I never understood the overly obsessive bed decoration with lots of throw pillows, extra decorative blankets etc. i just want sleep in there and not have to shove all those (dust collecting) throw pillows on the (dusty) floor and then go through all the rigmarole of making the bed with all theses extras in the morning! Just give me nice duvet covers and pillows for sleeping and I’m good! I do like to have some throw pillows on sofas etc. one way of reducing the the storage space of decorative pillows is to use the Ikea version: buy one set of pillow inserts and get only covers for different seasons! So much easier to store just the covers!
Realizing you wear the same 20 clothing items over and over makes it easy to realize you already have a capsule wardrobe you just have a huge clothing museum.
I think culturally it’s frowned upon to wear the same things over and over, but I thrive on it. I have several basic pieces I just mix and match regularly and I like that. It stresses me out to have to dedicate time and effort to getting ready, so it’s nice to have a closet of basics I can throw together and be able to dedicate my time and energy to things that actually matter. Thanks for validating, and glad to know there are more of us out there who feel this way!
I'm in New Zealand. One year I wore the same navy blue skirt and cardigan every day to work. I just changed the shirt a few times. (Kind of like how I guy can get away with wearing the same suit). I was awesome. Not sure if anyone noticed. I wish I'd bought about three more of that skirt and cardigan. They got completely worn out.
My job has a uniform and I only have three work shirts and three work pants. I still have more clothes than I would like but it’s quite a bit less than a lot of people. I can’t stand too much of anything.
Loved this! Whenever I use the term, “dust collectors,” people always look at me like I am crazy. I am so happy there is someone else out there that sees knick knacks the same way I do. Thanks, Kallie 😆
The library has been a game changer for me. Toy library, book library, event renting dresses for specific events. Less time, less money, fewer single use toys, books and clothes to manage
Taught early childhood for 40 years - child care and public school. What you are saying about toys is SO true. A few open ended (kids can create with them) toys is so much better than a bunch of random toys. 😊
I love your presentation style. No excess words, to the point, and very good information. That’s why you are one of the few you tube channels I regularly watch. Keep it up.
Kallie! You are the first cleaning/organizational RUclipsr I watched. I will continue to watch you; you are wonderful!🎉 The favorite thing I learned from you: "Do something now that your future self will thank you for." ❤
This video has made me feel so seen! I completely agree with every single point you've made. I'm at the same point in my life where I'm pregnant with a toddler, with no help from family, nor can afford to buy and I'm just trying to scale down on everything I can that'll make my life easier. I feel like many if not all of my friends are not at the same point in their life so they might look a bit weird at me for talking about this stuff, and recently I've been feeling like maybe I'm wrong. I've been following you for years now and I love you realistic view on life and your values. It makes me feel much better that your values align with mine and makes me feel like I'm not alone in my journey.
You go girl! Same place as you! I’ve been selling a lot of clutter around the house 🏡 or baby items I know I won’t use with the second child. It’s freeing!
I was in the same space I had a child at 17 n now at 53 have a 34 n 30 year old n a 12 year old granddaughters. I have friends who have 6 year Olds. It will be fine. U do u n dint pay attentioto what everyone else is doing. U are focusing on a baby tbeu are not
I can relate! I still have a lot of things hanging around that I don't need any more. I'm retired now, so I never wear the jewelry I wore to work or the clothes. I live in jogging pants and t-shirts. Would I like to be more stylish--yes, but know one ever sees me! I go to the grocery store maybe once a week and a yearly visit to Dr, dentist and eye Dr. , And church when I can get a ride. I don't go much or do much. In the summer I walk a lot, but in a 6 block radius. No real need to dress up or look stylish!! So all those things I spent all that money on to look good for work, are now irrelevant!!
I so admire your ability to cut back on things, buy or not buy items, sharing ways we waste time, money, space. It is all so practical and yet you are not depriving yourself or your family of anything.
Love this so much! I’ve been slowly getting rid of so many toys. I’ve noticed my kids would rather play with buckets of water, draw in a notebook, build with cardboard boxes. They find stuff I already have at home and enjoy those things way more than their toys. Makes my life much easier and clutter free!
