Valeria swore that whatever the price for saving Conan’s life was, she would pay it. The price the demi-god’s demanded was her life. Her life for Conan’s. A warriors heart for a warrior’s soul.
Am I the only one who tears up at this scene even after 30 plus years of enjoyment of it???? I remember watching this with my dad and mom and crying my eyes out. I still do.
"No hand was at the sweep of the Tigress, no oars drove her through the green water. But a clean tanging wind bellied her silken sail, and as a wild swan cleaves the sky to her nest, she sped seaward, flames mounting higher and higher from her deck to lick at the mast and envelop the figure that lay lapped in scarlet on the shining pyre. So passed the Queen of the Black Coast, and leaning on his red-stained sword, Conan stood silently until the red glow had faded far out in the blue hazes and dawn splashed its rose and gold over the ocean."
I often wonder who was more lucky. Subotai for finding a friend as powerful and fearless as Conan, or Conan for finding a friend as loyal and useful as Subotai.
Basil Poledouris composed a brilliant score for this beautiful movie..Which had more soul than any remake.Perfect director for a perfect movie(for it's kind) and perfect actors..and you have amazing childhood memories..
@@vardellsfolly5200 Conan is one of my favourite movies , i love good writing and this has it, but the sound track is really out of this world musically and quite frankly one of not just the best scores, but pieces of music i have ever heard. Phenomenal from poledouris and his work in robocop was fucking genius also especially his track the betrayal.
I will never forget this scene. Conan is the most hardcore fictional character I have ever seen. Even harder than Batman. He can not cry. He has been through much too much. He has no tears left even for those who deserve them. I mean,...Damn! The fact that his friends have to cry on his behalf is one of the most tragic things I have ever seen anywhere.
The cinematography in this film is just mind blowing. Real 'old school' cinemascope style. That shot at the end of this scene where the camera tracks around Conan, from looking at the flickering remains of the pyre and reveals the princess tied to the rock on top of the hill is great film-making. I believe Duke Callaghan didnt shoot many movies, which is a shame. He did work on the original Miami Vice though, which was pretty ahead of its time with the way it was shot.
@@xHenry3110 Rian Johnson? The guy that worked with Kathleen Kennedy to intentionally destroy Star Wars? He'd turn Conan into a prissy homo just to hear the lamentation of every guy in this comment section.
The women portrayed in movies today are cold, mechanical and lifeless. Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow being just about the only exception, todays female roles are not women, not feminine, not attractive at all. Hollywood is trying so hard to show that “today’s woman” can do everything a man can do that they forgot a woman is supposed to do everything a man CANNOT do. I would pick Valeria over any one of today’s cold, emotionless, mechanical robots any day.
If looks could kill ... my lord that look he gives that foolish girl at the end (cut bit short in this clip). I was so disappointed that they never made the repeatedly promised third movie aka King Conan. But in a way as time went on, it became better in a way that they did not. Since I don't think its possible to re-create the same heart and soul this movie had. None of the aspects exist anymore. I think its a product of the time, combined with a host of aspects all coming together. A truly unique and timeless classic., which sadly I doubt we will ever see the likes of again.
This movie is a tribute to true masculinity, friendship, love, struggling and finally self knowledge. That's why it isn't mentioned today by the media and even rated as a b-movie. Crom laughs at your politically correct movies. Laughs from his mountain!
Love can make the impossible, possible! The remembrance of love causes the fire of love to always burn as it should-Bright, pure, and much stronger than death. Love made the fire burn, even when the Magician said that it was impossible! May the fire of love, purity, and strength, always burn it's brightest flame within our hearts...now, and Forevermore!!!
People who say that Arnold is a terrible actor need to watch this movie again. He may have a funny accent, but his facial expressions and body language are masterful in their subtlety.
This... scene alone hurts I feel he's pain losing he's true love hes queen mother to hes future children 😭😭 I cry to this more then when rose let jack go lol
Damn, Mako was good in this. When they did the Momoa version, I was skeptical. I hoped beyond hope they would use technology to recreate mako's voice for the opening scene. When I heard Morgan fucking I love to narrate shit Freeman's voice, I knew that they had ruined the movie. Fuck you hollywood.
"He will not cry, so I cry for him." There's more fellowship between Conan and Subotai in that one line than in the entire trilogy of Lord of the Rings.

I also write his thank you notes, send his Christmas cards and call his mom once a week

TheMightyNaryar Imagine me the day we go see the new Aladdin and I explain to my brother why I look so sad.
The hardest line in cinema history.

I am crying even right now.

Subotai; companion rather than sidekick. Friend rather than comic relief.
spot on.
Thief, archer, companion.
unlike the sidekick in the destroyer.

The film demonstrates the deep love and friendship that the characters had for each other formed by hardships and survival.

Subotai was the best bro.
They don't put things like this in movies anymore.

Now, all we seem to get is CGI. Back then, movies had true feelings, and true emotions. Bring us back to the true and pure, not the fake!!!
@ronaldshank7589 couldn't have said it better friend.
The very definitions of love and friendship.
I consider this scene one of the most romantics ever!! The way he caresses her face...the silent despair of facing the death of his beloved one.
Brings me to tears. He really loved her.
Marvelous scene!
This film beauty is criminally overlooked.

“I know now why you cry, but it’s something I can never do.”
This movie never got the respect it deserves. It's actually brilliantly written. And that music is incredible! 👍
Yes.
I Agree. And the music in this scene in particular... Powerful, they just don't make them like this anymore and probably never will again.
Still a CLASSIC SCENE TO A CLASSIC FLICK!
Valeria had the greatest, most beautiful, most respectful funeral pyre ever.

Akiro: "Fire won't burn up there; no fire at all."
The gods and kings of old: "We'll allow it."
"He is Conan...Cimmerian...he won't cry...so I cry for him."- The emotional impact on the viewer was as much from the delivery, as it was the words.
Remember: be a man and never cry
imo one of the best scenes put on film. Ever.
Even fire respects and bends to Conan's last will.
I've yet to ever watch this scene and not tear up....I'd have cried for him, too.
This is how I wanna go. Just lay my body on a big ass stack of logs and set it ablaze. Then everyone drink and share stories of the fun we all had.

The music!!! Glorious!!! Thank you Basil.
It's amazing he didn't cry not a single tear.
"Fire won't burn up there, no fire at all" As Subotai runs up the hill, the music..... the music! it's absolutely perfect.
"No fire will burn up there, no fire at all." He was wrong, because the fire of Conan's love was able to burn up there just fine.
