only non yankee fans are worried about the yankees not having a city connect jersey. Get over it , we don't care. The Yankees are doing just fine in sales and don't need the silly gimmick
Yankees took easy way out… Most these jerseys are awful, except maybe like 5-6. The rest are joke uniforms in my eyes. The Yankees rather than take the risk of being one of said joke uniforms decided not to play in this game at all. They know there’s literally no way to win, so they decided to sit it out.
As a Yankees fan, i only want to see the pinstripes with the interlocking NY for home games and the road grays with New York printed across the front. The greatest organization in all of professional sports doesnt need minor league gimmicks
It’s ironic they claim tradition because the pinstripe Home Uni they currently have didn’t become regular until the early 30’s. The best Yankees team ever, 1927 wore plain white home uniforms that said Yankees across them in block letters.
Good for the Yankees. A historic and untarnished branding is worth a lot more than short-term profits an attrocious city connect jersey would generate. The MLB should learn from the NBA's example: don't water down your brands in pursuit of increased merchandise sales
You must have been living under a rock for years. They broke out new Players Weekend uniforms a long time ago. And tainted their current uniforms with pathetic ads. Their brand has been watered down long before now.
The A’s have burnt bridges with every city they’ve ever called home whilst I’ve no idea what the Yankees excuse is like how I don’t get what the Rangers excuse is to not have a mascot
Honestly I think it's hypocritical of the Yankees to put 'Starr Insurance' on the sleeve and then talk about tradition. I'm a young-ish (29) Yanks fan. I actually like the facial hair rules, the classic jersey, or no names on the back. I do however think a city connect that incorporates the 'Bronx Bombers' somewhere would be cool. If they're going ro sell sleeve space....then who cares about a city connect imo. The stupid insurance ad is way worse.
Pretty's much every team in the 4 NA leagues have ads now. I like how the Yankees went with a minimal sponsor logo.. but I get why would the Yankees need for money for a sponsor ahah
Do you remember many years ago when the Yankees would play in Japan and they had to wear a sponsorship logo on their jerseys for that series? There was uproar at the time, but I knew that it was likely greed would lead to the desecration of the uniforms with sponsors’ logos. I like tradition mostly, and the amount of adverts and teams wearing different unis every night is wearing, but I agree that one subtle alternate Yankees jersey would be fine.
... which look sharp. However the Starr Insurance patch is an abomination, as is the Nike swoosh on the front. The swoosh looks OK on the front of a basketball or football jersey, but it belongs on the sleeve for baseball.
While I’ll admit I’m not a fan of the city connect program because of how poorly executed most of the jerseys are, I completely agree that the exemption of the Yankees from the program is flat out ridiculous and is another tacky move by their organization. Their refusal of the program completely disrespects all the other teams, especially the historic teams like the Red Sox and Cubs, who have embraced the program and its quirkiness to try to help bring more attention to the sport. I can understand the reasoning behind not giving the A’s a city connect jersey with the impending relocation, but they should’ve at least allowed the team to come up with a creative team themed alternative to at least have something a little fun in their final chapter. Overall, MLB could’ve done a much better job with the program and not getting all 30 teams involved and having some bad designs trashed by fans quickly will be the things that get remembered when this program is all said and done.
They already totaled their Porsche as soon as they tarnished it with crummy Starr Insurance. It's comical how all the blind sheep somehow overlook that.
@brodiebrazil The Yanks did have one alternate jersey I think they only wore once for the Players weekend. They also wore throwbacks only twice I believe. They wore New York Highlanders jerseys at Fenway celebrating the 100 year anniversary of Fenway Park and they wore the old / current road jersey in the first Field of Dreams game.
You can buy a Yankee hat in every color you can possibly imagine. The Red Yankee hat in particular seems to be quite popular with young people. Why they can’t incorporate something slightly different into their uniform is just pretentious. And I’m surprised MLB and Nike mutually agreed to do this without all 30 teams on board. They also gave an exception to the Yankees for the AppleTV broadcasts, the one a couple weeks ago was non-exclusive for I believe the first time since they started doing the Apple Friday games.
And in addition, I just thought of this: @brodiebrazil look into this. The Yankees SWEAR they ONLY wear either the pinstripes at home or the grays with the New York on the road and nothing else EVER. Can you check and see what they wore in Dyersville, Iowa when they played the Field Of Dreams game? I believe it was a replica out of the early last century. It wasn’t one of the 2 TRADITIONAL uniforms. So much for their argument that they can only wear those 2. If they only wear those 2 and MLB calls for the replicas at the FOD, and the Yankees said no, then they wouldn’t have been selected to participate. They sucked it up for one night and wore an alternate uniform for a special event.