Exactly! About a year ago, I purged about 60% of my kid's toys, and honestly, it was the best thing we ever did! They can find and use what they actually like snd my home is so much calmer and my kids are so creative. We make all kinds of things from cardboard.... doll houses, alien planets, space ships, pirate ships, air planes... so, so much.
I feel so validated for not having any rugs in my kitchen. From a decorative standpoint it feels like something is missing but, especially with toddlers, so impractical.
I also took out throw rugs. Then we downsized to a condo on a slab. I now put down like a rubber/ gel type mats. It really helps my feet. They are really not pretty at all.
I really like this video! One thing I really hate is running out of anything that I use on a regular basis. I don't (usually) buy random stuff, but I have two of everything I use, like laundry detergent, deodorant, etc. When the one I'm using runs out, I start the second one and put it on my list and replace the second one when I go to the store. I absolutely despise!!!!! going to the store when I wasn't planning on going because I ran out of what I need. If I need to, I will mark the lid of the container I'm using, so I won't use both of them at the same time without realising it. The only thing worse than running out of one thing is running out of two at the same time!
I'm going to use this video to help me sorting out. I don't have small children any more but I do have too many ornaments and jewellery and clothes I hated or don't fit (until last Monday when I did a wardrobe purge). I'm going to have the odd ornament to make the place look nice not tonnes of them. We are selling our home so I'm getting rid of a lot of mine and boxing up a lot of the kids ornaments that they can't get rid of because their late Grandma bought them for them. They can then decide if they'd like to keep that in their space or in the loft when we move or if they can part with them.
Totally agree with throw rugs, especially rugs with fringes!. I have never understood why anyone would put a rug underneath a dining table. I have a great quality runner in our hallway with a foam pay under it. The rug does not move, is easy to vacuum and keeps the hallway quite where all the bedrooms are(we have hardwood).
One of the things I started today is I closed my Amazon account, I was spending way to much money and it’s easy to do. I agree on everything you said. Great video ❤
Amazon is evil! Like a siren luring sailors to their deaths 😂😂😂 One of the best life choices I ever made was dropping them. I just couldn’t stand there business practices and how they degrade our society. Good on you! Amazon is just so ‘convenient’ that walking away can be a really hard addiction for some people to quit and you just pulled the plug and walked away! No one needs their BS anyway. Be really proud of what you just did! 💯🎊💝
I love this! I totally agree with excess stuff just adding to what we have to manage in our homes! I do feel like I get stressed then about adding anything to our home or buying new things, not knowing whether it will add value or just be a waste like other things I’ve recently decluttered. I would love if you could do a video about things you consider/think about before making a purchase to hopefully make sure it’s something that will add value, even if it’s not an absolute need!
Simply brilliant! I totally agree with all your suggestions. In particular breaking the habit of having a lot of shoes to match varying outfits - My shoes end up piled on top of each other (colour coordinated of course!) but ultimately a total nightmare 🤯
I realised a few years ago that my shoe collection was getting really out of hand. I did a big cull and since then I usually buy, if I need it, flesh-coloured or nude shoes for spring/summer styles (and trainers/sneakers) as they literally go with everything, and neutrals for autumn/winter shoes and boots. That way I only need, for example, one pair of flat nude sandals, one pair of heeled nude sandals, one pair of nude trainers, and so on. It does mean I have to search a bit more for the right pair when I need them but it has really narrowed down the shoe cupboard! I do still have a couple of colours in my winter shoes (dark navy and black usually which are neutrals) as I wear blue jeans a lot and black trousers, but since I live in a city with no real snow and not a lot of rain in winter, my winter shoe cupboard is minimal.
I don’t call myself a minimalist but I own 5 pairs of shoes, 2 summer, 1 winter and my gym shoes. I wear 4 dresses on repeat in summer 😊 I’ve culled my accessories to 2 pairs of earrings and spend almost no time getting ready in the morning. I use our local library which also has an app for digital and audiobooks which we use all the time. It was never my intention to become a minimalist but I’m finally in that sweet spot where I can manage my inventory within minutes. Truly life changing and I have so much spare time now.
