    I have really appreciated your review of the mics. One thing, though, is I wish there was no added music as I really just wanted to hear the mics on their own for their sound quality and the backgrounds sounds that might come through. But otherwise, thanks for being so thorough!

    What a great review, Hugh. Real world reviews, such as yours, are so incredibly useful. I also have the G2A2 and pretty much agree with everything you said especially considering the self noise. Not a deal breaker at all though and if you throw one of those $60 Rode lav mics on the Synco the audio quality is pretty damn impressive.

    • @HuFilms
      @HuFilms  3 года назад +4

      Thanks for the comment Gerald. My tests weren’t overly scientific for sure but I guess I used them like the average buyer would. To get the Rode go 2 with two lavs you’re looking at almost twice the price as the Synco so they’re definitely a bargain!

    Seriously great review, I honestly love the tone of the Synco G2 based off of this review alone. I've been looking at a few videos of different Lavs half of the day and I am looking to get started with my own RUclips Career and hopefully this will be a token of a tool in my arsenal. Thank you once again for making a great review video.

I'll be doing some more interview style videos on my Chanell and was looking for a mic system that won't break the bank. Also thank you for giving the tip for using the stereo setting for interviews, I would have not thought of that myself.

    Brilliant review, thank you. I'm only starting out as content creator and already had one complaint that I couldn't be heard on one of my videos. For what is essentially a hobby I can't justify the cost of the Rode mikes but have recently found some 2nd hand Synco's on ebay for £40 so giving them a go.

    Tremendous review, been looking for a review where someone turns their back to the mic, to me that mimics real world conditions to an extent with people walking in front of the mic although that's the one thing i'd like to see tested, a crowded situation with lots of people, but understand you'd need another camera person to do it, thanks for the review though, very helpful

    • @HuFilms
      @HuFilms  2 года назад +2

      Yeah, good point. I may revert back to the old Sennheirer radio mic in that instance. The line of sight thing is fine in most scenarios but it could catch you out.

  • @LearnThaiRapidMethod
    @LearnThaiRapidMethod 2 года назад +2

    Thank you. I originally bought the G1 - (A1 refers to 1 transmitting mic, A2 refers to 2 transmitting mics) but I couldn't get two separate stereo channels; and it was impossible to tell whether you had selected mono or stereo mode (there's no indicator of any kind: an LED or even just a slide switch would have been useful). That made it useless in a live interview because there's no way to know if you're in the right mode or not. (Who carries around a stereo wave display, after all.)
    I replaced it with the G2, which at least has an LED display as a visual check that there's a signal and whether it's in stereo or mono mode.
    I don't know about the Rode, but my previous wireless set was the much more expensive Sennheiser (at $600). I inadvertently left the batteries in and hadn't used it for about a year. When I took it out of its case a couple of weeks ago, the battery acid had destroyed all the units! :(
    There's no way I can justify forking out another $600 for something I use only occasionally, but I do need good quality audio for my interviews.
    What I like about the Synco is that you can plug in your own lavalier for superior quality audio. It turns out that (except for the signal strength) all the units are identical when it comes to transmitting whatever input signal it gets.
    It may be that the Synco has a higher noise floor - I will update this comment later if it's the transmitter creating the noise or the mic itself. I suspect that the supplied mics are poorer quality (and the mic you used for your Rode happened to have a better SNR anyway).
    Distance isn't an issue for my application, as I'm interviewing in a room or other small space. But if you're filming action scenes where the talent may be quite far away (e.g. on a motorbike or in a large hall) then this will definitely be a consideration, and the Sennheiser might be a better buy.
    One thing I did find fiddly and rather disturbing with the (old) Sennheiser is that I couldn't always get a signal or there was whistling or other noises. Maybe it was just me not knowing how to configure the units properly, or maybe the channels got switched inadvertently, Or maybe the impedance on the (Sony) lavalier mic was too high. i don't know. I found the Synco so intuitive to use, just plug it in and go!
    (Update: I used the set some time ago to record a performance. Inadvertently, while plugging the receiver unit to the camcorder, I must have pressed the mono/stereo toggle switch simply by handling it. The entire performance was recorded in mono, which may not have been such a big deal, except that it was a series of solo performances. While one mic was recording the talent, the other mic was backstage being attached to the next performer - which meant the entire recording consisted of the talent PLUS the backstage noise all mixed onto a single track; and hence totally useless! Luckily I had other backup mics recording. Pay particular attention to this easy-to-toggle button and the mono/stereo status of the receiver!!!)

