An exciting takeoff on a Delta Air Lines Boeing 757 from SNA Orange County, CA runway 19R on December 11, 2006. N609DL in Song Colors operating as Delta flight 1778 from SNA-ATL.
There is nothing quite like the feeling of the surge of power you get during take-off, and then watching the ground get smaller and smaller beneath you as you start your climb.
I love the 757. I've been flying for 20 years as sales, aside from the queen(747) there's nothing like a 757. Those engines are so powerful, especially the older version. When it rotated, it would do so at a such a step angle and reach several k feet in no time.
I am local to that airport; it's the closest one to me. I love that airport because planes really tend to climb sharply to avoid pissing off neighbors on the 1L end of 19R.
The shortest takeoff run on 757 that I was on was 17 seconds. It was a mostly empty flight of just under 2 hr duration.. and boy could she climb ! My understanding is 757s of all commercial jetliners have the highest thrust to weight ratio
@Anonomys2012 When I flew it, it had Delta blue leather seats and TV's in every seat however at the time the outside of the aircraft was still on Song colors.
Yeah its the 757 they are overpowered for sure. There is actually a video somewhere on youtube I seen before with a 757 doing a near vertical climb. Only passenger plane that can get that close to a vertical climb.
They lower the flaps more to get more lift on the initial climb out due to the need to get a higher angle of attack out of there. They climb out reduce power and lower the nose.
i work at john wayne airport. technically houses were there first but the airport has been around for a long time too. enough time has passed for people to realize theyre living close to an airport, and no matter how much noise abatement policies they have, the value of their homes still go down solely for the fact that they live in close proximity to the airport.
@UtahImplosion yes they r but the FAA is more worried about i pods. If something happened they could still see and hear. With i pods u cant hear if there is an emergency
No, 757 coach config. is 3-3 seats. 767 coach is 2-3-2. 777 coach is usually 3-3-3 or sometimes 3-4-3 like the 747. 2-4-2 is a Airbus config. for A300, A330 and A340. Its was the same for TriStar, DC-10/MD-11
@TheGeorgecostanza Yes indeed, this is one of the best inventions man could have ever accomplished! What a feeling and experience that I will always enjoy unless there is extreme turbulence! LOL!
@TeamLeftmatch777 They're not retired man, you can fly on them all you want. Plenty still in service today. It's the 727's that are retired. I really liked those planes too, but yes, the 757's takeoff is something. It climbs very steeply to begin with, but from this airport even more so because of the noise regulations in the area, so pilots flying out it Orange County are required to climb as quickly as their plane possibly can so they can turn the engines down as soon as possible.
nice vid love the 757:) gassing the engines and holding brakes then release for a fast acceleration i also had that on a atr 72-201 i have a video of it on my channel
@777BACAPTAIN Hey man there's a military video of a 757 vertical climb to back you up your words. No body can argue with you and you're a pilot. to top it off. :-D Nice to see a pilots comments on an aviation video.
Wow, he prob only had about 500' left when the mains came off the ground. Never been through SNA on a 757, prob be too nervous knowing how short that field is
@UTubeLightBulb These engines also buzz, but you will never here the shock waves from the blades from behind the wing. It's a just an odd scientific thing. You can probably give a better explanation than I can. You gotta be right in front of the engines or over them.
If were to try and lean to look out the window on take off, you would have a difficult time due to the immense force those engines generated at the steep angle.
NWA's 757's in the new eurowhite color is sexy hot not a fan of the PW's though. I think winglets look good on any plane! except for russian planes they don't look good in the first place! ;) I wish i was on that flight thanks for sharing!
These take-off videos really helped me build up the courage to finally get on an airplane for the first time. Thanks!
what beautiful footage! position of the window is perfect and so is the lighting! bravo!
This is a great takeoff video! This is the best part of flight to me!
I love the sound of the mighty engines and getting pushed back into the seat during
these takeoffs.
There is nothing quite like the feeling of the surge of power you get during take-off, and then watching the ground get smaller and smaller beneath you as you start your climb.
Awesome video. The 757 is quite possibly the sexiest of all passenger aircraft.
Awesome, a 757 has a pheonomenal amount of thrust. Cool video.
Great view of the 55, Eastbluff, Back Bay and so many more.
Beautiful!!
You only see a 757 take off like that! I love this airplane. It looked sooo good in the Song livery too.
I love the wing tip vortex and the flap vortex on takeoff. Nice shot!
thrilling take off
exhilarating video! what a takeoff!
That was a great takeoff, I love how at SNA the brakes are held and thrust is increased to near takeoff level before the brakes are released!
Superb vid friend, the pilot launched this 757 off of the runway, brilliant :)
Man I love takeoffs! I can't wait to start my flight career, to do just that!
great vid
Wicked initial climbout!
wow, that take offf seemed fun
I love the 757. I've been flying for 20 years as sales, aside from the queen(747) there's nothing like a 757. Those engines are so powerful, especially the older version. When it rotated, it would do so at a such a step angle and reach several k feet in no time.
awesome video!
On October, 30th 2009 I fly with a Balair/Air Berlin B-757-200 from Düsseldorf to Zürich. It,s my very first B-757 ride.
Sounds so peaceful. :) Great video :)
dam i've never been on one of this, but i hope i do soon, dat just looked so freaken smooth, usually i always go on boeing 737's
@777BACAPTAIN i love it.
I'm watching this after taking off(via RUclips!) in several IL-62s. That 757 just about jumped off the ground compared to the old Ilyushins.