I am definitely a bookworm & love books. However, I am also extremely particular about what books I buy & add to my collection. It needs to be something I will re-read multiple times so I actually don't have that many. What I do is make heavy use of my public library & inter-library loan. It's great since I get access to tons of books & I don't have to worry about storage or maintenance. If I find myself checking a particular one out a lot, or always wishing I had it on hand to read, it goes on my to-buy wishlist. Otherwise, I can read it once, return it to the library & be done with it.
Using the library is hard for me, because I'm a hermit and hate leaving my house. I really should get more into reading e-books (where I don't feel a need to hold the physical book in hand). The library is definitely a good resource in this case!
I love books and even after I got my Kindle (2008) I still had 7-5 shelf bookcases full. It took me a lot of time to let go, but now I'm down to two shelves and that's for my favorite author. Even so, I find I have to clear out my Kindle every once in a while. I just mainly keep the favorites that I know I will reread and those books that I still have to read. I listen to audio books when I walk my dog. Really should do a clear out of those libraries too.
At 11:22 when you talk about high-maintenance clothing items something else to consider is what *undergarments* you need to wear with clothes. I got rid of all my tops that require a special strapless/seamless/halter/asymmetrical/low back-strap bras because that is too much hassle 😅
#5:04 food. Since i was a young adult till now 50yrs old i have always streamlined the food content at home breakfast lunch dinners. My fridge looks fuller at christmas Easter or Bithdays but generally i got less inventory in food cupboards fridge than other ppl i visit. I’ve received comments before my fridge looks bare 😂 (but family members and guests always get fed without complaint of hunger )
This is a great video. I especially need to work on not having excess food. My partner and I really struggle with it and I feel like we are always finding something in the back of the dang fridge to throw out. I am streamlining my makeup. I don't even wear makeup every single day anymore but I don't need anymore of anything! I was pretty proud of myself the last time I was in Target because I bought ONE Lipgloss. Sure I have lipgloss but I was almost out of my favorite when I bought it. I'm making myself wear the heck out of this lipgloss to justify the purchase to myself. Haha now I'm pregnant for the first time and I'm sure I'm going to have to come up with a system that works for toys! And just all the baby stuff. I definitely need to go through the books. Great video all around 🥰
When this happens just opt out for tinned foods / dried food or stuff ! This will last forever rather than fresh. I always buy small fresh foods and more tinned / dried goods and sea salt / UTH milk etc more so now with a war ahead !
I did this with my lotions and makeup early in the pandemic. I mean, I don't even like lotion, so why was I hoarding so many bottles/tubes?! And as for makeup, I'm actually allergic/sensitive to most eye shadows, so I tossed all my palettes (I didn't have many, but they were still taking up space) and individual shadows, eyeliners, etc. that I just never used. Now I have only the basics. I need to go through my bathroom cabinet, though, because I know there are nail polishes and other bathroom items that I never use that I could also get rid of.
Loved the video .. especially the part where you talked about decorative items on flat surface. I have two year old and second baby on the way, in my situation I hate these decorative item in flat surface. But Instagram says you need them to make your space look picture perfect. I am so glad somebody out there who think these decorative items are useless.
Have you considered renting a special occasion dress? I had a friend who used to go to "events" for her job and that is what she did. I have bought evening dresses used and resold them at a consignment store for what I paid, once even for more.
I have got rid of so many dusty shoes I have not worn since our office went jeans every day. But I know I can still get it down further. I have so much costume jewelry that is not worn with jeans and t,s. I think this will be a great weekend organizing chore just to declutter.
I caved in to Hello Fresh because of you and holy ish!!! I hated meal planing and cooking before and it became like a cooking class with out the wasted time and overwhelm feeling of looking at recipes. ON TOP of that, it is SO true that we spent and wasted more when we stopped the subscription. We were mind blown. So we got back on it ❤ we skip a week every now and then if we want something special we thought of or we leave town. It’s amazing. I don’t dread cooking now and that is a huge part of being a SHAM! I can now do more with my son, skipping the grocery more often than before, I can do projects around the house. It’s been amazing 😊
I'm not a fan of Hello Fresh (just wasn't impressed with the vegetarian choices in my city), but there is a fantastic salad delivery service here that has branched out into a few sheet pan meals/sides and breakfast items. Their salads are amazing, and all ingredients are packaged in a separate sections so you only use the stuff you like. I rarely leave anything out, but now and then I'll skip things like onions, and of course any non-vegetarian that comes with the salad (usually bacon). As soon as the weather gets warmer, I'll be signing up for them again. They're so wonderful in the warmer months and I'm with you - I absolutely hate cooking! I figure if I spend less on groceries, it's worth it. I always have so much food waste!
