- Want to know what the difference is between the different physical fitness test in the US military? In this video a give a breakdown of the minimum standards each branch of the military requires for an individual to pass. I go in depth with a lot of it but also I still don't cover every aspect. Just what i feel is necessary to give you a good comparison.
* Keep in mind that the content in this video is intended for a general understanding of the topic. Im a US army veteran with over 10 years in the Army but some information in this video may not be included for time purposes. One of my friends said he would try all the fitness tests and which ever one he found easiest he would that branch
He joined the Air Force
(This is not a joke he actually did this)
Well..like...hey. he made a choice. 😉👍
One of my college friends in Air Force ROTC challenged me to run their test, because im currently training for USMC OCS. I scored a 96.... while i had the flu.
@really sore knee Honor code bro. I promise. I remember because my fever broke and i was on the last of the cold and flu meds i keep in my emergency kit.
He's a god
Saw a clip of basic training and most of them weren't even doing pushups right...
I get the physical differences between men and women, but one standard I never understood was the run. It was explained to me that women get more time because they tend to be shorter on average and therefore have shorter strides. If that's the case, why not make height brackets instead? For example, as a short guy, I remember huffing and puffing trying to get a decent time while watching a tall female with gazelle-like legs breeze her way to a max score. I'm not trying to start a battle of the sexes with this comment, but this standard makes more sense to me if it was based on height rather than gender. Is there anyone with insight as to why gender makes more sense in this case? Like some kind of anatomy difference I'm not considering?
hey, short guy here and I completely agree with what you are saying
I Agree!
Women's legs attach to their pelvises at a bit more of an angle than men's to accommodate the birth canal, so they have a less efficient stride. That being said, though, you are probably right in that height probably has a bigger impact than that, and height-based brackets would make sense.
@@maddie9602 That's the kind of insightful response I was looking for. Thank you.
Perhaps the answer lies in creating height scales for both men and women, then equating them with some kind of offset to account for stride efficiency like a few inches. For example, a 5'7" man gets the same time as a 5'10" woman. Whatever the offset is measured to be such that each has to put in the same amount of effort.
There is 10% more body fat (average, minimum), but on the other hand that upper body strength is not much help when running, so yes
WhAt AbOuT tHe SpAcE fOrCe?? Lol sorry
I think they have to do 100,000 push ups in zero gravity in 2 minutes. ;) lol

All these people are talking about how oh this branch is better than that branch. Well suck it up we are all fighting for the same cause. In today's world people forget about what the U.S Military is really about. Thank you to all of the people who are putting there lives on the line for the people sitting at home. 🙏
We can all fight with the same goals in mind. Doesn’t change the fact that the Air Force by far has the easiest pt test out of the 4 branches. Nobody forgot what the military is about. We just like calling each other soft. Especially if you’re the Air Force.lol
It’s mostly like sibling rivalry. The Marines see them selfs as modern Spartans. Everyone serves a purpose, we just do it cleaner and quicker. Things like that. Except for the chAir Force
Yeah its mainly playfull banter
@@Travis-tq7vr yeah right 55 push ups in 2 minutes lol just a lot of talk son in air Force 1 minute 80 push ups each man is to there own
The guys out their with me are my brothers I’m gonna beat down and make jokes at their expense and I’m gonna be a big ass dick to them but at the end of the day we are one giant family and i have their back and they have mine.
I think men and women should be held to the same standard in PT tests
With the Army’s new PT test that will be Army wide by 2020 it will be. Same standard for men and women and all ages. Just different standards based on your job.
I don't think that would work. Men have naturally and less fat and more physical strength than a woman and making the standards the same would make barely any women pass due to the differences
If the females want to they can go beyond the standard you know
i wonder how many women actually go beyond the standard.
@@mauriciorv228 but in a war zone do you want some that be less physical fit and be a detriment to you
I think hands down you have the best military geared channel, keep it up bro.
Marines pull up event makes the difference. Go Army. If you want to go to airborne school you better be able to do 10 pull ups as you do them before you eat. If you do not complete 10 you go to the back of the line at the D-Fac and have the shortest time to eat..
Maybe things have changed since I went to Army Jump School in 2014 but for the Airborne School physical test a 30 sec Flex Hang is required, not a pull up. That is you pull up with your chin past the bar then you hold for at least 30 seconds. This is averagely the longest time you will have to hold up your parachute harness when you are ready to land (PLF- Parachute landing Fall). So for Airborne School it was Push Ups, Sit-ups, Run and a 30 sec Flex hang to pass.
