@@Diraldir because... this is the first time EVER ive seen someone mentioning him, without actively searching i think that might constitute popularity. hell, my mom thinks im great but single person does not concessus make. Also none of my comic friends never mentioned him and they always recommended comics
@@mariuszzwolak_It really just depends what eras and stylistoc legacies you are into, but in certain taste-sets it doesn't get much better than peak Williamson.
@@mariuszzwolak_ Just because he's not popularly known, doesn't mean he's not one of the greats. This is where a term like "hidden gem" comes in handy.
@@shefalichow7917 he is great to you and five other guys, I dont get it with you guys I used to hunt at any comic store before internet and try to find moebius I never found one, i recently found an amazing artist the goes by 17 different names Artifact or val lakey. They are great but only to boomers after they are gone they will great to no one. Lets be real recognition and concusses make you great in this society and your greatness will last otherwise it will disappear
I've always found it interesting when people feel they can pass offhand remarks such as these 10:07 so freely and effortlessly, when the original artist has no way to explain the context or defend themself (being passed on for quite some time).
32:20 That's interesting, I never heard that term. How is it spelled? Great review as usual, it shows that you thought about how Williamson drew and inked quite a lot... I knew that from Strange Death already, of course :) I believe one of the first things Prentice taught Williamson was how to draw men in suits- time to grow up! Enough with the jeans, tights and spacesuits... at least for a while! Now that I think of it, I would be interested in your thoughts on Prentice. There are a few artists who were so good at drawing specifically in a more famous artist's style that they get forgotten a lot. Leslie Turner is another one, or Cliff Sterrett's ghost- whose name escapes me, case in point...
Veudic. A weird one, but very helpful, Glyphic Vs. Veudic. Then Graphic vs Painterly and a few others. Prentice had balls and the chops to back them up. I have not read much of his work as it was not relevant to much of my SDOAR work, but I sure would love to have it all. The stuff I have seen is stunning. I wish there were one big effort to scan as much original art at high resolution as possible. Preserve those gems before they vanish.
AL Williamsons' star wars books are amazing, I have no idea how he is not one of the greats
Who said he isn't?
