    Living in France now inspires me to want to paint again after 30 years. Your small explanations really make a lot of sense but no other art teacher ever explained this. So bravo for learning from masters and sharing with us.

    Hi David, the two minute watercolors as well as the 10 minute oil sketch master videos have inspired me to my most productive and creative year of painting, and I've been wrestling with painting on and off for about 8 years. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and keep up the great work.

    Hi, I am painting on L84C artfix linen, a quadruple handprimed Belgian linen ( hand primed in France) available through Jerry's Artarama . I buy it on rolls that are 85 "tall and 6 yards long. It's an extremely smooth ( the smoothest available on the planet) linen....reminds me of the polished panels of Dutch 17th Century Landscape painters. Best, David

    Complementary colors that are equal in value with soft and dissolved edges between them, equals luminosity. Thank you for that note, I think I will be remembering that one.

      Rob S.
      Well great Roberts think alike I guess, haha. But that is a really awesome fact he pointed out. I have been making color tests on microsoft paint where I make different color combinations with exactly the same tonal values, and it creates a really interesting shimmering visual effect. I always thought high tonal contrasts were the only way to really get visual interest, so this is an awesome visual fact that all picture makers should know.

    Do you paint on water color paper? And do you gesso before using oil? When you make it very fluid only using oil, does it not take forever to dry?

  • @eyedoc1956
    @eyedoc1956 11 лет назад

    I loved this demo! But...I am left with some questions: 1. Oil tube paint and linseed oil? Then what did you did the brush into to make things "drippy," as you stated? 2. I realize this is a sketch, but to many of us it would be a finished painting. But what was it painted on? Watercolor paper, which I think would eventually succumb to the oil, or linen? I don't think you said what you're painting on.
    Thank you, it's a terrific video!