I went to aborne school in the mid 1990s and you did pullups then.
david wagner bro I was doing 10 pull ups in high school I can do 30 now back to back then I get boerd and tired and quite

One thing you didn’t touch on is at least for the Air Force (not sure about other branches) is that you have to score a composite score of at least 75 to pass. This means that if you score just the minimum for more than one event, you will still fail because you wont score at least 75 points.
ARS RAVENS I can't speak for everyone but army breaks it up so you can do the minimum in each event and pass. Some special schools do require higher than the minimum though
I know that this is true for the USMC. You can fail on an event or on your total score.
For the marines, each event is out of 100 points. So you could have a total of 300 to ace it. 225 is the minimum passing score
What this person means is that some MOS selections have physical ratings of X which will determine what is expected of you to score on. Obviously a Special Forces Candidate is going to be required to score the highest possible score on this PT test . Whereas a support role that isn't going to be doing as much, or required to do as much isn't going to have a PT score requirement that's anywhere close to Spec Ops Candidates.
Yeah he also forgot to mention the nice AC room you get to"PT" in :)
Great video brother. Very informative with easy to understand comparisons. I should've joined the AF... heard they also have air conditioning...
Thanks for the info in your videos. Much Appreciated.
I've watched quite a lot of your vids and love em!!! I am proud to say I bought 3 shirts from you.
All branches have their different hardships. You have two different types of vets. The ones that act as if theirs is tougher than the others, which are assclowns. Then you have the ones that respect each branch.
In the Marine Corps, there is no pull up, push up trade off. These are completely opposite muscle groups.
Even before the PFT begins, the warm up exercises (which usually includes bends and thrushs, mountain climber ["Dig"] and leg lifts) that are done, are already draining the endurance of any weaker Marines.
Once the PFT begins, you can do your pull ups first or, elect to do sit ups (you can put your hands either on your chest or behind your head, if you choose - max is 80 in 3 min). Pull ups can be done over or under handed; chin must break over the bar, arms must end straight, at the bottom (max is 20).
After the last man is done with pull ups or sit ups, everyone begins the 3 mile run at the same time. There is no recuperation time given and max is an average of 6 minutes per mile (18 minutes).
Because it is all done without breaks, it is the accumulation that breaks down the endurance of those who won't train or are in need of physical/medical screening.
Maximum or "maxing the PFT" in the Corps is; 20 pull ups, 80 sit ups, 3 miles in 18 minutes *or less.
Get Some...
Thank you very much
Its now Crunches, caps at 115 in 2 minutes, (after CY 22, all future crunches will be replaced by planks for 3:45) and 23 pull-ups until muscle faliure for a max score
The sequence of events are also locked in per MCO, there is no such thing as picking what event to do first anymore.
I like your videos Brother. I’m a Marine Corps Veteran. Stay putting good content out Killer.
It is complicated. (Because of all the different age brackets)But a good breakdown for a person interested in the pt score. Thanks CC!
Sounds like the Army is perfect for a person to stay in shape, but not over do it. The Marines physical fitness is made for only young people, under 20, but I think you can do the Army physical test well into your 60's, and the Air Force, well theirs has shorter time limits, so not sure if it's easier or more difficult, and the Navy does their pt indoors, so it's easier in an air conditioned gym.
marines is for basically people who are going to be used as shock troops in a war basically blast through enemy defenses as fast as possible and take as much area as possible
nah we do ours outdoors in the navy at least in yokosuka we do
Debra Mcjunkin I’ve watched Navy take theirs outside at a base in Virginia.
UNDER 20? Thats pathetic, for an average person who DOESN'T work out you should reach the height of your muscularity at about 25.
@Kodiak, Keep drinking the Kool-aid kid, the only shock troopers in the U.S. Military are Army Rangers. Not jarhead Marines. Marines are too small and not funded enough to be "shock troopers". Only thing Marines have are their uniforms. That's why so many Marines leave the Corps and join the Army. They know where the real sugar is at.
Marines run test is harder than the Army by your own definition of what the run test evaluates...'endurance'. 8 min. Mile?...9 min. Mile?...whatever the case...in the Corps you are still forced to 'endure' one more sucky mile of it. Believe me when I say that your old knees 25 years later don't really care how fast you ran it...they ache based on how long you pounded them...Airborne Training didn't help either btw...