That game was played in August of 2021. The uniform top that the Yankees wore was a preview of what the changes they made to the road jerseys for 2024. The New York across the front is thinner. There are no stripes on the sleeve edges. The numbers on back are thinner as well. When they explained the changes this spring they said that this was a throwback to an earlier time in their history. Apparently, that must be true if that’s what MLB selected for them to wear for that game. The caps are a different story. They wore something way back in their history. I’d guess from the Murderer’s Row Era perhaps? They are participating for the first time this August in the Sunday Night Baseball from the LLWS in Williamsport, PA in a road game against the Detroit Tigers. According to Wikipedia, some years the teams wore special uniforms to commemorate the occasion and some years they wore their standard issue uniform. You know what the Yankees will do if they are given a choice.
It's common in marketing to have the old classic brand, and the new cool one. The whole Coke vs Pepsi thing There are many other examples The Yankees brand is the classic tradition
I’m from the Brooklyn and Jersey . Yankees fans don’t want a city connect . The Yankees mean so much to that area it’s ridiculous but given the history I definitely understand. I enjoy the city connects in baseball vs the nba though I will say that
Not a fan of City Connect uniforms. Not a Yankee fan, but respect that they aren’t going for the “trendy” gimmicks. Most of the fans hate them anyway. Nike just wants to push them for more money - that’s all.
1. Most of the city connect unis aren’t attractive. 2. The ad the Yankees have added to their uniform sleeves doesn’t mean they automatically have to have an ugly city connect uniform foisted on them that their fans would hate. 3. While it is perfectly OK, if folks like the city connect uniforms, not everyone does. So, if a team doesn’t want one, wouldn’t declare their reasons as “awful.” Although, I have to hand it to the content creator, because that word is what got me to watch this video.
Honestly, I get more excited about teams having cool raid uniforms. Love the Twins road gray with subtle pin stripes. Yankees my favorite team have crap road uniforms. Would loose to see “New York” with a skyline or maybe “New York” wi the images of Yankees legends around the world
Yankees need to pay homage to the Black Yankees. Black jerseys with white pinstripes or solid black. No names, no logos changes unless it's a throw back logo across the chest. I like how Steinbrenner has fought against them. Example is that players weekend in LA against the Dodgers years ago. Dodgers asked mlb if both teams could wear their regular uniforms for the last game out of respect to both of these great franchises. At the end of the day I don't want to see a Yankees Alternate
In my opinion, once the Yankees decided to add an ad patch to their jersey, they should have stopped talking all of the tradition crap they say with their jerseys and get with the new day in age fully.
There is absolutely nothing stopping MLB teams from selling things like the City Connect jerseys and caps in their merch stores or online. Nothing. The only reason MLB wants the teams to wear these costumes is to be able to call them “on-field” and authentic in order to add another $100 to the price. This is all nothing even that new. That navy Yankees jersey with the white pins is exactly the kind of thing you’d see in a sports apparel shop or from a street vendor in NYC in the 90’s. They look like cheap knockoffs.
I can’t speak for the A’s, but the Yankees have class unlike the other 29 teams. I hate the Nike swoosh on the chest. Now fanatics making the uniforms cheap that rip apart.
A simple jersey that they could do is the midnight blue with the cursive Yankees logo they use on jackets a lot with maybe white collar and the NY on the sleeve. As for the hat they could use the hat the Staten Island Yankees used which was the cursive Y with the bat and top hat. The pants could be either plan white or the regular pinstripe pants. The socks could be midnight blue with white outline of the skyline of the city.
A big part of the Yankees brand IS tradition. They promote the number of World Series championships as well as Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio, Mantle and onward. Fans go to their home games wearing and expecting to see the Yankees wearing essentially the same gear they have been wearing for over a century. Actually there is charm in that. They are saying we don't need the extra sales that come with the City Connects. And no matter what design they were to come up with Yankee fans would probably feel a sense of betrayal. Like it or not, and I'm not a Yankees fan, their history and place in baseball is unique. The pinstripes and NY logo are known worldwide. Why would they mess with it. While I think not having players names on the back is a bit arrogant, I think giving the Yankees a pass on the City Connects is a good thing.