How in the world are you spending less using Hello Fresh? Have you ever broken down the price and compared it to the grocery store? HF is exponentially more expensive.
Really good advice! Shoes are my biggest clutter causing item. I also want to try the food buying advice. I can't believe how much food gets lost and goes bad in my fridge!
Throw pillows... I had some. They were constantly on the floor. It used to drive me nuts. I gave them away, but one, which I use when I sit on the sofa. Noone complained or even noticed.
I have found that my kids play with the empty containers of their bath products instead of toys. Its also much easier to keep mould free than bath toys and they can play with the water. We do not have alot of toys but my son will also play with the same ones over and over and not at all with the rest. I never really bought alot, most was gifts or second hand but its worked out well because now I can see what is engaging for him and what not, and only focus on that. I also agree with your list, especially beauty products. In South Africa they are really expensive so I also just have one of each. Thank you so much for all your hard work, I really love your videos and they have helped me alot with my own home.
Thanks Kallie! 😁 I agree with a lot of these things. I did see a video in the last year or 2 of Wayne Goss and how he buys his skin care. I've started doing this too. At the end of every year, buy the skin care you'll need for the year! That way you're not buying something to try and have more excess. If it works for you, get it in advance. I've incorporated hair care into that too and for the kitchen, buying extra pasta for those times when you 'don't have anything to eat' Thanks again Kallie for your tips! Can't wait to see baby #3 🍼
Throw pillows are good for short people. Don't get rid of them all. As a shorter person most lounges or couches are uncomfortable for me so a throw pillow behind my back is so much easier
I agree about beauty products! I would tend to get caught up in the search for the next “miracle product.” But, they never really were. I pared down my routine to the essentials that I know work for my skin and have stopped experimenting- it is so much easier this way!
Sometimes the simplest beauty and skin care items work the best! For example I use a combo of a spoon of olive oil, sugar and coco butter to make a great body scrub. Costs little and works great! Good quality makeup and skin care doesn't necessarily mean "expensive"!
We got rid of bedroom throw pillows. Literally spent more time taking them off, finding a clean place for them, and putting them back on. We never look at them. Now they live in the spare bed for guests to enjoy 😁
Totally with you on pillows, rugs and things on surfaces! I never got the mountains of pillows thing. I'm still working on the clothes and beauty products!! So helpful, thank you
I have a 2x3 kitchen rug at the sink area, it’s useful in catching water splashes. I kick it to the stove area when I cook, it catches the oil spatters.
I got rid of the throw pillows on my bed and it shaves off a good few seconds ot make my bed and looks so much better. Then, for the couch I only have 2 because we use them to lean on and if I have more than two they end up on the floor. I also have different covers for different seasons.
Regarding books - my husband and I have been making an effort to take the books we don't want to keep to Little Free Libraries in our area, or just being really open to loaning them to family and friends without an obligation to return them. We still have a lot on our shelves, especially series and kids' books, but we've gotten better about not having multiples of the same book, or keeping books neither of us really loved.
Loved this video and the energy behind it! I implement a lot already! Food overage isn't even a goal, at this season of my life, with a husband, daughter, and 4 ravenous teenage boys🤦🏾♀️🤣 One day...I will again be able to buy 1 loaf of bread at a time🤞🏾Kitchen and bathroom rugs...I OVERstand👌🏾Tyfs❤🙏🏾
Great video offering good advice. I have to deal with lots of pain from a bad back so I have streamlined my life using most of the suggestions you have offered. Not only does it make life easier and saves you lots of money but has helped my OCD and anxiety issues. Please keep making more great content.
I also suffer from chronic back pain. It makes cleaning and tidying so difficult. What I'm trying to learn from Kallie is to create habits where I'm tidying/cleaning as I go, rather than letting it pile up and then feeling overwhelmed by the amount of work (and also, I can't tackle that amount of work at once, so I can only handle a few tasks before my back needs a rest).