-Semper Fi
That's why the army doesn't do a 3 miler for the test. It wrecks the knees. Not good for unit readiness if half the company is on profile for knee injuries or a career shortened. Personally the run is retarded. It should be like a 1/4 mile sprint or 1/4 mile buddy carry, both done in full battle rattle. Something you actually do in combat. No one has ever run 2 miles in pt gear in combat, under fire. Or how about a 10 meter double ammo can shuttle run as the cardio test? While i am at it push ups and especially sit ups (as they wreck the lower back over time) should be taken out as well. Instead maybe pull up again in full battle rattle and knee raises to replace push/sit ups.
Er reh
Lol. Or how the next guy yells it. Ur!!
@@chaddlindsay9909 I just wanted to give my two cents on push ups. If you keep your back flat and are keeping good posture, then you should have no problem with pain in the lower back.
Keep up the good work, love the videos.
The Marine PFT for a perfect score of 300 back in the 80s used to be ;
3 mile run .... 18 minuets or less.
Pull ups 20.
Sit-ups 80 in 2 minuets or less.
Never did max the run best I ever did was 21 minuets the rest no big deal. If you wanted to try and go to Recon you better have a 300 PFT every time. As a Communicator it was a little easier to get in. Also the infantry MOS wanted you to be a Corporal to be considered and as a Communicator as L/CPL. Times they are a changing!
Semper Fi
jordan taylor now we do 23 pull-ups for perfect pft
OORAH!
For 300 PFT for these days are now 23 pull ups, 110+ crunches, 18 min 3 mile
jordan taylor still the same
Got out about 13 years ago, it was 18 min 3 mile, 20 pull ups (no kipping) and 100 crunches (shoulders on ground to elbows on thighs).
Let me hazard a wild guess, standards are lowered for women?
Fine when they were banned from frontline roles, but now?
Jonathan Burns Marines dont allow women in combat roles still

Not true anymore.
Jonathan Burns it is true... at least in the Army I’m still in.

Jonathan Burns Women in combat arms jobs in the army have to meet the male standard
Dude..I'm definitely joining Army after highschool. Its been a dream of mine! Thanks for the info Chris
Last Patriot You can join the Army your junior year through your state's Army National Guard. You still train through the Army. Check it out. You get great benefits and get over a year of service in before graduating.
Thanks for making this. I'm trying to make a workout segment for my characters in this book I'm writing, and wanted to try and make it realistic. Even though they're borderline super human haha. Cheers!
Good job on the mins. Would like to see a comparison of the requirements for max scores.
Former Marine and a current Boston Marathon Qualifier, the last mile of a 3 mile (5k) is a HUGE deal. At 1.5 and 2 miles I can ignore acid build up and only worry about blood oxygen. Generally there is about a 30 second per mile difference in pace for every jump in a race tier.
To infer a 5k is easier than a 2 miler because of a pace differences is highly misleading.
Given the many years since I did all of that basic PT stuff in the Navy, I thought my experience was comparatively easier than what my brother experienced in the Marine Corps or what a dear friend of mine experienced in the Army. Yeah, us Navy guys had it much easier as I reflect back on it.
Things have changed
8 (Viet Nam era) years in the Navy and the only PT I did was in boot camp.
At Class A schools, we marched to class.
Most of my exercise was going up and down ladders from the 09 level, many times caring heavy test equipment
Yo please tell me more about the navy seems that no ones knows about it
Hey Battle. Great vid. I'm in the Army and I think the Marines have the W when it comes to PT test difficulty... 3 miles are 3 miles!!!
Bro, I'm a former Marine getting ready to go Army. Let me tell you, the Army 2 mile is no joke!
If you can run 15:54 in 2 miles, you should be able to pass the minimum 3 mile run in 27 minutes and vice versa. I served in the Army and Marines lol. Marines going to Army have issues with doing the sit ups correctly and the non-airborne Soldiers will have some issues with pull ups (before the push up option came out).
lol, easily, 12 full minutes to run a mile, for me that is walking.
Bubba O every male should be able to do 10 pull ups without even being in good shape. 4? I can do 4 after a full pulling workout.
Aye bro how did go from Army to marines ??
It's called reenlisting.
