How can they possibly offer you toast as a substitute and charge you for bread and butter? That’s an absolute rip off. They can’t possibly justify that for a breakfast.
That is ludicrous! I was bought up in a transport cafe in Kington Upon Thames and my dad would turn in his grave to see these over the top inflated prices that are about now!! I can see my dad now cooking the customers bubble and squeak and my mum serving the customers and Purim out the teas and coffee and honestly it was like one big happy family! 2 eggs, 2 sausages, bacon, bubble, mushrooms and beans £4.80 with tea and bread and butter and it was butter! That was 1982! As I grow older I think back on those days and how the world has changed! Love your vlogs and where you end up for your food! X

Totally agree!! Definitely looked good but 23 quid is highway robbery and a service charge at a cafe, that's absolute craziness. Hope all is well, take care

It’s London I mean up in the north where I live you can bet fish amd chips for £9. Down London you’ll be lucky to get them for under £20

When I visit my daughter in London I can’t go past the Kennington cafe or the corner cafe. Both do fried bread, great value and of course. Both off the charts, Thanks Darren 👍🏻

I haven't been to the UK in awhile, but I remember the dollar/pound exchange rate. This guy paid about $30 American for this breakfast. That is outrageous.
The crazy thing is that you could go to a Hilton hotel and have fresh fruit & yoghurt, cold meats & cheeses, porridge, pancakes, pastries, toast, juice and coffee/tea, plus a full English breakfast as much as you can eat for less than that. Any they will even make you a fresh omelette. I know cafes cook fresh and I prefer that if I can but in terms of value for money there is no comparison.!

Very harsh comments aimed at Darren here. Remember, this channel is a food revuew channel so he's showing us different places what are availble and at what price. Yes it was overpriced i wouldn't personally go there, but stop having digs at him for showing us these establishments. I'm personally very grateful for all of DJ's hard work he puts into these reviews in his spare time as when I'm next down in London, it'll give me ideas where to go and where to avoid.

Dazza you bent over in that cafe and paid out £22. There cannot have been more than £4 in ingredients there…took you to the cleaners Sir.
The sprinkling of green stuff on the eggs added £2 to the cost 😂 ps if im working around that area I use the cafe across the road

Outrageous that DJ nice breakfast but spoilt by the price of extras. Some while back a group of us went for a 'breakfast special' one guy asked for the special but without the beans, he was charged £1-50p more because it wasn't a special anymore because he left the beans out, madness, cheers.

I thought you'd been here recently, as I commented and you have reiterated everything I feel. Terry's used to be a great small local spot, they took over the butchers next door and got all high and mighty and their pricing policy is a mockery..

Worked in London as a tradesman for 37 years we used to hit the cafe once sometimes twice a day. Not any more. It has become to expensive and now bring in last nights leftovers and some fruit. Most cafes simply cannot justify their prices. Little while back stopped in a sandwich bar in Hatton Garden. Ordered a filled bap, £5.50.. Server said to me would I like some crisps on the side and some salad in the roll. I did think it strange that he would ask if I wanted salad in a filled bap but hey ho said yes. Bap turned up, underfilled, 1 slice of lettuce and 1 slice of tomato. AND, a portion of chips, not crisps. Went to pay and price went from £5.50 to £10.50. No drink. That's daylight robbery and I told him so. On my travels I do note that cafes are no where near as busy as they were back in the day when they were full of builders and trades getting their fill.
McD is cheaper. Cafes were taken over by tanned "others" and their version of food is utter slop. I drive for a living all over the place, north and south, and the best places are British owned-not always (I've had some God awful food) but, IMHO, if the cafe isn't run by British people you're not getting the same standard of health and hygiene we want.
Plus the prices are ALWAY higher in the places where they gather so my advice is don't eat in those places.
@@NathanielGarro-ru7du 100%, only in Nth London i don't know any British owned cafes, and i know a lot of cafes as we used them daily. All gone. We had a transport cafe close to where i live, it was next to an industrial estate and not kidding when i say the food was out of this world. Huge long counter with huge trays of steak and kidney pies, shepherds pie, mince and onion, liver and onions, proper british staples, all with heaps of mash and veg and slabs of bread and butter, the place was an institution and was there for years. And the breakfast, just WOW. The owners sadly sold up to Turkish people and that was the end of it. Still there but always empty, they inherited a winning formula that if they stuck with would have given them a good living but no. Now it's the pits. I can't think of one single decent British cafe now, all gone.
It's like a Ryanair ticket. When you add all the extras on you could of gone BA. If this place wants to keep regular customers it needs to formulate another pricing strategy.
Sam's cafe Acre Lane.Brixton. Blows anywhere else out of the water. For price and quality.

It looked like a decent breakfast, but I wouldn't go further than that. At £23 my expectations would not be matched by that.
Used to love Terrys years ago when the old chap was still behind the counter !