Love this video. Little tip for kids toys- most kids are more interested in a toy on a shelf if it’s not completed. So the puzzle and carrot toy in the video may seem more inviting if we take the pieces out and put them in a box or basket next to the board.
Great ideas. I am doing most of these things but thanks for the your suggestions! I buy used books either on Discover or Thrift books. But I do need so weed out and donate more- everything!
I learned with throw pillows, I just get covers when it comes to seasonal stuff. We do use our throw pillows, but don't like storing the seasonal ones as they are so bulky
Wow, I’ve always thought that you were beautiful, but this is the first time I’ve seen you without any makeup and you are a natural beauty. I watched another video earlier tonight that had you in another person’s video. You had on those pink ear phones and you were talking about the Best Buy’s at Amazon for under $20. You were glowing. Pregnancy really suits you. I’ve heard of pregnant women having a glow about the but I had never seen it. Good luck with handling three babies. I know you will do well because you always stay on top of things. Thank you for sharing your life with us. ❤ Congratulations 🎊🎉🎈🥳🍼👍
We’ve been doing a lot of this over the past 6months or so and it has been so great. A lot of practice and getting used to but when we follow through it has been so great :)
My youngest is 7, so I don't feel like I'm quite in the same season of life as you, but I agree with all you said. We have 4 kids and so much clutter. We're working on it. 2 of my children are on the autism spectrum and another has extreme ADHD. I work 2 part-time jobs from home and my husband works full time outside the home. I'm exhausted from everything and I really like your philosophy about things taking up too much time. It's very true.
I feel like I follow pretty much your advices. I have a pair of shoes for every season. Winter boots, running shoes, rain boots and one pair of sandals. For kids, I keep clothes from the oldest to pass on the youngest. A couple of pants and shirts, that’s it. The only people in my home that gets a lot of wardrobe changes are the kids since they grow up so fast! I will wear my things until they fall appart. I am slowly working on better quality for me than the kids. They can wear 5$ walmart tshirt since they will grow out of it in a month, but as an adult, I don’t grow up anymore. I can spend hundreds on the kids but have trouble spending for me. I get cheap clothes that I have to buy over and over again. The toys are driving me crazy! They don’t have much, but bigger piece that takes a lot of space. I told grandma, next year we won’t buy toys. We will get experiences to do together. I am sick of picking up toys and hurting my feet when stepping on it!
I like this! I only have one throw rug now, in front of the front door and a cushioned mat in front of the kitchen sink because it feels good when my aching feet are busy at the sink. I also quit using throw pillows. They weren’t worth the time and effort.😂
I have a pair of boots for dress. I have narrowed my shoes, don't wear makeup ot Jewelry hardly at all. I do have to much hair care products. But going to on declittering more and be more streamlined with things.
I agree completely about home decor items cluttering up one's living space, especially little items. They seem to get knocked off and broken easily and are hard to clean. I don't buy new ones but somehow they keep showing up?
I had to laugh at “no throw pillows “ 😂. Obviously you are tall, but I’m under 5ft. I only have a few throw pillows in my house for back support. It helps me sit closer to the front of the seat so my feet have a better chance of touching the floor 😉. Now to re-evaluate my 100 scatter rugs 🤣
I down loaded my books from the library onto my iPad phone or tablet never any overdue books because if you forget to reduce they take them back or someone else as requested and I take them back back again and if you can’t find what you want in e books You can still go get the box in hardcover or paperback. You just have to be able to go pick him up.
Agree girl. I have also scaled back wardrobe and make up. Recently went to an event and guess what, found a dress in my closet that worked great. Love saving a buck.💵💵
I need to let you know that your heated brush rec from a while back was brilliant! My gray bushy hair finally has the perfect tool. I love both your recommendations of items to ditch AND those to pick up!