Well, you're more likely to see somebody wearing a Yankees hat than the hat of any other professional sports team anywhere in the world. Even teams like Liverpool FC, Chicago Bulls, NE Patriots & the New York Rangers don't come close.⚾
Steinbrenner spit on your phony "tradition" as soon as he stained it with some rotten insurance company. It's astonishing that Yankees fans suddenly forget that.
@@JuanVilorio I would love for a wealthy sponsor to buy sleeve ad that camouflages into the uniform except for barely perceptable font (within the pinstripe at home) that says 'Proud supporter of understated NYY tradition. If you concur, support xyz products llc'
As a Yankee fan (could you guess?) I'm glad they're not joining this bandwagon. Don't mess with the pinstripes. Tradition is VERY important in Yankee-world, and the longer a tradition is carried on the more important it becomes! In fact, I love the fact that they've gone back to the pre-1970's road jerseys and removed the white piping. That is OLD school!! And besides, this is just a cash-grab to sell more merch. So fuggeddabout it, ok?!
Remember back in the 1970s when the Gabe Paul wanted an inverse of tradition that looked like pajamas. And somebody said no way. The Yankees can be on YES, Amazon Prime Video, etc but the uniform, clean shaven ball players, arrogance, no nameplates. Leave it alone. It stayed that way with the uniforms of the 70s. So when is #28 going to happen? Seattle and Atlanta have the best City Connect uniforms. Baltimore, Texas, Metropolitans, Pittsburgh are right behind. Oakland- green and gold, white shoes, moustaches, Bash Brothers, Catfish perfect game, Charlie Finley, Billy Ball, the only dynasty outside the Yankees, is a tradition but will be a memory. Save the A’s!
Disgusting. Cream colored uniforms look great before playing. But once the game starts and the players start sweating in them they start looking like they wearing piss stained uniforms.
@@wesleysteeleiv what jerseys have you been looking at? With the current fanatics issues, sure. But assuming they get fixed for next year, that isn’t an issue
For the Yankees, I would go with tradition if they didn't sell out with the advertising on the sleeve. Names on the back, never tradition. City Connect, never tradition. Advertising on the uniform, of course, Money. I am not a fan of the city connect uniforms, but this tradition thing meant nothing when it came to millions for advertising.
So the team wouldn't make money selling a new uniform when nearly every other team has? Did Yankees fans refuse to buy the Players Weekend uniforms too?
I applaud the Yankees for staying true to their uniform tradition. Why does the NFL need an alternate uniform? ($$$$$$$$$$). Unfortunately MLB and the NHL decided to follow the money grab started by the NFL .
I've been a Yankees fan since the mid-1980's and I cannot fathom seeing them in anything but their standard home and road jerseys. I was surprised by the change they made with the road jerseys, but I've gotten used to them. I don't like seeing Yankees replica jerseys with names on the back. I'm glad the Yankees stuck to their guns for the most part on maintaining their look, though I was peeved with seeing the Nike Logo and ad patch on the jersey. I'm tired of the sameness of the unfiorms and players. In an attempt for players and teams to stand out with their identities, they all end up looking the same. As for the navy blue, white pinstriped jersey, that almost became a reality in the early 1970's.
The only "City Connect" the Yankees should have to go the throwback route and have the ol' school cream home jerseys they wore during the 50s and 60s. Only fair since their new road jersey had the ol' school look.
I'm glad the Yankees didn't do it they have the most Hall of famers than any other team. We don't need the babe rolling over in his grave over this bullshit
That yellow Yankees concept looked very cool. However the Yankees already have a city connect jersey, it’s the standard yankee pinstripe and hat. There is no more famous icon of New York across the world than the interlocking yankee N and Y. Internationally it’s such a representation of New York City that oftentimes foreigners aren’t even aware there’s a team associated with the logo. And in New York? There’s arguably no other logo that better shows pride in the city.
Part of who the Yankees are is the refusal to alter their traditions. Same uniforms forever, with no names on the back, no facial hair other than a mustache, hairs above the ears. It’s as much as a part of the franchise identity as 27 WS championships, monument park, or the facade along the top of the stadium.
I wish the Giants would have walked away from their city connects. Ugly… The Yankees probably see the softball uniforms that are city connect and said no thanks.