Bubba O my quickest time is 2 miles in 13:21

@@macburger5026 Yup, here in rotc the air force guys dont even have proper uniforms until they contract. They do pt like once a week and whatever, its so lax. But thats the reason why I joined the army, I wanted the challenge
For Security Forces, we still do normal squadron PT with 3-5 mile gear runs, ruck marches, formation runs, and other things. Sometimes we'll even incorporate PT from other branches like the Marine combat fitness test. We like to be different from the rest of the Air Force.
@@samd7476 Only 5 miles? Damn even you special guys have it easy

HOW BOUT THAT NEW ARMY COMBAT FITNESS TEST LOL looking like they want to recreate an nfl combine
For the ARMY; how can you score a perfect score with the fitness test? The minimums will be really easy for me. Thanks for the great content!
AST has a physical fitness test. Tactical teams have a test. Everyone has the same test they have to pass at boot camp. For Coast Guard. It would be any different the what SF would have compared to a regular soldier.
The PFT for every Coast Guard members for men under 30
29 push-ups in one minute
38 sit ups in one minute
1 1/2 mile run in 12:51 (note time is the same on all terrains) flat track or hills
Sit and reach for flexibility.
Push, yourself to the limit always work...🤔
Is it me or does the Air Forc push-up test seem harder than the others
Anthony Colasanto it doesss i thought i was the only one
you should do one video about the coast guard fitness tests with all of them covered
Hey Chris nice vid! Makes me feel really out of shape lol.
Video suggestion: do a video about what happens when you get into trouble and disciplinary actions. Article 15, extra duty, demotions, etc. and even UCMJ if it’s that bad. My friend told me his brother enlisted and once he got to BCT he hated it and actually tried his best to get “kicked out” by not doing anything the drill sergeants told him to do. He eventually got moved to a discharge unit, but the commander there denied his discharge and he had to restart BCT. I think it would be an interesting topic to cover.
I have that topic on my list of videos to make, just have not gotten around to making it yet. Maybe soon though. Thanks man!!!
This topic is so broad honestly. A lot depends on your leadership and the unit your in. You could be in a s-1 clerk position and your leadership might not care about certain fuck ups, but then you’re in a line unit or infantry and they take shit a lot more serious. Pretty much don’t quit and just do what you’re told unless you know it’s not an ethical order. Like if an nco told you to take you’re shirt off and wave it around you’re head you wouldn’t have to follow that, it’s an stupid example but something that demonstrates the point
Christopher Chaos cool looking forward to it!
Matt Dan chris usually covers topic in a very basic and broad way. Yes obviously disciplinary actions vary widely and can depend on the discretion of the unit and leadership but I think it’s still a topic worth discussing especially for new soldiers.
Christopher Chaos looking like a badass operator.
That's wrong women should have to do the same you want to play lumberjack learn to handle your end of the log
Alex Severson Agreed if women werent in combat roles then it wouldnt be as big of an issue but they are and they should be held to the same standard as men.
@@vital6006
Honestly you are stupid. Lol
in the infantry every soldier should do the same standard. I want every soldier left and right of me to be able to fireman carry me a mile back to base.
@@tasteyq6538 More like you're stupid you snowflake. Are you triggered about the truth
In combat MOS schools, women are required to meet exactly the same standards as their male counterparts. It's only in basic training that the standards are adjusted by age and gender. I scored 243 on the male's scale as a human resources specialist and kept up with the Army's version of the Crucible (literally the same thing with a different name). You guys saying we're too weak are idiots. The male's PT requirements aren't hard to meet.
my phys. ed. teacher learned that 7 of us had delayed entry enlisted. he informed us on the first day of our senior year we were all in the same class for a reason, we would get 40 weeks of his undivided attention. He was a retired Gunny who had been a D.I. at Parris Island
Hey Chris, some possible video suggestions:
Punishments such as a Article 15, NJP, Courtmartial and the criteria for them
Different discharges: Honorable, Less than honorable, dishonorable and the criteria for them
Keep up the great content brother.
Medals for Valor and the criteria for receiving them. Bronze Star to the Medal of Honor and some of the perks for being a MOH recoeptiant.

Thanks for the suggestions. I already have a video that talks about awards to a point. I do have the topic of punishment in the Army on my list of videos to do. Thanks for watching!!!
Christopher Chaos I look forward to that video as I do all your videos. You have great content!
