@@andthegreatcolddeathofthee1737 at first I avoided the growls of Opeth but Drapery Falls was the one song (as well as bleak) because of the clean vocals and that slow getting used to the growls led me to loving the growls. I think I've just moved on from Drapery Falls as it's no where near my favorite anymore. Still a good song tho
The Lotus Eater is FIRE.
The end of devil's orchard gives me chills every time with that solo

This is genuinely a pretty accurate representation of my first reaction to Opeth. No words just pure joy and a lot of WHAT
Perfection died in 1650 and was reincarnated into Mikael Åkerfeldt. There's no better way to describe Mikael's music and as performed by Opeth live or on albums where it seems every instrument have been through a particular choice for each note what to play and where, although it might just be several playthroughs getting there or even ideas being built as they record in the studio, or it could just be Mikael's vision comes through in a genius way by him and his formidable bandmembers. His genius is not only in the riffing but all the more in the transitions and giving you just the perfect amount of each moment. Bach would be proud. That's the only way I can describe his music. I wouldn't want to change a thing anywhere - much like I wouldn't want to change anything in Bach's music. Bach made thousands of pieces of music - I hope Mikael does too.
Love the reaction, btw. :-) As many people already said, go throught the catalogue, you don't even have to pick just don't touch the pick-up.
Moonlapse Vertigo always melts my mind, from the Still Life album. The Funeral Portrait is a great heavy hitter from Blackwater Park

Awesome as usual. Love seeing people "get" good music! The cool thing about bands like Opeth is their songs don't get old. They just get better and better the more you listen to them because you start learning all the peaks and valleys and you notice more little technical flairs each time you listen. Keep it up guys, you're one of the best!

Ghost Reveries might be the greatest metal album ever made....only to be challenged by other Opeth albums. Beyond amazing. Mikael is a true musical genius imo....my musical background consists of a bachelor's and master's in music.
Ghost reveries is the best album ever done...all categories! It's breathtaking in every possible way. I cry when I listen to it. The Talent of Opeth is beyond everything

It's such a trip to watch adults hear this for the first time, totally agree! My first Opeth experience was my freshman year of high school living in germany with my family in 1996. This video made me feel young again while simultaneously feeling old as shit, lol.

I am so glad they wrote this album with Lopez still in the band. While Axe is still a good drummer, it just wouldn't be the same. The drumming on this album was a huge highpoint.

I think they'd prefer songs such as Opponent, Sectarian or Opal as an introduction to the band. Antagonist and Martyrs are too political and could be too controversial topics
"The Moor" by Opeth is a great song, brutal and nasty riffs and beautiful acoustic sections for you to enjoy!

Just listen to their entire discography. Everything up until heritage is golden.
Correction: Everything Mikael ever wrote is a gem....he has NEVER had a misstep, ever. Yes there are some production issues on Sorceress and ICV, but musically its all brilliant. Heritage and Pale Communion are especially brilliant. Deliverance is an underrated gem too, along with My Arms!
