different ways to do this... a number of Teddy Tamgho's squad and the man himself, for want of a better description "smash" the contacts i.e. really pull the foot back to the track to initiate contact. Many more jumpers are less active and smoother. I can only go on what I have found works with the jumpers I have and that's to be smoother. If they try to be much more dynamic this seems to throw these guys out of rhythm - however, I can see why the French guys in particular are trying to generate more force. Very powerful jumpers may find it easier to really wrk those ground contacts... Again, I hope this helps.
Michael Hulme it was at the track... we have thought about making one - would need strong timber and an old track remnant... we do use gym mats indoors, although the drill needs to be done in trainers.
It's to help learn not to prepare on the penultimate step. The idea is to run onto and off the step as if it's not there. You then lightly go flat-footed on the pen step - this movement allows the hips to move through the take-off and set-up a better take-off. You can do the same without the mat. I'll place a mark on the track surface for the jumper to set the pen step on. But as I say in the video in most instances it's best not to load on that step as it kills potential speed into the jump. Hope that helps.
Again thank you for very high quality! Really helpful!
Great video! Seeing the video breakdown is very helpful to see. Hopefully these videos can get me to the school record mark next year.
Good luck, and if there's anything specific you may want to know more about do post a question.
Very good video creation.. I give clear view .
Fascinating!
Sir,Your Videos are very Helpful🙏🏾, I'm a speed jumper..Does the flat foot technique helps?

Might start to give me an understanding.

sir i want to come to you for training
Flat foot or toe for run?
Front third of the shoe/foot. Toes should be up, so foot is.
Just a friendly reminder to remind you to explain why some athletes pull the foot back in the step before ground contact.

John Shepherd track & field coach - author & editor And is the triple jump take off a passive run through, or is there a more aggressive push?

John Shepherd track & field coach - author & editor Yes that's what I meant. Thanks for taking the time to answer
where did you get the platform?