It officially called an “other than honorable discharge”. It’s given to someone that did not fulfill there contract but also did not get kicked out of the Army.
If you get the minimum in every event in the Marines, you fail. There's also a minimum score associated with the PFT.
Right! You would need to do much better than the minimum pushups and situps in order to get away with this minimum-score run time and still pass the PFT.
My pft score was always a first class 20 pull-ups 100 crunches in two minutes and an 18 min 3 mile if you can’t keep a 1st class pft in the corps your military career is going to suck especially in the infantry MOS
Hey aztecUSMC, how did you get your run time down to sub 18 minutes?
Woah!!... That is what's called n the military, a motivator lol and 100 is the max to those who don't know. Wish I were listening at RTC... and A school...and at Field Med when they said that, if they did. I was proud when I did my best of 118 n 2 minutes n only heard everyone else getting up to 100 thought I was a motivator till my spotter said 100. I quickly corrected him n said it was 118, corporal..i can still feel his look of... "whata dumbass" that he gave me.. haha
Can you do a vid on us Army fitness standards through out history. And fitness standards across military service around the world.
The fitness test for the Coast Gaurd boot camp is 29 push ups in one minute and 38 crunches in one minute. The run is 1.5 miles in 12 minutes.
I think the corps has the hardest PT test cause every marine is a rifle man or machine gunner . not only that but the marine's are the first ones in and the last ones out.
Seimper fi hoorraaa !!!
What the hell does being a rifleman, or a MG have to do with whose PFT is harder??! First ones in? To what??! Dude, have you ever even served?! LMAO!!!

LMAO!!!
USMC Repels seimper fi means always faithful and hooraaa is the corps battel cry lol now look who's laughing here's one more for ya the force recons motto is Swift silent and deadly
I know that the navy actually has two different main fitness tests, the prt (the one you described meant for most of the fleet), and the pst (for naval special warfare). The pst consists of a 500 yard swim, 2 mins of pushups, 2 mins of situps, pullups, and a 1.5 mile run. The numbers you need and the stroke you can use during the swim depends on your program.
At least you mentioned the coastguard.
The Army has a special fitness test for soldiers looking to go to Ranger School, which is pretty heavy duty.
The Air Force has it the worse. I’m 29 years old and am still held to the same PT standards as I was when I was 19, and we only get one minute to complete the respective assessments. Also, we can make all the minimums but still fail the fitness exam based upon our accumulative score. (Which goes for some other branches as well)
You think your enemy will be fair with you ... Grow stronger 💪 fuck sakes I can do the 1.5 in 15 just a tad faster then walking pace and and I'm 34 .........bless
I never heard about Marines being able to substitute pushups for pull ups...
Never heard that either. Served 6 years in the corps and never got the option to do pushups. PFT was always pull ups, sit ups, and run
I realize this is hella late but here goes lol. It seems that it's not technically an "option" to substitute pullups for pushups. They only make you do pushups if you fail the pullups? I'm just a poolee still but that's how the ISTs are held for us. Not sure how it goes down in bootcamp.
Yeah, the marines changed up some rules. Back then, you couldn't substitute pull ups with push ups
Same here, I was wtf it’s he talking about?
I don’t know about the other branches, but in the army the exercises were done consecutively with a minimum rest period between exercises. So, if you push-ups till you can’t raise your arms you then have to sit down minutes later and do sit-ups until you can’t do any more, then go run two miles minutes later, while your hip flexors are numb. Thought I would point that out in case anyone wanting to join thought it was an all day process with hours of rest in between events.
I think that adding "US military" would be more accurate to the video. Though it might make a cool video to compare fitness tests of other nations compared to US.
looking like a pmc...I really thought i would see a blackwater logo 😀
ONLY FOUR PULL-UPS? What the hell??!!?!? Update this when the super duper awesome cool uber elite SPACE FORCE creates their fitness test. And now that women want to be treated like equals, we can throw away the different standards and expect them to keep up, right? RIGHT?
I agree. If I were to go into a military branch, I would want to be able to hold my own and watch others backs. I would not want to drag others down because special rules were placed for women.
If you only get 4 pull ups in a PFT. You get your teeth kicked in. And you will get placed on “Platoon BCP”. It’s basically just your Corporals will make you get 20+ every time. Destroying your soft sh*tty body.