Hate the Yankees but I’m fine them not going with this horrendous idea of city connect bs. Although putting ads on it looks horrible but these other uniforms are so ugly it makes old Pittsburgh Steelers uniforms look good
Yankees care a lot about their image and THE look. Also, the fans literally do not care if we get a City Connect or not. I don’t know any Yankee fans that want one.
It's not like the Yankees never stray away from tradition. They have used variant jerseys for occasions. The nicknames jersey for starters... the Field of Dreams variant. I think that Nike just failed to tie in the Yankees' tradition with the city of New York, or even the Bronx appropriately. And given how some of the other teams did theirs... well their new road Jersey Greys are a city-connect all on its own. Most New York City teams and fans are big on the name on the front and not on the back, hence why the Yankees don't have names on their jerseys.
Why would the Yankees need to? The City Connect Jersey's are awful, ugly and stupid. The "we're in 2024" and "more goes now than ever"argument is so weak. That's the universal copout when you don't have a valid point, which you don't. I HATE alternate jersey's. They have always been stupid.
I despise this stupid city cash connect jersey program. It’s just terrible. Uniform mean nothing anymore. They’ll change it for just anything. Depends on what holiday or pride day falls on, they’ll crap all over team history to pander to people. Just shameful
It would be great if the yankees decided to have CC unis because there would be no way the team would accept any awful first drafts Nike showed them. Hopefully that would set a precident for any other MLB teams to want to revise their bland or uninspiring CC uni's (looking at you, Detroit!)
Red Sox fan since 6th grade. I’m 46 years old. I love to hate the Yankees. That being said, that jersey is beautiful and I’d love to see it. Silly not to use it.
Yankees no longer have the “tradition” excuse anymore to fall back on. They lost the right to use it when they allowed that horrendous “Starr Insurance” patch on the side where the batter faces forward. Cause it’s not even on the same side for all players. They both look good. I liked the black and yellow. Reminded me of Batman colors. Batman, Gotham… anyway great vid as always
The city connect uniforms are for extra revenue, Yankees don't need the extra cash. Imagine calling Yankee Stadium like Wal-Mart Field, just like those stupid jerseys its never going to happen.
Dodger fan, but I don’t blame the Yankees one bit. Teams should be organically connecting with their cities in so many other ways. Let the incompetent marketing people play with the socks, custom cleats, the hats for days of recognition etc but the uniform should be sacred (especially for iconic franchises). The Marines don’t toy with the legendary dress blues right?
Those ice cream sherbet uniforms of the Padres probably appeal to five-year-olds. But do five-year-olds buy merchandise? I like the Yankees facial hair policy. Do you really want your son to look like Charlie Blackmon when he grows up?
As a Yankee fan I LOVE the old-fashioned uniform rules, I hate the ad patch but would also hate a city connect or if they began putting names on the backs. I do think they need to let them grow beards though.

Don't talk to me about tradition when they accepted to have ads on the uniform
Steinbrenner spit on your phony "tradition" as soon as he stained it with some rotten insurance company. It's astonishing that Yankees fans suddenly forget that.
@@JuanVilorio I would love for a wealthy sponsor to buy sleeve ad that camouflages into the uniform except for barely perceptable font (within the pinstripe at home) that says 'Proud supporter of understated NYY tradition. If you concur, support xyz products llc'
I with the Yankees on this one. I don’t think dressing the players in clown outfits attracted a single young fan.
They already look like clowns with the stupid insurance company on the uniform.
Yankees don't need this junk. Leave the goofy garbage for the Mets, with their giant apple and top-heavy mascot.
Except they already put some garbage insurance company on the sleeve.
1. A’s may not exist by 2027
2. New York Yankees have uniform codes like the military
3. Good Luck 🍀
George Steinbrenner WAS in the military and was big on military disciple
If they did players weekend why can’t they do a City Connect?
I HATE NIKE
The black and yellow Yankees jersey doesn't make sense. I associate those colors with Pittsburg teams.
The Yankees are way too strict
Seriously....Mets should have done a QUEENS jersey, and Yankees should do a BRONX BOMBERS jersey
Yankees' fans don't want that crap. Plain simple
I am not a Yankees fan. I have to say I would have buy the Art deco version…. And remove the Yankees logo.
All or none? Considering how bad 90% of these City Connects are horrible. Why would the Yankees want that? Would your recolor the Mona Lisa?
Look at San Diego or those mustard color Red Sox jerseys. As a Steelers fan I hate the bumblebee jerseys
Might as well. They already fucked up their Mona Lisa when they soiled it with some deplorable insurance company on the sleeve.
