I had the privilege in 1985 as a teenager to do work experience at Amberley Air force Base. I climbed all over these F1-11s. A great time to be alive. Best jet ever....🇦🇺🦘
My dad was an EWO on EF-111 Ravens when I was a boy. I remember getting to great him after he came back from a mission by climbing up the ladder and giving him a beer, pointed out the controls and a bunch of other things I didn’t understand at that young age, but I still remember how cool I thought the plane was.
I attended a airshow at RAAF Williamtown circa 1977, I was 10 years old. I still remember the F-111 dump and burn, i was fascinatd with aviation from that day on. Thanks for the video.
I remember watching an F 111 being stripped at RAF Lakenheath. They removed the engines & there was hardly any plane left, it was amazing how much of the aircraft was just those two jet engines.
As a child visiting relatives at upper heyford Oxfordshire England during the summer holidays the 80s I can still see the endless procession of the SAC F111 s during our summer afternoons playing in the river SAC really was something to see in operation later I remember touring the base on an official guided tour by the USAF and seeing a cockpit recovered from the see after an ejection as I believe the cockpit ejects as a whole not the crew.

Last night I spent an hour walking around Our F111 under her cover ,at RAAF base Amberly, she had mud wasps on her nose ,cobwebs on her shoulders , but she sat in silence , her dignity ,solid, I walked around her for that full hour & first time I saw her I was 16 in 19 flight ATC ,I was in her Bombay with my 35 mm camera rolling off film ,when I was asked ,"What are you up too cadet??........you can't film under here .........lol... well I'm a pilot now , ......fixed wing ,private,......no jets ,life is about reality, ....but they can't stop you dreaming & remembering ,each glimpse you got when she flew over head ,on her way to. Some place something.....last night , I took another bomb load of digital snaps ,...no officer this time ,past his bed time, ....10 pm ...to those of you who kept these girls flying I salute you, ...to those of you who died flying her,I remember your sacrifice so I could walk around her on a late night visit to see an old friend....dressed in RAAF identification......to the little kids who ,look towards the open skies I say.......DARE TO DREAM,...lift your feet ,take that one small step........and to those of you who bath her, .....please remember her personal service as an Australian asset,......remove her mud wasps and get those cob webs off her........she still caries our FLAG on her vertical fin......as Jimmy Barnes said, she is a working class ...and she's earnt the right to be clean ........The Southern Cross , the 138........if we forget the value of past service ,we become a nation of fools, ........maybe she is loved ,but , maybe we can lift our own game on her behalf .......she sits grounded ,wings folded back , ....gutted ,but she still evokes a pilots tears and an engineer's nod of total RESPECT..I've done my 40 years in engineering..even worked for Rolls Royce, ...I hope next time I park my White Merc Benz C-180 Kompressor next to her at 10 pm , ....she has no mud wasps or cobwebs .....or I just might clean her my self.............no body else around that time of the evening ,....when one can't sleep.........lest we forget.
Well said..magic bird..Evans Head RAAF museum has one in great nick..if lucky you get a commentary by ex Pig navigator when visiting which is awesome..I knew they were good but didn't realise the extent of the capability of this magic aircraft ..full marks..ex Gunnie 77sqn Mirage 68-74
The best plane we ever had, or likely will have for its range, low level penetration and precision capabilities. What we have now is nothing compared to the Pigs. RIP to the greatest jet the RAAF ever had.
yeah the heat from 50 meters away is like being next to a fire pit 1 meter away, last dump and burn i seen was down at the last airshow in amberley airbase in about 2008 ,back when life in australia was good , they have resumed air shows back at amberly ?
Hi Brad, nice video 👍 Do you know if they still have the F1-11 down at the Evans Head Museum. I remember visiting there some years ago now. Was a great display with the guided tour of the F1-11. All the best, Natalie🙋♀🌞⛄🎅
During Operation Golden Canyon in 1986, U.S. military pilots flew F111s for more than 5,000 kilometers. After being refueled by several aerial tankers on the way, they went straight to Libya and cooperated with A6 attack aircraft launched from two aircraft carriers of the Mediterranean Fleet to carry out attack missions. Only one F111 and two pilots were lost.
The F-111 was the RAAF's last 'real' aeroplane. Now, it's all machines, computers and robots in the seat. I'm SO glad I got out in 1991, the RAAF is now a pale shadow of it's former self.
As a doggie, they were my favourite aircraft to look after if you took the engine covers out and placed them against the back tyres, it was like a comfortable chair
I joined the RAAF as a Service Policeman (SP) in 1977 but our titles were then changed to RAAF Police (RAAFPOL) with shirt pocket badges. I see it's now reverted back to Service Police with SP on the brassard.
Man and machine in full protection mode.....i sleep well at night knowing they're there......the F111 may be retiring but there'll be a greater plane to take her place .....
We should've built more storage and kept all those aircraft in constant readiness for our future needs. Transition to Superhornet and F-35 sure, but keep these ready. We will regret it soon.
Great planes, loved seeing them at airshows, but I believe they required well in excess 150 hours of maintenance for every hour of flight time towards the later part of their service life, but it would be interesting to see how well modern day radar & defense systems go at stopping a deuce of F111 flying at Mach+ at under 50 feet.
@@rumster440 I was actually looking for the title of the music but obviously that wasn't clear to you. Anyhow, well done, you have earned yourself a virtual participation trophy.
It was the result of the TFX program, under MacNamara. He wanted to replace individual fighters from the Navy and Air force with one aircraft to save money. The navy hated it and the USAF loved it. When MacNamara resigned the navy selected the F-14 Tomcat and dumped the F-111B program instantly.
lachlan valley runs back in the 80s....would be right on top of you without more than a confusing rumble first. But if it was weapons free ill guarantee you would never hear the f1 11c.
American Technology, it is a shame we need anything at all to defend our countries, we should just all get along together and put our differences aside, remember we are on a very small rock floating in space with nowhere to escape if it all goes to shit. Humans are their own worst enemy. Be safe and Keep it real. Brad
it was sad seeing these beautiful machine go, and nothing could ever replace it in service and in our hearts! (D:)

