Transistor after begging for the CD for months for Christmas in 97. I never even heard the band before but something about the album art just intrigued me so much that I had to have it. Something just told me as a 14 year old kid that I was about to find my favorite band.

I truly respect 311, those guys been in the game since I was 7 or 8 and still have a following. They sound good live, not everyone's cup of tea but I can listen to them all day and not the overplayed songs.

Now you need to get Alex (Dirk Lance) formerly of incubus. You can’t give me half of my 90’s 00’s Warwick bass inspiration

Love the reggae conversation about 30 mins in! Very similar for me. My boys and I were in a local band for about a dozen years in Denver doing some kinda nu metal stuff in the early 2000's. Pretty heavy stuff, but 311 was always one of my personal fav bands growing up. Heavy riffs with lots of melody and reggae and funk/hip hop influence. The more our band pushed forward, the more reggae and stoked influence I would try to seep into the metal band haha. I went from kind of writing heavy angsty stuff, to just being happy and pushing more of a happy sound into the metal. It turned out pretty cool! Love pulling from all sorts of different styles of music for sure.
Dirty Heads a big influence after seeing them on the 311 cruise in 2012!
ps Johnny - Def go see 311 live, its a very fun set, and all of their sets are so different from show to show.

1:43:25 Look at Volbeat. I got to see them three times in a couple years. They rocked the U.S. over and over again.

39:50 "Leave space." Yes! Just like anything else in life. Pay attention to the space. Can't have "things" without space. Can't have music without quiet. Let the space do it's "talking" too. I love P-Nut.

I'm just curious as to whether or not my favorite 311 song of all time, "Wildfire" was actually influenced by A7X. I was getting A7X vibes from the end of "Friday Afternoon" as well.

Mosaic is the better recent album over Voyager. Even more awesome guitar licks. Songs a bit more complete. Lyrics overall a bit stronger. It's their best modern work. Check out "One and the Same" and "Too Late" and "Perfect Mistake" for all of you heavier rock Avenged Sevenfold fans.