Which is why women aren't allowed in combat. Or atleast weren't anyway right before I left we were supposed to get a female corpsman at our unit. Course. They also changed from 3/24 India which was 0311 to 3/23 kilo a ground and logistics unit or something which may have been y
Royal Air Force - UK
Fitness test is pushups, situps, and a Multi - stage fitness test (MSFT) or bleep test
I'm an old man, so I only have to do 20 pushups, 35 situps and score 8.5 on the bleep test. In British Army terms, I think I have to do 40 pushups, 50 situps and run 1.5 miles in 12 minutes. I'm not sure if that's totally accurate tho.
Yes those are the “minimum” scores. However, in addition for the Air Force, one needs to score a composite score of 75 to pass. If one scores the minimum it is still possible to fail the test.
Lmao like it’s a competition on which one is the hardest😂
It’s obviously the marine corps
Nicholas Jordan all of the base standards for each branch are pretty much the same.
@@Dero_milsurp except for the marines, lmao, did you watch the video?

Nice tactical look
i maxed in the army pt test and it’s a lot easier to max than the new one coming out
Women got it made tho.lol
Marcus Freeman The thing about women being held to the same standard is like saying a 50 male has to score the same as an 18 yr old male. Reason being is biologically us men have 40 person more muscle mass in our upper body and 33% more in our lower body. So you yanked out dang near half our muscle mass, we would also have to be physically evaluated differently.
@@davidmarr1923 In combat that shit doesn't matter.
Holy shit the running tests are so much harder than I thought, that is literally sprinting speed
Nah
You can't keep a Sprint that long. Sprinting is faster than you realize compared to what it takes to run that
I don't know mate, I'm speaking for myself at least. I mean shit I'm young and in very decent shape but I'd have a shit ton of trouble running at 8mph for 2 miles straight
That shit is just straight up murder
@@craycho9899 what's your best 2 mile time?
I honestly don't know since I have to walk for a bit after 1.5 miles to catch my breath. So speed isn't really the problem stamina is - if I could not stop to rest at my usual speed I think I'd pass easily
THANK U FOR SEVERING
I hope I'm not being instusive here. If I am, forgive me; because it isn't my intention. I respect servicemen. I never served in the USM, so I don't want to cross any lines here. But I am 44 years old and I did 300 push ups a few days ago. After watching this video, I feel pretty good about myself. Thanks for the info.
Marines Lead the way!
kornel'sfish tank productions actually Rangers lead the way
windmillman Nah Marine Marsoc Lead the way🤣
kornel'sfish tank productions no dude, the Rangers motto is “rangers lead the way”, marines are the tip of the spear. Know your military before you insert your subjective garbage.
...stick to your fish, and fish tank accessories, Nemo.
windmillman lol i am well aware of the motto of the rangers i said marines lead the way because of the army and marine corps rivalry
Sooo, when it comes to my PFT I identify as a female🤷🏼♂️
I served in the 21st Artillery Division in the Taiwanese Army when I was 25 and I always passed all three events. I’m surprised that he US army’s standards are very similar to what I experienced in Taiwan.
Im 15 years old and in afjrotc and im for sure gona join the airforce always will be my dream job to protect and serve our country
strange that the marines do the 70 situps whereas the army do 53
remember the marines do crunches, not sit ups. In my opinion i feel its easier to do crunches than it is to do sit ups. so the marines are doing at least 70 crunches while army is doing at least 53 sit ups.
70 crunches vs 53 sit ups.
crunches are super easy to do lol.
Sorry slip of the tongue I am not from the US nor can I walk so I'm just on to see/hear what it's like but I had a cousin in the US Army in Vietnam but I don't know what rank he got to
Remember that you get your feet held down during crunches in PFT and PRT, so they are actually very easy to max out on. I think my max out for crunches was 88 and could do it in my sleep. Situps by nature take longer to compete a rep.
I always thought of the pushups and situps as my savior because i always was on the slow side on the run. (Liked the cigarettes too much)
Chair force training seems so difficult 😂😂 u just sit in a office
You can sit in an office in every branch. It depends on what job you want
If your not smart you only stay in a office
@@cameronsams9183 Air Force is the hardest branch to get into mentally. You have to be really smart to get in
Which branch were u goo goo bars?
They still have headquarters. Supply. FTS
In CAP (Civil Air Patrol) we have to run a mile in under 8 mins. Depends on what rank you are.
