    Anybody else go to the 1999-2000 NYE show with 311 and RHCP (and Bicycle Thief opening) that P-Nut spoke of? Still one of the most magical and energetic shows I've been to. Everyone was playing their hearts out. The forum was sold out and the crowd positively electric. Even though I'd heard Down on MTV like everyone else, this show made me a 311 fan for life and I bought Soundsystem the following day at Tower Records. Perfect way to close out the millennium. I still rock Soundsystem, Transistor, and From Chaos regularly. Would love to hang out on a boat with the guys some day.

    I reckon that album that turns music upside down and all around in your head totally reflects who you are at the time, and also it kind of ends up being something that reflects what it is in you that needs to be stirred up, which is as much a credit to your awakening as it is to the album itself.
    Full disclosure, I came to 311 via Down in 1996 but going through all the albums, Transistor definitely has a left-turn quality all on its own, with or without the other albums as context.
    Aaron seems like a really accessible guy, great candidate for open and candid interviews.

  • @robertfrost8264

    53:28 P-nut speaking on Transistor possibly being the best era of their music. I think that album is fucking PEAK 311. They went in hard, 21 songs, every feeling, blazing solos, best lyrics imo. *Best production* and something they've never really been able to recreate since.

    • @AxelAlexK
      @AxelAlexK 4 года назад +2

      yeah, as a huge 311 fan myself it was their peak IMO. Most hardcore fans consider it their best. They did come back really strong in 2014 with Stereolithic, which rivals it IMO (coincidently it is made up of a lot of revisions of transistor era tracks). Mosaic from 2017 is pretty good, minus a handful of bad songs. Their records in the 00s decade were not as strong. And their most recent album, Voyager, was in my opinion their weakest album ever unfortunately. Still, I enjoy pretty much every 311 album though certainly their older stuff is better generally.

    • @robertfrost8264
      @robertfrost8264 4 года назад

      @@AxelAlexK Pnut said they got back with their producer from Transistor for the 2017 album I think. TBH I turned my back on them and Incubus when Dirk left that band. I know those types of bands need to evolve to stay relevant but that wasn't why I was a fan. I heard a recent 311 song where they're talking about having a time on a Friday night. I was actually like angry. Why is this band, 5 members who haven't had a working class job since they were in their teens or early 20s pandering so hard hahah Dave Grohl can consistently release albums into his 40s and 50s? That are flat out great, original albums but there's no corny bs. When I was a kid it dawned on me that Blink 182 and Less Than Jake were still singing about being a tween and they were so old and out of touch.. Don't even get me started on whatever that Green Day album was, Grampas of Rock or something? Their drummer still wears eyeliner as far as I know 😄

    • @AxelAlexK
      @AxelAlexK 4 года назад

      @@robertfrost8264 I think the song you're referring to is Til the City's On Fire from Mosaic. And you're right, that song is terrible, my stomach churned the first time I heard it and hardcore fans consider it 311's worst song ever or atleast in the top 3 worst. It's infamous among hardcore fans for being bad. 311 didn't even write it and it shows, they started using a guest writer to write some songs on Mosaic and later Voyager, including that song. Thankfully that song is a terrible outlier and Mosaic contains mostly good to great songs. There are a few really bad songs on that album though (most of the bad ones are the ones 311 didn't write).

    • @AxelAlexK
      @AxelAlexK 2 месяца назад

      @@rayplaysgames_RPGI agree that Transistor is better, but I don't think Stereolithic is that far off. I usually put them at 1 and 2 when I rank 311 albums. I freaking love both. I know most would rank it lower but Stereo really hits for me.

    saw them a few years ago when P-Nut was doing the Rage bass solo. He made the comment that the songs from 20 years ago are so much more popular than their new songs.
    Well, the old songs contained so many nuances. (i.e. the random screams and guitar 'effects' on early Van Halen albums) Your new songs sound like the the attention to detail has been lost. It's like y'all are no longer hungry.
    Also, I believe there is a difference between musicians trying to create something musically complex vs. something that sounds good, but may be musically simple. (i.e Tom Petty wildflowers album)

Still have not been able to watch it: would not work live that night and going back a few times the week after and it still wouldn't play freely, kept pausing to load & freezing up but regardless did not seem like much of anything worth paying a ticket price for. I'm not usually one to complain or make a stink of something, I do hope that my fee went entirely to Tom and his stupid extremities, but I doubt I'll be paying for a "live show" again in the future. Starting to get even more unbearably unwatchable anyway.... but love 311 & the Pnut so I'm here now. Come Original! Don't Forget Omaha, Nebraska, NOT L.A.
