  • Restaurant Meliefste is a cosy gastronomical restaurant in the picturesque town of Wolphaartsdijk in The Netherlands. Wolphaartsdijk is located in the province Zeeland and known as a popular holiday destination. Many tourists and locals enjoy walking, sports and water sport possibilities at the famous lake “Veerse Meer”. The sea is just a few kilometres away. The views on the lake are hard to beat and the chef’s local inspired dishes are a true experience. Lake mackerel lightly smoked and combined with algae, botarga and caviar!

    Now THIS here is innovative; a caramel made from head shrimps, emulsified with mustard. That is damn impressive lads, well done! Elegant dish!

    The Veerse Meer or Lake s connected to the adjacent North Sea (locks) and i have caught seabass, small mackerel, trout, eel, flounder, … there throuhout the years. I would say the water is very brakkish,…. The huge mackerel he is holding … must have some good fishermen friends 😂

    Stupid question, but isnt mackarel a salt water fish? How can it be from a lake?

    Nice dish. However, Mackerel and seabass are both species not being fished in the ‘lake’ the chef is talking about, let alone the time of the year. Either the chef is not aware of what swims around in his own backyard, or he is not speaking the truth which are both options not really reasonable for a restaurant this quality.

      Maybe ask WBP when this was recorded. Could be in the mackerel season (may-september)
      I had an incredible dinner at Meliefste. In the sun on the terrace overlooking the lake. Really magical.

      Could be, but then again there is no mackerel in the Veerse meer. They wont come further inshore then the Oosterschelde

    I feel lazy when I watch these videos where everyone is bustling around doing great things, and then telling me about them in maybe a different language than their own, and all I'm doing is watching in the only language I understand. Pathetic huh?
