To make it simple Hemophilus doesn't cause exact manifestation of typical pneumonia, like high fever, severe cough,breathlessness .... as we see with streptococci pneumonia ( other bacteria) within short period of illness. That's why...

atypical pneumonia means atypical organisms causing it,we donot depend on presentation to classify pneumonia as atpical and typical it is caused by mycoplasma,chlamydia,legionella,also Q fever tularemia or psittacosis.......we all know that Hib pneumonia is insidious in onset and indistinguishable from other bacteria causing pneumonia.nowadays we classify pneumonia as congenital versus aquired,aquired divided into community versus nosocomial ،community aquired is further classified by etiologic agent grouped by the age of the patient starting from neonates to above 15 year old,beside the immune status of the patient immunocompetent versus immunocompromised😉😉
