I just realized that you and I went to the same high school in utah, we were in the same choir class and your friend would always bring a monitor and gamecube with melee. You guys would always play before class ended. Anyway, really love the videos. 👍

From personal experience gimps that they don’t know about or expect do wonders. By the time they catch on set is nearly over. A lot of people like to shield at ledge when I hang with bowser so I will drop down and up and side b when I’m up a stock high percent. Even tho they are lower percent they can’t di away once bowser grazes the bottom of stage and they die

Same here, though I'm still low in the local scene, since I only started playing competitively in September.
Best thing about this is that it doesn’t only apply to smash but nearly everything that has tourneys and even a bit about life
6:16 BRO I swear I thought I was the only one who genuinely enjoys just typing stuff for the heck of it. This was actually really awesome to hear! It really isn't the weirdest thing ever and I wish people did it more. Thanks for the confidence boost!

I think I've come back to this video like 15 times already, and yet I always take away something new from it. Thanks.
That tip to accept everything that happens is genuinely one of the most helpful pieces of advice I've found for Smash, it's helped me out a lot. Even if I die to a Thwack at 50%, now I think "I shouldn't have let him pull up menu" instead of "Hero is so stupid"
Wow I learned a lot about myself even outside of gaming in this video. Thank you I appreciate you
Me: *Interesting in BB content and wanting to know how to win tournies in the eyes of a professional*
BannanaBoy: Get good
Hey BananaBoy, thank you for including my region's PR graphic (South Carolina) in your video! That's super hype!
I went to dreamhack Dallas couple days ago and got beat up so bad in Smash these tournament Players are having a whole nother level
I'm gonna sweat on the other guys controlling stick to win a tournament
Thank you for this video I don't think I'll ever make top 10 or anyting but it's fun to try
Love your videos, trying to get better and they help a ton. Be the best in my region might be a bit tough though. I live in MA so there is a player here you might of heard of that is gonna be a but of a challenge. Still striving towards it though. I'm coming for you Marss!
This guy is spot on. Pretty rare for someone so young to understand the competitive mind and beyond so well.
A lot of this is great advice!
My biggest issue with my local scene is that the venue has crappy, laggy setups. I haven’t competed in 2 months because of it. That itself is extremely tilting. Not that the fact that I’m losing (in top 8’s), but the fact that I have to fight the laggy setups.
Idain input lag. The delay is almost unplayable.
Idain The monitors are “supposed” to be high quality gaming monitors, but the input lag on them feels like I’m playing in sludge. I was losing to jank I normally don’t because of the input lag.
I tried mentioning this to people in my local discord and others felt the same way.
Idain Lol I’ve tried. They just told me that “It must be me because the monitors *shouldn’t* be doing that.”
took this video to heart and ended up pulling some massive upsets to get 2nd at my local when i havent even gotten top 4 at it before haha thinking positively really helped
I love this guides.
As smasher I learn A LOT and as a miku lover I find songs I didn't listen.

As a smasher from Alaska, I can attest that the polar bear matchup can be very daunting

“Practically every region has only one Yoshi”