Never forgotten seeing these awesome beasts at RAF Mildenhall, UK

One of all time favorites!
A great model to build is the monogram 1/48 scale of this aircraft!
Proud to have served at 6 squadron RAAF for three years Never got sick of tEvebhe sight and sound of the Pig

No worries, sad that they dont fly anymore but costs and maintenance was a a killer as well as age

Such an awesome plane. I saw one being repaired from fire damage at General Dynamics in Ft. Worth. I thought now that's the place to work!

Thanks for watching, yes they are fine jets for sure, so sad that they are gone only to be viewed without a heartbeat.
Cheers

No heart beat but plenty of soul............
I know how you felt seeing her all covered in crap, I saw her in horrible condition, thankfully they did clean her not long after
Richard, that was a poignant story of the magnificent lady. If I could, I would help you to restore her dignity.

I seen them fly over with the afterburner on like that & could feel the heat on my face!

I remember seeing the f 1 11 at Wagga Wagga in 85 for the Jubilee celebration when I was a cadet such a awsome aircraft
Magnificent
While they did preserve a few in museums it's to bad they couldn't have kept one or two flying the way the British do with their memorial flight.

It was called Operation El Dorado Canyon.

Sad. They can invest millions into the B52 and F15s to modernize them but never even tried with these Iconic beautiful birds

You are not wrong, we are to quick to get rid of stuff we will need due to the current world climate.
Cheers and thanks for watching.

Those F-111S look like they could still kick some serious a-s!!!!!!!!!!
A8-109 is on display at HARS Museum.
STILL MY FAV JET .......
They have one at the Air Museum at Caloundra, Sunshine Coast.
My favourite plane as a kid
Stripped down of all components
And buried under ground
Only a few have been kept for aviation museums
Still miss the dump and burn
Yes and it is a shame, great machines for sure.
Brad
I've only been to 1 River fire in Brisbane since they stopped using the F-111
Just not the same without the dump and burn
The skies around SEQLD have never been the same since our pig left😢
Nice footage.
Does anyone know what the music is?
Annoying
@@rumster440 I was actually looking for the title of the music but obviously that wasn't clear to you.

A huge loss to the RAAF. We need a new version😉🫡🇦🇺
who tf knew it was that maneuverable

They should never have killed these off without a replacement.
I have photos I took of the last five F-111's flying past Mt.Cootha with Brisbane CBD in the background.

When they open the wings they slow down a lot - thanks for watching.
Proof that pigs can fly.
Retired at the right time, looks like it was leaking quite a lot of fuel.
Great video, pity about the music, though. I go to music pages for music!!!

No, It's 'Pig'.

I dont know what it is but I really dont like the F111, but im glad it lead to the F14
Would have been a much better video if there was no music 😮