Wow, this is me almost to a 'T'. Some rugs but not in the kitchen or dining room. Kids cleanup toys from the time they are able to. Not much decor because they take up precious time cleaning and moving around in order to clean. Stopped with the extra food when our economy tanked and prices sky rocketed and even less when I changed my way of eating to Carnivore. Throw pillows, only a couple where I buy cover ups to match the season. They fold as nice as a pillow case. I am not a big book reader anymore. I read what I need online. Never was a huge makeup and 'skin care' person. I never got why people wanted to put all of those chemicals on to seep through their skin. I'm pretty good with not having too many clothes that I don't need or use. Never was a huge accessorizer but did have a problem with shoes, namely sneakers. this all makes me seem plain and uninteresting but that couldn't be far from the truth and you would never know that this is the way I live my life. What I am saying is that you don't have keep up with the Jones's to be beautiful and fulfilled in life.
Great video and you always just keep it simple and straightforward. I am guilty of earrings. This year I am on a no buy for jewelry and makeup. Use what I have and then when it’s done. Stop.
Every December I look in my bathroom and inventory. There are usually several products I won't have to buy for the whole year. This makes me use them up. This year it's perfume, conditioner, shampoo and deoderant.
One thing my kids loved was lego's , they would put them together as instructed but later dismantled and put together whole new interesting looks which kept them engaged for hours
Could not agree more! I hate throw pillows. (New couch came with like 8 of them! Really? 😂) And I have switched to only using the library for books. I like a “paper” book and hate reading on a device. But I would buy books and not read them. Now I treat myself to a trip to the library when I have some down time to read!
I also love paper books, however, I’ve had to learn how to donate them once I’m done and I do use my Kindle more. One thing I recently started using is the Libby app which allows me to borrow books from my library both audio and for my Kindle. There are sometimes waiting lists for a few weeks and then when I get them I may only have 14 days to borrow them. I prefer to use the app for audio books (not all books are available this way). Thanks for your suggestions. Some of them make me feel better about myself because I don’t own a lot of different types of clothes or shoes and use the same bag for everything, so now I don’t feel so out of style, I’ll just say “oh, my organizational person gave me the idea” 😂😂
I’ve been guilty of overstocking food .. then you need the room to store it. Just started reducing it and feel so much better about it. Not likely to starve !!!
I did this a year ago and love it! I don’t waste anywhere near as much and it makes figuring out what to eat so much easier. I’m lucky that I seriously have 6 grocery stores within 3 miles of my house, so I can always go get something if I really need it, so I don’t have any real need to over stock.
Thank you for doing this! Curious how you handle gift giving? People (aka family) often want to buy me or my kids a gift for birthdays, Christmas, etc. and this is where I typically accumulate excess. How do you manage emotions of family when you really would rather not have “things?”
If they ask for suggestions, it’s helpful to have a few fun ideas in your mind that aren’t clutter, but you’d like and they would like to give. Example- tickets for events or amusement parks. A title of an actual book or cookbook you’d like to own. Your new favorite scent from method, or Mrs Meyer, or bath and body ( however you feel, if you use that stuff) simple but useful items you’d appreciate Edit - if they don’t ask, it’s hard 😢
The one thing on this list I don’t agree with is books, BUT that is because I am not only an avid reader, but an avid re-reader as well. On average, most Americans read 12 books in a year (5.5 books if you stipulate reading from start to finish). I typically read more than 100 books in a year, so having options that I own is a worthwhile investment for me. It helps that I have a dedicated room for books in my house with plenty of shelf space. It’s my sanctuary, and I love it!
I’m not a big throw rug type of person but I do have two anti-fatigue mats in my kitchen- one in front of the sink and one in front of the cooktop. Our floors are ceramic tiles and just too hard on my back and hips for standing on for extended periods cooking or doing dishes. I also keep a well stocked pantry and fridge/freezer. I don’t want to be caught without enough food in case of an extended illness or bad weather. In January here in Texas we had an ice storm, everything was closed for 3 days due to a half inch of ice on everything, some areas lost power. I was glad I had enough food and didn’t need to leave the house or go hungry. But maybe it’s just my age and how my family did things growing up 🤷🏻♀️ I am guilty of having excess books, but I love books so I’m fine with that 😂
Couldn’t agree with you more on books. My family is full of voracious readers, and while we do make use of the library often, I grew up surrounded by books and full (organized) bookshelves and it benefitted me immeasurably in so many different ways. My husband and I call ourselves minimalists with everything BUT books! In my opinion, a house without a full bookshelf just looks sad.
