love the humble attitude Mr. Canterbury! God bless to you and yours and know that I've learned many things from your channel and have practiced them and in turn taught my four kids and wife what I've learned and now we can't get enough of being out in nature with each other.

Growing up in rural MN, I thought I knew everything I needed about trekking/ living in the woods. But, I learned a lot from your vids and they helped me form a new appreciation of these life skills. Knowing these makes a person more confident, even if they live in town. Thank you, sir.

Lol! I just got a Mora #220, and I was just discussing today with one of my family members about what to use to seal the pine handles with. I was using vegetable oil. She thinks that was a bad idea. Anyhow, I like how you value your students Dave. And I agree completely with you on people who make mean comments all the time. Not every one does things exactly the same, nor is at the same level of learning. But it is how we encourage, listen as well share in a respectful way that is important.
Dave as always appreciate the video and knowledge you pass on and your thoughts even more. In a world filled with more and more disrespect, it is refreshing to hear those same words my father and grandfather use to say to all of us growing up. Thank you for all the great products your school makes available as well. Great idea Dave i has always wondered how a person sealed his eating utensils without using chemicals. Thank you so much for showing & teaching what you know.Has opened my mind up to many things.I also agree whole heartily with the leave the crap at your own door instead of stinking everyone's space up,that is only respectable to everyone,God bless you & yours
One of the things that's great about the bushcraft community is that people are very respectful and helpful. I actually don't see any mean comments like I do on other channels
fixin wax = crisco or other animal fat rendering + beeswax + heated pot + stirring stick or spoon, after thorough mixing, pour into whatever shape mold you want. let cool and pop out your stuff.

There is no harm in being nice that's for sure. I've made negative comments on channels at times but always in a positive manner. (if that makes sense). And it's always in a PM. That way the person is not embarrassed. Love hanging around here Dave, always learning.

"the world is full enough with mean people" True words brother! Totally agree with the tribal knowledge. If everyone passed down the knowledge they have learned from elders and parents, there would really be much need for elementary school. Not sure if you feel the same way, but that's how I feel. Keep on keeping on brother! Videos as always, are high quality goodness!

Very good wisdom to many people looking for a way to bring people down. As always great video and enjoyed it. Would love to come to your classes one day before i get to old.
Tip of the hat to Jeremy and yourself for bringing this product to our attention, I've been buying it for well over a year for myself and friends. Way more uses than I can list here, it's great for the skin, I've have used it for patch lube and it's excellent for leather or wood knife handles.

Great vid. always enjoy. everytime I watch your vids, it brings back many memories of camping in the rough, as a child. very primitive, but very fun. I was practicing bushcraft skills then, but all I knew was , I was having fun.

I went out today and got a pork loin after seeing the camp kitchen rotisserie video. got the rotisserie made today, but didn't have time to cook it. (sad face) have that to look forward to tomorrow. Your video's do have a positive impact, and thanks for giving this o'lman ideas. I'll get me some fixing wax, I'll try it out on my homemade cane pole.

Dear, Dave I simply adore the information that you are putting out for free! It has helped to understand a lot of things that I hope to practice when I get the time. I was wondering though, what woods are appropriate for making items such as spoons,bowls, plates, etc... I am aware there are woods that produce harmful oils etc, but I am not 100% sure what woods I should use. Thank you for you time and responding to this as well for posting these videos!

Just a week or two ago I finished my Council Boy's Ax Forest Service Edition and my Wetterlings Fine Forest Ax with Danish Oil. I just stripped my vintage Council Tool 3 1/2 lb. Ax and polished the head. I'll stain that one next. AND I just scraped my leg too while I was out harvesting Fatwood and while I was working on my tracking skills (+ I finally located some Tulip Poplar). I used some Pine residue to cover the scrape until I got home. Sucks sweating on a cut in 90 degree weather.
Lessons inside of lessons....add in a little philosophy, that's why you lead the way brother. Excellent video!

Fixin wax is great stuff indeed. There are several versions, depends on who is making it. One part each beeswax, tallow, sheabutter and a few drops essential oils all melted together.

