  • After 18 seasons on the premier NASCAR Cup level and 20 years of full-time stock-car racing, fan-favorite Dale Earnhardt Jr. announced on April 25, 2017, that the ’17 season would be his last. The 15-time Most Popular Driver and winner of 26 NASCAR Cup races, including two Daytona 500s, was trading in his driver’s suit for a broadcaster’s necktie. Concussions had taken their toll. He was done with racing.
Except for one night - Sept. 21, 2018.
This Dirty Mo Media exclusive short film documents the days leading up to Earnhardt Jr.’s one-race return to the driver’s seat for a NASCAR Xfinity Series event at Richmond Raceway. It is a raw, behind-the-scenes look into Earnhardt Jr.’s life. It captures the nerves, emotions and anticipation that accompanied Earnhardt Jr. in his return. Would he be rusty? Would he still possess the racing instincts and competitive prowess that Earnhardts are known for? And could he actually win this race?
“The Return” answers those questions and provides unmatched, unprecedented access into the fast-paced, high-octane, super-frenzied world of Dale Earnhardt Jr., the beloved racer who gave his fans another night to remember.

I agree with you 100% I always always look for Kelley during one of Dale Junior‘s events a race or a public appearance but she’s always there and she is always taking care of business seriously though the bond between Kelley and Dale is very rare and very special hey I’ve been thinking this for a while but after Dale Senior passed I think Kelley was a big part of Dale‘s life and helping him get through this and some of NASCAR veteran drivers stepped in and gave Dale Junior advice almost like fatherly advice for a few years and dale Junior has talked about this.

Like millions of other Dale Jr fans (forever a Dale Jr fan ! ), I fully understand why he has decided to hang it up (driving). His health and the time he spends with family (husband and new father) at this stage of his life is a hell of a lot more important ! But it sure was great seeing him in the car again just the same ! Thank you Dale Jr for a super evening at Richmond ! 4th ain’t bad considering the time you have been out of a race car ! Good luck in all your future endeavors !

I was so sad when he retired because along with many others, I really liked how he tried so hard to carry on his Dad's legacy and at the time, he was also my favorite driver. Every time I went to Texas I only wore Dale Jr. clothing. But at least he is starting to do iRacing for fox sports 1 on TV so we still occasionally get to see his amazing skills. I have nothing but respect for you and sad you no longer race, but I've almost gotten over it. Hopefully I will See you soon on TV..

It just can't get any better than this... well, I guess it could, but I'm sure Mrs. Amy may have something to say about it! Thanks, Dale Jr., for all the GREAT memories, what a joy to see you in the drivers seat just one more time!

Man if he’d just run 3-5 Races a year, No Superspeedways, lessen the chance of one of those hard hits. A year or two with a schedule of Bristol, Martinsville, Richmond, maybe once on the Roval. The souvenir money would benefit and there’s a chance little Isla will have some memories of it if Jr Does it for a few years. It was awesome to see him on the track & this was awesome to watch and have to remind us of days gone by.
Thanks Jr and Dirty Mo Media

It would be so cool to have Dale Jr. as a friend. He is one grounded young man. Nascar would get such a lift in views if Jr. would come back. I think he is doing it right put family first. Great run.

Without the caution he wins race. Had a the best car by far on long run. It was sluggish on short runs, and getting hung on outside last two restarts