I have a PT test coming up in May. This will be the first time I’ll be doing the 2 1/2 walk.
The thing is, if you score only enough to pass in the Marines you will not get promoted. When I was in it was 6 pull ups atleast - 20 for highest score, 3 mile run as quick as you can - crunches in 2 minutes, 200 for max score. The running time and score changed depending on your age.
USMC has always had the hardest and always will. Toughest boot camp as well.
I don't know it seems like a very individual thing to me, as to what is tougher. I am surprised though at some of this. I expected the Air Force's PFT to be easier. I suppose group PT is geared towards these standards and getting your scores up. So I would think the Air Force focuses on more intense, bursts of performance vs the endurance focus of Army and Marines. Obviously the whole point is to be fit for the job you do. For ground soldiers humping gear and having to stay moving much of the time that marathon like focus is necessary for the Army and the Marines. The Navy, Coast Guard, and Air Force don't really have that kind of need for that. The Coasties approach makes sense. Make it fit what they do.
Of course, as you pointed out, there are other test standards besides the basic ones such as those in place by various commands calling for a higher standard to be in that unit or maintain a certain status like Flight Platoon in Army aviation. They used to require a min score of 280 (same as SF). If you don't make it, you don't fly. Many units just say the max is your minimum requirement. Rangers and other higher demanding MOS's (physically speaking) often set standards like that. To keep your scroll you might have to max your PFT and shoot expert every time.
1st of all, we did (I was 22-28 yrs old & no age adjusted anything, shld have had height/stride adjustment for the time on the run, that's all), 80 Sit-ups in 2 mins w/hands behind head, PLUS first (which sucked) you had to try for 20 prefect pull-ups, then 20 push-ups with a lot of Stress Added in! Then, the 3 mile in less than 24, I believe.
Also, the Coast Guard is pretty tough for most MOS's. And the Air Force PJ's (Search/Rescue) are pretty Amazing!
Also, Chris you forget to mention that IF you were a Marine, and transferred after enlistment to another branch, Marines Did Not need to go through any other Boot Camps.
Good morning sir, you completely forgot the fact us Marines have 2 different fitness test, we do yes have the pft but we also have the cft and that one is no joke either. We run the pft in summer and the cft in the fall.
So the Navy run time says 12:45 but it has since changed back in September of 2017, it was changed to 12:30 or 12:15 I can't remember ( Mens 17-19 ). I don't know if this has since changed once again, but in case it hasn't hopefully you now know.
Aaah now the ACFT, finally!
Can you do a video on the hardest fitness tests in the world?
Christopher Chaos, have you done or will you do one on BLC, formerly WLC?
The 1.5 mile run time for the Navy is 12:15 seconds for Men ages 17-19 not 12:45 (graduated last month)
Now when you're Army and have to trek a long ways with a pack on your back. Now when I was in the Air Force, I had to haul a tool bag (in a truck) out to a jet on the flight line. So a definitely a different mission.
All you considering joining, especially future Marines. If you want to get promoted and generally be treated with any kind of respect, learn to excel at your PFT/CFT. Don’t complain, don’t be apathetic, don’t be scared of it, don’t try to argue with the logic. Just learn to love it and I promise it will help your career tremendously.
As an airman our pt test is embarrassing. I'm so glad they're changing the pt test however it's only going to be for certain career fields which I fall under. I think it's going to be similar to the marine cft.
the new standards are a joke, I used to have to work for an excellent, but now its very attainable as long as you train two or three days a week
you should do one video for the coast guard like you did for this video
All I know is Ft Leonard Wood Missouri was hardcore training back when I was there in the summer of 1987...
What shoes do you wear for the runs?
When I was in the Army we had to wear our boots for the 1 mile run. Even morning PT runs were always in boots. It sucked.
They have to be running shoes now. Cant be basketball shoes or cross trainers or anything like that. Have to be actual running shoes.
Those push up requirements are pretty easy. My High Schools swimming fitness test for freshman advanced was 50.
I was thinking of joining the airforce.
Looks like I need to hit the gym 10x more than I already do..
In 95 i was n the Marines. The swim test is a must. We have a crazy confidence course that is hard for many.
Plus get tear gassed you have to box and joust others. We backpack with all our gear. So minimum dont matter if you cant do it all.
The age grouping for all branches seems fair with exception to one of them (30 and below)
