  • This is a video of showing how a stub switch works. The handle positions the moveable set of rails from one track to the other as wanted. The switch handle needs to be returned into the "keeper" bars in both cases to hold the moveable rails in the selected position. A derailment WILL occur when a train approaches the switch and the other rails are connected. The train will run off the end of the unconnected rails. Engineers must verify the switch is aligned with the track they are on.