I think they Yankees should add a cream version of their home jersey to wear on Sunday home day games
And on the road, they could add the Spring Training road jersey into the regular rotation!!!
Disgusting.
Cream colored uniforms look great before playing. But once the game starts and the players start sweating in them they start looking like they wearing piss stained uniforms.
@@wesleysteeleiv Although they did say all those uniform issues will be fixed for next season
I don't believe it will turn well for advertising
Exactly! Once they added the ad patch to their jerseys, they can throw all that “tradition” talk out the window.
So the team wouldn't make money selling a new uniform when nearly every other team has? Did Yankees fans refuse to buy the Players Weekend uniforms too?
The Yankees tradition is real. If I was a Padre, I wouldn’t wear those.
It was until they stained their uniforms with the pathetic insurance company. Tradition means nothing anymore.
What’s up jersey nerds!?!
I applaud the Yankees for staying true to their uniform tradition. Why does the NFL need an alternate uniform? ($$$$$$$$$$). Unfortunately MLB and the NHL decided to follow the money grab started by the NFL .
What "tradition"? They already ruined their uniforms with some disgusting insurance company.
The Town looks dope as fck 💯👌🏿
The whole idea of City Connect is just creating another jersey real people can't afford.
A black eye for baseball - a jersey? haha
Too late. They already wore Players Weekend jerseys years ago. Funny how no one resisted them then.
I'm a Yankee fan and this video made me change my mind about City Connect uniforms. I definitely don't want the Yankees to do them.
A's Alternative Jersey: X out Philadelphia, Kansas City, Oakland and Sacramento.
Hat: A Question Mark
Honestly these jerseys are not my thing. I haven’t seen too many I like. Hockey did it great with their reverse retro jerseys.
Ugly…
The Yankees probably see the softball uniforms that are city connect and said no thanks.
Good for the Yankees, the city connect idea needs to pass. The a'S city connect can be empty seats across the chest
I’m not quite sure why he says the Yankees, have not had any alternate jerseys if I’m not mistaken, the all black uniforms are an alternate jersey
And I believe the Yankees participated in the Players Weekend alternate jerseys in like 2018-2019.
Yankee fans complained so much about the Players Weekend jerseys that I don't think the Yankees ever considered creating a City Connect jersey.
Our Oakland city connect jerseys should be any of the yellow ones we’ve had over the years!
the yellow and black makes NO sense. That's not even in the color scheme for the city
Red Sox fan since 6th grade. I’m 46 years old. I love to hate the Yankees. That being said, that jersey is beautiful and I’d love to see it. Silly not to use it.
They wore black uniforms for players weekend a few years back. So this Yankee tradition crap is just that, crap.
City connect jerseys are horrendous. All of them.
Yep. This. ☝️
The fans don't like the star insurance patch just like we wouldn't like a city connect jersey.
Do they put it on both sides for switch hitters?
Stop hating. Pinstripes strong 💪
Every time I hear City Connect it's sounds like I'm reading or hearing about a drug deal. LOL
I get the As not having one. It would be a middle finger to Oakland. Yankees however need to remove the stick from a certain orifice
The city connect uniforms are for extra revenue, Yankees don't need the extra cash. Imagine calling Yankee Stadium like Wal-Mart Field, just like those stupid jerseys its never going to happen.
Except when it comes to junk ads on the uniforms. Then the Yankees suddenly pretend to need the money.
@@fantasticvoyage262 I agree but for 25 million for 7 years for that patch is worth it and hopefully it helps pay for Soto contract.
@@j.d.8160 It won't be the difference keeping Soto or not. And makes the team look like clowns.
Not a Yankees fan but damn those concepts look good.
Those ice cream sherbet uniforms of the Padres probably appeal to five-year-olds. But do five-year-olds buy merchandise?
I like the Yankees facial hair policy. Do you really want your son to look like Charlie Blackmon when he grows up?
No one cared how long Damon's hair was when he was helping the Red Sox win the World Series.
Respect for the Yankees and tradition. The other teams could learn about grooming. All the beards and stupid hair looks horrible.
MLB should tell A's owner to take a hike
Sorry Brodie we need more tradition not more jerseys to buy
10:30 that logo on yankees front jersey?
As a Yankee fan I LOVE the old-fashioned uniform rules, I hate the ad patch but would also hate a city connect or if they began putting names on the backs. I do think they need to let them grow beards though.
