I’ve always had this fascination with this book. It feels like one of those Goosebumps books with subtext and commentary going on. Ricky as a protagonist is no different than most wimp archetypes and the choices made lead himself down his own path. But what sells the book for me is how well it portrays peer pressure, societal expectations, and it almost comes off as a birth of a serial killer or sociopath by the end of it all. Ricky’s choice in the book by the end quite possibly is the best ending to a Goosebumps book of all time. And it isn’t even the most shocking twist or anything, but what it does for his character is satisfying and also harrowing as well. It leaves it so ambiguous I’m offended Stine has never made a sequel to it. I’d probably give this book (ballpark from memory) at least a 4.8/5 it could be higher if I reread it. God bless you Michael!
I liked this one. Ricky is very sympathetic and you feel very bad for him. One thing I never understood was why did the school hate Ricky so much? What did he do to make everyone hate him? He’s just a kid going to school. Also the scene where Ricky types that article in the paper was based on a real event that happened when Stine was in college.
Calling All Creeps has always been one of my favorite Goosebumps books, I really love the twist ending but the only issue I had is that it didn't explain where the creatures come from.
Goosebumps hardly ever explains where the monsters/threats come from so not really a big deal to me personally because that criticism can apply to basically every book in the series
Yea, most of the Goosebumps series doesn't do the whole monster origin thing ha, but some books do like Welcome To Dead House, A Bad Hare Day might have done it, and The Curse of Camp Cold Lake to name most maybe.
This is mostly had references most my favorite Part of movie title of "turning red." That was recently with main quest of title of "Turning Creeps.". I feel likes was ricky wanted help us, they are calling all creeps. Wanted us gets some eats dark chocolate chips cookies. I also realized tasha McClain's group of friends, want us be a planned. 1:27
A big favorite for me. There's so much to like, with the highlight being the ending. It's such a great shock moment on its own, shifting the story type in a strong way. And when you look on the rest, the ending fits even more with how Ricky was acting and how it fits his overall arc. It works on a few levels. It has some issues in minor ways but as a whole it's a strong one. The ending is the big reason it gets love but the rest is fun too. The ending is also good, argubly better but we'll get there.
Just finished reading "Calling all Creeps!" | enjoyed it. I thought the book was more silly than scary, but in a good way. I felt terrible for Ricky getting bullied by the whole school. The ending twist was great though, how Ricky finally gets his revenge. It was kind of a dark ending, but yet satisfying at the same time. I thought the descriptions of the creatures were neat too, classic goosebumps stuff. With that being said, it was a fun book, glad I read it. Anyway, great review bro! 📚🫶🏼🙏🏼
@@ABrianLewisVlog Gonna try to get them sometime soon. Biggest issue is that none of the big stores around me even sell anything that isn’t the original few SlappyWorld books. Bookstores suck so bad, now lol.
This is my all favorite Goosebumps book. The protagonist, the plot, the villains were really great and I found it very entertaining to read. The ending never really bothered me too much I would have liked it to have liked it if the book had a part two kind of like the Invasion of the Body Squeezers but never the less I found this book to be really engaging, fun, and suspenseful at certain times I would definitely give it a 5/5 without a doubt.

Yeah that's my question too. Why did the school hate Ricky so much? Did he kill their fathers or something? What's up with the hate?
Also sorry Michael, the ending in this is great and no where close to slappys nightmare.
One of my favorites from the OG62. Absolutely great story with an amazing twist. Wish there were more books like it in the franchise

I agree, it was one of the most immersive I found and was a perfect introduction for a younger me into the Goosebumps franchise 👍

Whatever that color is, it better be 70s brown. You have a nostalgia thing to uphold, sir 😄