It's not hoarding if it's books. I love my home library shelves, gives me pleasure just to look at them. I had a great library when I lived in NY and could get any book I wanted. Now live in rural Florida and my libraries are lacking. I buy used bookd from Thrift Books or Better World Books that are cheap and excellent condition. I donate my excess to the library.
Thanks so much Kallie - i was going to buy a consignment store dress for a friends bday party but i was convicted to wear something i already have !!!!!!! I might need a new pair of shoes though lol (i live in Michigan and my friend is in Miami so it’s for a good cause !)
Trick I learned from a friend about throw pillows: get pillowcases to cover your current throw pillows instead of extra pillows for seasonal decor. You don't end up with 20+ pillows and it's a lot easier to store them at the end of the season.
I felt this video to my core. I recommend the library. If your library doesn't have the book you want another one usually does and it ships to your library no charge.
It's crazy to me that people buy extra or excess food. I only buy essential food primary because that's what I can afford. If I get an extra pay (it's a month with an extra week) then I'll buy Ingredients to bake things and dessert and stuff.
I love this. Thank you for the concept. I def have a clothing museum!
My mom has used that term my whole life. She hates “knick knacks” and forbade me from getting them for her. 😂
In India, we def have a saying that I heard a lot as a kid. “We are not getting that- it’s going to sit and EAT DUST.”
So! Normal! 😁

Ha! I was looking for this comment…thank you for sharing!!
(excess) beauty supplies
Ty
The library has been a game changer for me. Toy library, book library, event renting dresses for specific events. Less time, less money, fewer single use toys, books and clothes to manage
What do you mean by a toy library?
@@megana5658I want to know this too. I need a toy library!
You rent toys we had one in my hometown but it went out of business
Taught early childhood for 40 years - child care and public school. What you are saying about toys is SO true. A few open ended (kids can create with them) toys is so much better than a bunch of random toys. 😊
I love your presentation style. No excess words, to the point, and very good information. That’s why you are one of the few you tube channels I regularly watch. Keep it up.
Kallie! You are the first cleaning/organizational RUclipsr I watched.
I will continue to watch you; you are wonderful!🎉
The favorite thing I learned from you:
"Do something now that your future self will thank you for." ❤
This video has made me feel so seen!
I have friends in a similar place! They talk about buying things where I talk about organizing and decluttering. You are rocking it!!
U are focusing on a baby tbeu are not
I completely agree.
Aww, i wish I were able to give you a ride to church. I.m pretty sure if you ask to the people at church, they can organize something for you
I so admire your ability to cut back on things, buy or not buy items, sharing ways we waste time, money, space.
I just took my throw rugs out, I was spending WAY too much time straightening and unbunching them. So much easier to clean the floor now
I also took out throw rugs. Then we downsized to a condo on a slab. I now put down like a rubber/ gel type mats. It really helps my feet. They are really not pretty at all.
You hit this video out of the ball park! 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊❤
For sure, kitchen rugs aren’t needed. Often a trip hazard
In Ireland we don’t really have throw rugs in the kitchen. Too much water and dirt floating around !
I am doing a 90 Amazon no buy except the stuff on Subscribe & Save. Game changer!
You are a minimalist.
I love to read as well but I will donate the books after I get done reading them or bring them back to the library after I get done reading it
Using the library is hard for me, because I'm a hermit and hate leaving my house.
I absolutely love this!! I feel like every other video these days is trying to sell things we don’t need. So this is super refreshing and helpful❤
Don't worry! She has lots of videos trying to sell you things! 😂
#5:04 food. Since i was a young adult till now 50yrs old i have always streamlined the food content at home breakfast lunch dinners. My fridge looks fuller at christmas Easter or Bithdays but generally i got less inventory in food cupboards fridge than other ppl i visit.
I’ve received comments before my fridge looks bare 😂
(but family members and guests always get fed without complaint of hunger )
Thank you as always for reminding all me of ways to simplify my belongings and life . i am striving to make my world more serene and calming
The way you word things. I’ve never thought that way before. Thanks so much for being so practical!