That’s funny…Gary from Gary Eats just had breakfast there the other day and had great food and a great experience…service charge is more than fair, but I’m from the states so there’s that! 👍🏻

Yeah prices are up everywhere nowadays but that seemed steep for what you had. I know our breakfasts in America here are different but most breakfasts here are like under $14… usually around $10 or so. Great review as always Darren!
Very few places offer fried bread which is a shame as I love it too. They were probably annoyed at having to cook some hence the high price lol

HeyDJ the " bubble" was amazing..... The eggs were "cracking". All washed down with a "proper" cup of tea..... 🙂

You won't get a more honest you tuber than Gary eats. They probably had two very different experiences. Two people can be right at the same time. I don't get this comparison.
Heck a lot of mushrooms and sausages only seem part cooked on the top.
That is a nice breakfast DJ but too expensive, around Wolverhampton 7 quid to 10 quid for that.
even £15 for the regular is too much. as for complaining about being charged extra, the prices are right there on the menu, so ….why complain when they’re upfront about the price? it was YOUR choice!
Is the service charge instead of tipping or is tipping also expected ? Better to stick to the menu than try and get the breakfast you fancy. Deviate from the menu and expect to get shafted. Side orders added to you meal are always expensive.

Fantastic content as ever dj im 54 yrs old and i can relate to your vlogs and your reviews are spot on , if u break it down its a disgrace that price for example if u walked in and ordered 1 sausage 1 egg and 1 slice of fried bread with a cup of tea they are gonna charge u £6 thats just a complete piss take but they are taking it a step further by already charging £13 for the breakfast !! Unbelievable at least it was tasty but for 23 quid u could buy those ingredients and have that same meal everyday for at least a week !
That looked a good plate of food, just on the expensive side though. At my local garden centre in the Midlands, I pay £10.45 for a full English, 2 bacon, 2 eggs, 2 cumberland sausage, beans, tomatoes & mushrooms, which also includes 2 toast and tea or coffee.
We visited last Saturday and the breakfast was delicious and excellent quality. The Borough breakfast wasn’t on there . I had the blowout for £12.80 which included 2 eggs 3 rashers of bacon, sausage, bubble, and beans or tomatoes. Toast was £1 for two slices of quality bread . To be fair the extras are all priced on the menu . The staff and service were excellent too and will definitely be back. Lots of cafes in London are pricey for breakfast and this is worth it for the quality. A great location good pubs nearby for a drink afterwards.

These cafe reviews are all over RUclips which makes them popular with tourists who go once and never go back. The tourists don’t care because one £20 fry up is part of being in London. They don’t know it’s a bit of a rip off. The owners of these places are taking the pi$$ but until people stop going it will just keep happening.
Always brown sauce because I am a grownup, but charging that much just destroys the eating experience.

just work out the ingredients cost price probably 2,80 for what you had at a 68percent profit would sell at 12.80 so the price wasnt obscene ,but the xtras 2 quid a sausage2 quid an egg ect is a rip off seeing that the cost price of an egg is about 12 p and a sausage is about 25 p it would have been fairer to charge 2 pound for both not each ,thats both at 68 percent so the cafe is still making its margin ,im afraid they took advantage of your good nature and they had the temerity to charge service is quite galling,

Ho my god a cafe, just a cafe, is adding a service charge whatever next! Also every extra was £2, do they charge for air? You could have toast but not fried bread? Dont forget to tip the driver on the bus! Do they charge £2 for each extra to make it easier for them to add up. When you said no tomatoes you should have knock £2 off the bill. I am raging About this place!

I live near Terry's cafe and everyday they have punters outside waiting.They now operate a virtual queuing system also and can charge what they like has most punters will

Yes I was there recently and found that the breakfast was less impressive thatn it used to be . The menu says all their eggs are fried but it also says you can have poached or scrambled. No swaps allowed . Well of course. you wouldn't want the customers to get the idea that the cafe was there for their benefit. And then the service charge. In a cafe? There should be a sign saying (We'll cook your breakfast for £15.50 but we'll charge another £2.00 to bring it out so you can eat it. :D )

A decent full English in London should set you back between £8-12. That always includes tea or coffee and bread & butter. Gone are the days of a £4.50 set 5 ( with chips ) … having said that I worked in horseferry rd for years and so of course had lunch at the regency , I don’t think they ever bumped the price up cos of celebrity connections , just the location and sheer demand at lunch time, due to the fast service and quality food. Any business would do the same. When you always have a queue it’s obvs you can put up the price 😊
Sometimes less is more , we all know London is expensive compared with other parts of the UK , wouldn’t be for me personally but glad you shared the experience and people can make up their own minds %

£13+ is too much, in my opinion. There is only so good a fry can be. Unless they make it at the standard of your homemade fry, it is minus £10 or I'm out of there. Them big prices are for tourists and groovy hipster types. Great reviews, keep them coming 😊