Yes true tho
I always struggled with my composure at tournaments, and music always calmed me down. It was still pretty bad though. Somebody gave me the advice of getting used to 1 song on repeat and it has completely changed the way I play at tournaments. My results have been better ever since.
What (almost) every bananaboy video has
1: a mention of another one of his videos.
2: A way to counter one of his other videos.
3: mentioning how he explains something more in another video than he does in the video playing.
Thx for the video, right now my goal is to reach the Venezuelan PR and atm I'm considered the 2nd best Mario in Venezuela, your videos have helped me a lot to get better at the game and get better results in tournaments, I hope I can reach my goal soon
I started do a lot of this stuff a month or so ago, went 0-2 at my local, started doing these things and then went 2-2. I’ve only gotten better since then and solving the character crisis definitely helps as well, finding a character this fits is very important
Man, i wish i lived in utah. It would be nice to meet a youtuber, let alone play a game that practically saved my childhood with someone who loves the game just as much as me. I'm 17, but i hope to compete in any tournaments in my state (indiana) i can for smash ultimate either next year or the year after.
I had just yesterday gone to my monthly local and had ended up getting 9th (winners quarters) and I was thinking about this a lot. Mental stamina and getting flustered midmatch are my biggest issues right now and these tips were exactly what I needed. Thank you bananaboy, keep making these awesome videos!
Man, tournaments always seemed like a ton of fun. I really want to try them out (even if I'm trash at the game), but there is LITERALLY not even a SINGLE ONE in my ENTIRE DUCKING COUNTRY.
make one, find people in your region online or get friends into it and eventually other people will show up to the tournaments
this was much needed since I recently entered a tournament after almost 3 years of a Haitus
But what I want to comment on more is the good choice of Hibana as the end song
Well i posted a comment about a Year ago when i first watched this video, i came back to it frequently, and i can finally say that i made PR in my Region ! I'm getting consistent top 8 at locals in my region and got my first top 8 outside of it ! Thanks for your videos they've been amazingly useful for me
Going to my first local weekly my this Thursday and going to a bigger tournament on January 11. Really looking forward to them and trying to not go 0-2.
He mentions doing typing tests as his side thing, another good one I use is solving a rubix cube. It helps alot with pattern recognition, structure, and hand dexterity! Give it a shot, it's also fun to learn and you can do it almost anywhere
The weighted blanket was the best advice I heard in this video lol. Those really take away stress.
How have I not subscribed to you yet? I've watched like 2/3 of your Smash videos. Here, have a subscriber.
My thing is just do my best and have fun in tournaments cause I don't really care about winning or losing only thing I be here in tournaments is to be the best player of having fun for respect and awesome video
5:40 That is the biggest one for me. I've always been bad at this. Even as a kid, I could barely manage 3 hours playing before feeling like death! Friendlies are good before pools to get warmed up, but even that can exhaust me sometimes.
#2 was directly geared toward me for the high school showdown. good vid
Just came back from my first local tournament a few days ago and i was a few games from getting into top 32. I blame myself being too shy and not asking anyone to play friendlies. I'll definitely use these tips next tournament I go to.
Bro I got a weighted blanket last year for my birthday and its hands down the best gift ever.
As someone who both runs a college Esports group and goes to alot of locals, I tend to break it down into sections.
If a local tends to have extremely good or flat out rude players, then I’ll just go for the social aspect.
If I’m traveling to another state or a pretty large event then I’ll focus/practice in getting good results and understand the players/characters for that event.
Bananaboy: be better then the average player!
Me, who is trying to get as good as the average player: bruh
A good mentality is the single most limiting problem I have with this game. I've been a sore loser when it comes to video games starting from a very young age, and became a bit of a perfectionist during my school years, so learning to put my ego aside and to focus on the comeback or even just taking the L when it's over is proving to be very difficult. I also learned to the play the game in a very lax, unfocused way because the only friend I ever played in smash 4 was below my skill level, but when I really put in the effort to focus on the game, forget my pride, and just play my damn heart out I truly surprise myself with what I can pull off: 0-80 combos and 3 stocks that I previously never could've imagined myself ever achieving. The thing is, that every time you complain midset, you've forgone a chance to adapt because your mind is thinking about how stupid it was that you got hit by it AGAIN rather than on how to not get hit next time, and for me personally this creates a sort of vicious cycle in friendlies where I complain instead of adapt, play worse as a result, and complain even more, then I'm not focusing on improving or adapting but rather I'm playing just to repair the hit to my ego / pride. Not being able to accept my losses and the bs that happens midmatch makes and keeps me angry, but my ego keeps me playing anyway despite the fact that I'm not focused at all and having no fun. I'm playing for the past rather than for the future, and I think that's a recipe to play at your absolute minimum skill and halt any possible improvement.
If you have a poor mindset but do really enjoy the game when actually trying your best, I'd definitely recommend putting in the time to change it. It can hinder your play more than you might think.
My local meta is Ness. And this one guy who destroys everyone with Ken.
He sits in training mode doing a zero to death on pichu repeatedly before tournament. It's very intimidating.
The fun part, is that some of this tips are pretty much general between any competitive game
Woah youre in Utah aswell? Ive had a hard time finding local tourneys here. Makes me happy to know theres a smash scene here
Almost at 100k! Keep going!
Oh shit I have my first local in a few days, thanks for helping me beat PGR players, BananaBoy I appreciate it!
I appreciate the guide, but the DECO*27 music was the best motivating tip of all.
the reason toast always lands on the jelly side is because the jelly is adding weight to one specific side of the toast, so therefore when the toast falls out of your hand, or off the plate, the jelly will pull down on the toast thus making the jelly side fall on the floor ❤️
Thank you Banana Boy, very epic!
I am going to a tournament this Friday that is made up of a bunch of my friends and this video helped!
Also yoshi main here. Thanks for tips. I will try to make you proud papa