Been doing it for the last 10 years! Different company but same idea. Can’t go back, too much thought required.
@@lindag277 oh wow! We are 3 years strong so far 😆
About streamlining makeup, I've even gotten rid of blush, just using my same lipstick to swipe on my cheekbone and blending it in.
So helpful, thank you
Loved the transition into the sponsor! Very clever.
Some good tips here, will never give up my books but have less now.
I agree with your points. I don't like clutter in my place. THERFORE, their is less time required for dusting!
Hi Kallie! These are all great tips, thank you! Loved seeing the studio! Hope you are loving the new space and it is making work go so much smoother!
Congratulations on 1M subscribers & baby #3 on the way!! 🎉🎉👏🏾👏🏾
Congratulations Kali!!!!! I was so excited to hear about the third baby on the way!!! You are amazing at what you do!!!!
Can you please share a link for the magnetic car tracks that your kids enjoy. Thank you!
Please link the magnetic race track...looks great!!! Thank you
I like this!
Yes! Have not had any rugs except right inside the door to actually wipe shoes on for 10 years! Life changing!!
Thank you for sharing. I will be looking at all my "stuff" differently now.
Shortie here too and I thought the exact same thing.
Where did you get the snack container at time 5:56? Also wondering what's your take on emergency food supply?
Great video and you always just keep it simple and straightforward. I am guilty of earrings. This year I am on a no buy for jewelry and makeup. Use what I have and then when it’s done. Stop.
Another great Video. 👍 I also starting keeping my makeup to one of everything that I need. It all fits in one cosmetic bag. Less mess.
May God bless Kallie with her new baby, and continue to bless her and her family.
Every December I look in my bathroom and inventory. There are usually several products I won't have to buy for the whole year. This makes me use them up. This year it's perfume, conditioner, shampoo and deoderant.
I love your list and will add to my personal issues to include crafts projects, potential gifts, etc. Thanks for the start
One thing my kids loved was lego's , they would put them together as instructed but later dismantled and put together whole new interesting looks which kept them engaged for hours
I cannot live without my library! ♥️
Congrats on your third baby. Cannot what to see the new bundle of joy. Your little boy and girl are so cute
Excellent!! I love it! Fire the things that aren’t bringing the value !
I could listen to you all day ❤ thanks for the great tips!
So simple but so true. We forget simplicity is best. Thx you! 🙌
Sue here: spot on! Less stuff is easier and definitely contributes to a peaceful happy home ... and mind 😊🏠.
On a side note, can you provide your quesadilla recipe/prep? Thanks
I’m definitely starting to feel this way about rugs. We have 2 little dogs and they have ruined quite a few rugs in various ways
Hi kallie , luvvvv yr hair 😍 can u tell the streaks u have done
Your right it’s easier in a smaller business and I like how you said that in the beginning
As for overstocking (nail polish, hair stuff, etc.). What if you're a couponer for those type of products?
Thank you for doing this! Curious how you handle gift giving? People (aka family) often want to buy me or my kids a gift for birthdays, Christmas, etc. and this is where I typically accumulate excess. How do you manage emotions of family when you really would rather not have “things?”
If they ask for suggestions, it’s helpful to have a few fun ideas in your mind that aren’t clutter, but you’d like and they would like to give. Example- tickets for events or amusement parks. A title of an actual book or cookbook you’d like to own. Your new favorite scent from method, or Mrs Meyer, or bath and body ( however you feel, if you use that stuff) simple but useful items you’d appreciate
Edit - if they don’t ask, it’s hard 😢
The one thing on this list I don’t agree with is books, BUT that is because I am not only an avid reader, but an avid re-reader as well. On average, most Americans read 12 books in a year (5.5 books if you stipulate reading from start to finish). I typically read more than 100 books in a year, so having options that I own is a worthwhile investment for me. It helps that I have a dedicated room for books in my house with plenty of shelf space. It’s my sanctuary, and I love it!
I love all your videos, thank you for this one. They're always so helpful and meaningful. 🙏🏽😊
Your a busy mom and fixing to get busier! You have a great handle on things. YAY! For you dear!
Do you have a link for the magnetic car tracks please?
