Skandotpatti is the birth of Lord Subramanya. It is considered very auspicious. The five elements, or pancha boothas, played a major role in his birth. These elements are: Earth, Water, Fire, Air, Sky. Lord Shiva granted Lord Subramanya the power to protect the world from the evil Tarakasura.
Skandotpatti is also part of the Ramayana Bala Kanda.
Pregnant mothers who read and listen will give birth to sons who are well-known and respected. The renown and name of their unborn kid will be a blessing for the expectant mothers who have heard and read this stratra. The progeny of those who read the skandōtpatti on Subrahmaṇya ṣaṣṭhi will be blessed and shielded from misfortune.