    Check the DJI Mics. I've had mine for a year now and they go as far as 400 ft. Facing away, I got as far as a little over 300 ft (90 meters). Not sure why and what people would would be doing at that distance (LOL), but the DJI Mic system seriously hits the sweet spot. Good video Hugh!

    Great review! I saw another review that got great results for the distance test, and they also turned away from the camera. I noticed that your test had the Synco located against hedges on the right vs. the Rode with a cleaner line of sight. I think that may be part of the variance you experienced. I just bought the system, and will test it as well, even though distance is not an issue for me. Most all of my work will be relatively close to the camera/receiver.

    I just purchased this and was considering sending it back. However I spent some time playing around with all the settings. +3, +6, +12 etc. Tried it with the lav mic with the wind screen on and off and with the low freq. cut off. I did this test because some of my videos sounded "muffled" and the volume was low in Premier Pro where I really had to boost it.

    Brill review Hugh, I'm reviewing a lot of these lavs at the moment. Too much choice!! I make short films and documentary so the lavs would be great for Interview and outdoor commentary to camera. I am not a pro just a hobby. My gear is the Sony PXW-X70 4K, Zoom H8, Sennheiser Mke 600 in Rode blimp etc. Plus a few condenser mics for indoor dialogue. Behringer B-5 Great results indoor and good self noise.

    Why not use the lav mic, and attach the transmitter to your backside belt under your jacket, then walk away? The transmitter would always point towards the receiver when walking away and be within range when you are normally talking to the camera.

      Then you’re testing it in a way that it isn’t designed. With these systems it’s all about the onboard mic for speed and convenience. But yeah, you have a point. Most people using these won’t be facing away from the camera I think .

One pleasant surprise I've found on testing is I don't get the cut out's you get with distance but there are 2 problems you don't mention. One is minor, I find the wind muffs don't attach to the mic properly and a gust might blow them off. The other is more worrying; I continuously hit the mute button in tests. Honestly, I never checked. I know I should. But I tend to only review stuff as I use them and I never even tried that on the Rose GO 2. I don’t think so!

      That’s not true really. There’s countless reviews of these, have a look at some others.

    Thanks, very useful. Do you know how long the built-in batteries last on a full charge? Thanks

    Great video! Just have a few questions: does this connect to a Macbook? And can you use the second transmitter to stream music? I need this for streaming fitness videos. Any advice is welcome!

    Thanks Hugh!! Huge help. Do you think it'd be possible to remove the hissing noise of the Synco in post-prod?

    Thanks for the review. I got it today but where can I find my recordings? Or with which app do I use it. I want to use it for a interview and dont know yet if I only use the audio or want to make video. I tried it just a minute ago but dont know were I can find the recording and can not find it online. Hopefully you can help me out?

    Is there any latency while reviewing audio through headphones? I would be using this with a Canon C100 Mark II.

    Good review! Thanks Hugh, the Rode wireless 2 has the built in memory as a back up if you lose signal. Does the Synco do that too? Thanks

    Do the built-in levels impede the benefit of recording to a float 32 recorder? Or would you just set them super low and make it up in post?

    Thanks for the awesome review! Can these be charged while recording (specifically the receiver)? I have my fishing kayak fully powering two GoPro 10 Blacks, but need the mic a little closer to me in my new, larger yak where the hardware is a full two feet further away from me and a bit tinny in the new rig. I keep the cams in Hindsight, so the wireless system would be active at all times. It seems I can get away with things with keeping the two TX units onboard, but it sounds as though the RX would need a charge during a long day. Do I need to shut the RX down to charge, or can it take power on the fly? Thanks again!

    • @HuFilms
      @HuFilms  2 года назад

      Honestly, I don't know but it uses such little power that I'd imagine it'll charge whilst being used.

    Great review. For some reason I always pickup noise right around me. When I touch a table or move a piece of paper on my desk or touch a box, etc. it always comes through on the mic. I’m a newbie and have no idea what I’m doing…anybody have advice. I have the Fulaim x5 but am considering this mic set
