- I heard the song 'Creature' by Half Alive months ago, and have been wanting to make some sort of animatic for it ever since: it is terrifying how well it fits Creature, especially the original Frankenstein novel's version (definitely leaned into Creature's more vengeful and bitter traits for this vid here).
Anyway, let's talk art style! Really wanted to do something different with the visuals for this one - the simplistic geometric style was something I tried out last year with the Penny Dreadfull animatic that I had been itching to try again, this time with added textures and mouvement. The gold accents, especially for Creature's scar's were inspired by the japanese art of kintsugi, the art of repairing broken porceline with gold: highlighting Victor's original intents of beauty, but only drawing more attention to the parts Creature finds most gruesome of himself, the parts that are not his own ... It felt rather fitting for him.
This was also done as a bit of an exercise for the eventual 'Modern Prometheus' Frankenstein animatic I announced - I don't think it will be as polished as this one, but it was neat to tackle a more serious, larger project! Stay tuned for that ... eventually.
No cottagers were harmed in the making of this video.

This is quite possibly your best work to date. I was transfixed the whole time I was watching this. The song is perfect and the art just makes me want to reach in and give Creature a long warm hug. Bravo Vvarx.

I love this so much! I encapsulates that gravity of creation without consciousness. The Monster never asked to be born, he just was. I cannot fully not truly express my loved for this book and the art you have made from it. Thank you for this video!

This just absolutely causes all the feels. I think it’s just so great that people are getting back into the original Frankenstein story since I feel like that is so much better than what ever the media portrays Frankenstein to be.
I've always loved the Creature since I read Mary Shelly's Frankenstein in High School, And finally just let myself be part of the fandom, and this is ....

I- Vvarx this is. This is ART. What you have made with this animatic and this song is everything art is supposed to be. I'm struggling to write this because I'm shaking right now, and I almost cried whilst watching it.
I don't even know where to start. So many people have already pointed out that is absolutely your best work, and I saw someone had pointed out already that the color scheme is beautiful.
And honestly that's just the beginning. This is POWERFUL. Between the song choice, and then your editing and portrayal of Creature on top of it, and how you synched his experience with the lyrics; this animatic vibrates emotion. Which is perfect for an adaptation of Romantic literature. His and Victor's emotion are the driving force of the story, after all. (God I love this book.)
Oh, and speaking of Creature's emotion, you captured it perfectly. Every moment watching this was an exercise in empathy. I could feel his wonder, curiosity, shame, horror, hatred, and finally, anger in every beat and frame. And his final choice in anger to take revenge is so beautiful I had to take a moment just to feel the significance of it.

This is honestly your best so far, I think the style works so well. You do a fantastic job of making Creature look really vulnerable and letting us feel his pain. Even after he's standing there, holding the torch he still looks vulnerable and you want to protect him.

Poor sweet Creature. I’m pretty sure most people love Frankenstein’s monster in general, but the way you draw him makes him even more endearing like a big puppy in need of love and a home. I’d love to see more of the exquisite animatics from you.

Ah, phenomenal as always. I like your art because it seems simple but the more I see your work the more brilliant it seems. You rock everything! The shapes, the lighting, colour scheme, themes and meanings.
I always liked Creature, even though I can’t truly relate to him, I’ve never felt abandoned, not loved and left alone on this Earth, but I always liked the idea behind him, that we will eventually become what others want us to be, or how they see us will define us. Both Victor and Creature are well-written characters and we can’t tell if they are good or bad. I don’t usually like morally grey characters because everyone wants to see the evil vanquished and heroes celebrated, but this novel is an exception and that’s one of the reasons I like it that much.
And good luck with your animatic! I’m hyped for it, every time there is a new animatic for The Modern Prometheus, every time the newer animatic is better than the previous ones. I thought we reached the top and then you announced that you are making your own one! Good luck, I can’t wait to see it :D

And I should mention I found this entirely by chance because I recently started hyperfixating on Frankenstein (weird thing to hyperfixate on, I know), so I was listening to music from the Frankenstein musical that was a thing, and just happened to see this video while scrolling through my recommendeds and thought ... Wait... is that what I think it is? And it was! Uploaded on the same day that I had my own idea! What an insane coincidence!

I totally get the hyperfixating thing! As soon as I heard some songs from the musical, I started figuring out how to play half the soundtrack on piano. It was basically the only music I listened to for a month.

Ok but can we appreciate the freakin’ art bc I can’t breath it’s such a pleasure to watch. The gray scale, simplicity and minimal colors is so perfect I love the addition of kintsugi for the scars and the meaning you gave it. i literally thought of the creature immediately after listening to this song for the first time a few months back, and I'm thoroughly convinced that it was inspired by Frankenstein. this is absolute perfection! I'm literally obsessed. the geometric art style is so simple yet so alive (pun unintended) and aesthetically pleasing. it also fits the whole tone of the creature's story so well - the colors, textures, everything. def gonna save this to my playlist and come back to rewatch :)

I can only echo the well deserved praise for this video's visuals & artistic storytelling.
The song's lyrics in particular were an inspired choice. It is so hopeful about acknowledging & entrusting oneself to an Omnipotent benevolent God, whereas all the Creature gets is.....Victor Frankenstein.😅
But maybe its also a reflection on having high expectations from a parental figure. As much as we give Victor flack for his colossal mistakes leading to tragic consequences, I also pity him for his helplessness and ignorance.
Wonderfully put! Indeed, as hopefull and soothing the lyrics are, I thought it was so interesting to have them overlayed with a being who's forced to come to terms with the fact that his own 'God' is far from loving. And certainly - I've always seen Victor as much more pitiful that outright malignant: that's what happens when you become a 'father-figure' when you're barely more than a teen yourself. It's a lot of responsability Victor never thought to consider.

hello?? hello. so i just read the book and am discovering the fact that there's still somewhat of a fandom surrounding it and this is so good?? other comments have mentioned the color scheme but yeah it's fantastic and just. the light when he meets de lacey and he extends his hand and just knowing from that framing the doors is gonna burst open. the way the monster closes his eyes in with both anger and tears. the "illuminated from within" while showing the family. the silhouette of him standing in front of the burning house that is very similar to how i imagined that scene! really this is wonderful!!!