You know what would be a great outro
Lost one's weeping ft Rin
please try to do "how to read patterns" and "how to improve your mental game"
That would help a lot..
I can give you a small rundown as someone who wins his locals and is PR in his region
1.When it comes to reading patterns you have to notice what you're getting hit by most and there's really no other way to explain it there's a lot more specifics.Like their approach options and tools to condition.Notice what moves they are throwing out most and for what situations and if you call one out then it becomes a game of mix ups.
2.In terms of mental game things such as avoiding getting tilted it's all about accepting and understanding why something is happening. The biggest is just accepting for example getting hit by a luigi combo and getting mad you have to be prepared that you'll take all that damage.Mental game improves over time and there's a lot more to these 2 categories but you can ask more questions and be more specific if you'd like.
@@sunny_dany i already knew the basics of this kind of things and i just wanted another point of view.

Hey, could you give us some tips to help us deal with people that want you to switch characters because ‘they can’t deal with your spamming’ or ‘you’re too good just pick another one, it’s not fair’? Thanks. Enjoyed the vid, too! :)
Toast always lands on the jelly side either because A: The jelly side is much heavier, which means that that side falls faster than the "blank" side (think badminton birdies), or B: Anime.
Step 1 to winning at smash:
Don’t get hit
It's been since the start of Ultimate that I started playing Smash, your videos always helped me a lot and my goals are getting closer and closer each day thanks to investment and THIS kind of video, I want to make my name heard by the end of 2022 and I'll get there, thank you for making such cool content and keep it up !
i’ve been meaning to ask u if u could make a video on how not to get anxious during an important match (aka game 5 losers finals) when i’m playing game 3 or game 5, i cant edge guard well cause i’m afraid of messing up and accidentally SDing or getting reverse edge guarded by my opponent. how do I fix this? it would be great to a video pertaining to this topic! thx
As someone who was born and raised in Alaska, I can tell you that Car vs Moose is by far the more common matchup
In Alaska we don’t really have a smash Sean all we really do is play for fun
man imma be honest i came here for the hibana outro more than the tournament advice

2:36 Oh boy allow me to introduce you to the MD/VA Yoshi Gang.
Yo, my yoshi bretheren (im from long island)
The toast example really got me thinking
I play Tetris and Minesweeper for my mental stability I didn’t even think about how it’s helping in that aspect until now.
Banana boy : “every region has a Yoshi “

Ok?
Can you make a video on how to play aggressive because I feel like I play too passive against other people.
As a player in Wyoming, where only 30 people show up a week, I’m proud to say that I have finished top 13 in all but the first event last semester. Top half in the rankings. Trying to figure out how to beat our PT and Lucina, who are top 2 by a mile.
Contrary to common belief, it's nothing to do with one side being buttered. The explanation is that as the toast goes over the edge of the plate, it starts to rotate, but the spin-rate is too slow to bring the butter-side uppermost again by the time the toast hits the floor.
4:57 Thanks for showing me that anime it really funny 😆
