    BAMBOO FOR BUSHCRAFT: TINDER
    Among the many uses that bamboo has for bushcraft, one of them is to make first class tinder. Bamboo has multiple applications where it comes to making fire. This would also be very valuable knowledge to have in a survival or emergency situation where making fire is needed quickly and bamboo is an available resource. Let's take a look at a quick demonstration of how this works.

    Nice, brother! I haven't seen that many bamboo vids, so this was fun to watch. I'm surprised it took the spark so well with the bamboo being so green. Definitely a great resource on a train forest. Thanks for sharing, Matt!

    We got plenty of bamboo in the Philippines, we learned at an early age as Scouts and as survival/bushcraft the many uses of bamboo in fire making and bamboo crafts for survival. The US Navy, Marines and Air Force used to train in jungle survival in the Philippines.

      It is an amazing resource and I can imagine you guys did some great things with it as far as crafts and just making use of it in that environment. I only wish we have more of it to work with. Thank you for tuning in and sharing your experience. Take care.

    Interesting! A thought. Be sure that you don’t burn a closed chamber of bamboo. I’ve heard that it will build pressure and blow up. Kind of like heating wet stones. Can’t guarantee that, but will leave the research up to you.

      I definitely agree. I would make sure it was open on at least one end to prevent pressure build up from expansion. Good tip. Thank you for tuning in and commenting!

      Had that happen to me. Threw a piece in the fire, and it sounded like a shotgun went off. It is excellent for kindling, as long as you break up the chamber cells.

    I believe (not 100% sure) that bamboo ’bark’ contains oils. That’d explain it working so well as tinder.

    Interesting, what are the flammable properties?

    • @blackhatbushcraft
      @blackhatbushcraft  2 месяца назад +1

      To the best of my knowledge, it is just such a fine material once processed, that it is easy to bring it to combust due to the surface area. I also notice that the outer layers are met as they are green but the inner layers get more dry.