Your so right about the nice thing. Not everyone grows up or gets taught that being nice will get you further in this life, but I believe it. I've quit really good paying jobs because the boss I had was a mastermind at being mean. Never looked back.
Dirt time is a cool catchphrase. I look at your and other channels and have learned quite a bit. Afterward, I get in my dirt time to try it out, and then I pass on the tribal knowledge to my son shortly after. Thank you.
Back in the 1970's there was several books called Fox Fire. These had all kinds of Old folk tells of how to do about everthing. I believe you still can order these.
I personally find your videos to be great and i always learn somethingfrom you.

The other major ingredient to mention in that cake of beeswax would be some type of food safe oil. A good source of vitamin E could be added such as walnut oil. Soybean or corn oil spoils over time and would be bad to use on a wooden food implements but I'm sure he knows that if he's researched it.
Anyways, most people can't be troubled to make it so its great that you sell it online. I really enjoy watching your videos.
Fix n Wax is good stuff. I put it on the handle of a KaBar my dad gave me 20ish years ago. Made the handle feel like new. Also left my hands soft afterword. I keep two cakes of it in my Jeep for random uses now.
I love your videos man! Ever since i discovered your channel, ive spent hours watching your them. Im stationed out here in Germany at the moment. German laws are very strict and i cant practice most of the things you show tutorials for. I wish i was back in the states so i could learn more from you.

Dave I was developing a rash on my face as winter is coming on I use some of your fixing wax on it immediately started seeing results by day 3 I hardly see it at all it actually works better than stuff you buy in the stores.
While a good buffing and heating in the sun afterwards, does work, I tend to preheat my wood and boots before applying wax or any finishes, You can see it suck right in. Then buff it. Boots, I put right in the oven or heat over an open fire to a temp of good and warm to the touch, yet not so warm you can't handle in your hands.

As always, I really enjoy your videos. I was wondering if I could make a request. How about doing a short video series on how to deal with insects and little critters that cause bushcrafters a lot of grief? For example, right now the mosquitoes are awful, due to the heavy rains in the Midwest a month or so ago. So, any insect prevention tips would be great. Love the vids! Please keep 'em coming. Thanks!

I'm particularly fond of food grade mineral oil or olive oil and a beeswax coating over that. Regardless I want to try this "Fixing Wax" one of these days. Thanks for another great video, Dave!
i try and buy a cake of that wax every chance i get. i use it on everything. from my boots, to my guns, knives, leather, and even in my canvas packs. what doesn't get said enough about it is that it really has no odor unlike other treatments, which is a plus in my book.

Awesome video! I have a question when it comes to treating your wooden bush objects. I have recently started a burning a bowl, how do i properly treat it so that it doesn't leak and to keep liquids from soaking in?

Nice wax-stuff !!! Could be something made of bee-wax and pine-sap or -resin.
I sealed a nice carved wooden box just with bee-wax. That did it too.
A good idea could be to soak the object in liquid (bee-)wax.
I tried this with matches and it made them waterproof.
I actually have a funny story about sealing wooden tools. I bought the large fleshing from the pathfinder store and ended up using a couple days after it got here to flesh my first coyote. The fat from the coyote sealed the handles of the fleshing knife....accidentally!

Being a hunter, have you noticed using tallow to waterproof your various items, does it give off a strong enough scent to scare off game? I've always shyed away from using it for fear of scaring off deer, or other animals I'm trying to hunt or trap. It can be tough enough to get within arrow shot distance sometimes as it is haha! I'm always looking for a better way though, and I hate to waste anything from the animals I take.
Fixin' wax..I like it. I haven't purchased any yet..but I like it. I appreciate your videos and your knowledge. Seems like that wax could be used to wax just about anything..and it's edible as well?? Hmm..interesting. Thanks for the 'rant', I see where you are coming from. Respect and cordiality are important and it's true we attract more flies with honey than with vinegar. Am I perfect at it?? Oh by no means, but I will call someone out on their shenanigans. Meanness is for the weak.