That 757 shot off the runway like a rocket.
its a standard proceedure.. short field takeoffs are always fun
Gotta love the steep climbout from SNA!
yay song colours
I am local to that airport; it's the closest one to me. I love that airport because planes really tend to climb sharply to avoid pissing off neighbors on the 1L end of 19R.
Very nice vid !
That's cool to see the flaps fully extracting at 2:27
I want to takeoff from SNA one of these days. I hear those takeoffs are almost always full flaps, full power.
delta always has good service:)
The shortest takeoff run on 757 that I was on was 17 seconds. It was a mostly empty flight of just under 2 hr duration.. and boy could she climb ! My understanding is 757s of all commercial jetliners have the highest thrust to weight ratio
Boy, he got up there in a hot hurry! Must be a fun takeoff when you have a 5k foot runway and strict noise-abatement procedures.
@Anonomys2012 When I flew it, it had Delta blue leather seats and TV's in every seat however at the time the outside of the aircraft was still on Song colors.
My guess is that Santa Ana has a short-ish runway and they needed more flap angle to shorten the take-off run a bit.
man i miss song soooo much
Yeah its the 757 they are overpowered for sure. There is actually a video somewhere on youtube I seen before with a 757 doing a near vertical climb. Only passenger plane that can get that close to a vertical climb.
my brother lives right down the road from SNA. To bad you weren't on the right side of the plane. You might have been able to see his house!!!
They lower the flaps more to get more lift on the initial climb out due to the need to get a higher angle of attack out of there. They climb out reduce power and lower the nose.
Narrow body plane + Wide body engines = amazing:D
ok then i was just seeing becuase im flying to new york and my family wanted to know i felt a bit silly asking if they did :D thannks as well..x

wow!
that was A Steep TAKE OFF!
ASWOME I DINT KNOW WHAT ABOUT YOU GUYS BUT i RATE 5!
OMG short runways always scare my parents but I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I already have a 15 year plan to become a pilot....weird.......
DL is awsome.
@TheGeorgecostanza Yes indeed, this is one of the best inventions man could have ever accomplished! What a feeling and experience that I will always enjoy unless there is extreme turbulence! LOL!

Nice to see a pilots comments on an aviation video.
@TeamLeftmatch777 They may not make them any more, but there are plenty still flying for multiple airlines
look at that flap extension
@br76892 cause the runway at SNA is really short. i've flown in there several times, as soon as you touch down, full reversers and heavy braking.
@777BACAPTAIN Yeah, I think 4 engines is a good thing for this 747
Looks like he put the brake on it and then full gas...is it?
How long took this flight?
Nice vid! 5/5
Yeah you'll be fine. I'm 6'4 250 and never had any problem
it looks like Delta wanted to bring you to the moon in the beginning.
I think its a 757-200 and it can fit anywhere from 200-234 people depending on the configuration.
@Anonomys2012 hey me too awesome
boy...that big bird can climb but she needs a LONG ASS runway, too...
When I'm on a plane, as soon as we're airborne, I say to myself "Houston, we have lift-off".
This was a Song aircraft after the demise of Song. They all have PTV's in the seats.
You Know Its Gonna Be Steep When The Flaps Are All The Way Down On Takeoff
I heard that either the 757 or 767 is one of the most overpowered aircraft(s). They can climb quickly.
2020?
I fly this exact plane but never this route
That pilot blasted off from that runway judging by the speed. It looked really fun. hahahaa. comment my 2 videos please.
Electronic devices are supposed to be turned off during take off.
LOL - pretty cool take off though!
those flaps a re extremely deep
Wow, he prob only had about 500' left when the mains came off the ground. Never been through SNA on a 757, prob be too nervous knowing how short that field is
Small conversations here..........
I miss the Concorde
@leo967846 I meant 757, my bad. And Im not entirely sure if the 757 has 4 engines, but the 747 does.
@777BACAPTAIN *No other civil aircraft can climb this high*
im flying delta on 30th July edinburgh-JFK JKF-denver
@UTubeLightBulb These engines also buzz, but you will never here the shock waves from the blades from behind the wing. It's a just an odd scientific thing. You can probably give a better explanation than I can. You gotta be right in front of the engines or over them.
Yep they sure did....it was really nice! If I'm not mistaken, Delta is supposed to be installing that on all of their 757's...not positive though
@airplanecrazy1989 Usually something around 20.
If were to try and lean to look out the window on take off, you would have a difficult time due to the immense force those engines generated at the steep angle.
It will definitely be 3-3 seating. 2-4-2 would be a widbody Airbus configuration.
@REDCLOUDX Honestly I dont remember but I would have to guess 31, 32 or 33A
Yep that's a short field takeoff. That's the way all takeoffs from John Wayne Airport are done.
@mike40842 Pratt and Whitney, RR's sound more like a friggin' wood chipper or something.
dec 11th is my birthday! :D Read discription~
767-200 equally impressive
@moronboy86 It was heading to North Korea. I'm a travel agent, I was on board!
767-200 eqaully impressive
I am a big person (255 lbs.) and am wanting to know would I fit into one seat? Were there any over weight people on this flight?
idk but i know southwest makes slightly larger ppl buy two tickets
bring those flaps up!
NWA's 757's in the new eurowhite color is sexy hot not a fan of the PW's though. I think winglets look good on any plane! except for russian planes they don't look good in the first place! ;) I wish i was on that flight thanks for sharing!
Why are the flaps nearly full for this takeoff?
They can't until they are allowed to power back up all the way.
Delta doesn't operate 757's with RR engines, they are Pratt & Whitney PW2040.
How far down are those flaps set?
Wut was his altitude at 1:25 damm can somebody tell me.
did delta airline changed there coach seats to leather with personal tvs
