They aren't slaves anymore and we are no longer slave owners." Why do you think a lot of white people accept that you're a product of your environment in something pertaining to this guy on this video, but dismiss this notion when it applies to the mistakes black people make? Pretty naive for some to accept that a person is a product of the environment they grew up in only when it suits them. It's going to take several more generations to weed out all the damage done to the black people that were prisoners of war in their country back in Africa, that were then sold to wealthy people in Europe and America....and specifically the ones that were brought to America who were holistically treated like animals - and that took a blood bath earthquake of a civil war to liberate, all of which we still feel tremors and aftershock from even today.

"grasping at straws" - The idiom is used to mean an attempt to succeed-such as in an argument, debate or attempt at a solution-when nothing you choose is likely to work. Also: A 1534 reference "clutch at straws" is referring to grabbing at grass growing by the river bank when you're in the river being swept away. A drowning man will clutch at straws. "Clutching their pearls" is an idiom meaning to behave as if you are very shocked, especially when you show more shock than you ACTUALLY feel in order to show that you think something is morally bad. And when they start to over react, they reach for those pearls around their neck and grab aholt (a hold) of 'em (them). You see the same spirit in the LGBTQIA community where they may call each other certain things in the context of their in-group as a way of taking some of the pain out of words that have historically been used to bully or humiliate them. How those groups decide to deal with language that has been used towards them in a hateful manner is their business...but when an outsider uses those terms they are still a slur. 3:19 When discussing the history of the word and the transatlantic slave trade, it is important to note that West African slavers played a role in the capture and sale of enslaved individuals, primarily within the context of intra-African slavery. However, it is crucial to distinguish between the African slave trade that existed prior to European involvement and the transatlantic slave trade facilitated by European colonial powers. Prior to European arrival, various forms of slavery existed in different regions of Africa. Slavery in Africa was a complex institution with different practices, such as debt bondage, servitude, and prisoner-of-war enslavement. It is important to acknowledge that these pre-existing African slavery practices were distinct from the large-scale, racially-based chattel slavery that developed during the transatlantic slave trade. The transatlantic slave trade, which lasted from the 15th to the 19th centuries, involved the forced transportation of millions of Africans to the Americas as slaves. European colonial powers, particularly those from Portugal, Spain, England, France, and the Netherlands, played a dominant role in initiating and profiting from this brutal trade. European slave traders established forts along the African coast, from where they engaged in the capture, purchase, and transport of enslaved Africans. African intermediaries, including some West African groups, were involved in the capture and initial sale of slaves to European traders. However, it is essential to recognize that the transatlantic slave trade would not have been possible without the demand for slaves from European colonizers and the systemic racism and dehumanization enforced by these European powers. While some West African groups participated in the slave trade as middlemen, it is vital to emphasize that the overall responsibility for the transatlantic slave trade lies primarily with the European colonial powers, as they controlled the transportation, sale, and exploitation of enslaved Africans on a massive scale. Understanding the history of the transatlantic slave trade requires acknowledging the multifaceted dynamics involved, including the role played by various African groups, European powers, and the complex social, economic, and political factors that influenced this deeply exploitative and inhumane trade.

However, I’m sure he will be better from now and people in the comments who are closed and holding onto judgement and grudges need to learn that people make mistakes (intentionally or unintentionally) and from now on Id like to believe he won’t be making this mistake and will become a better person. We have to believe in the good of people to grow as better society.

And this is the rhetoric they hear all the time as they are growing up. THEN, I hear a white person say: "Black people need to snap out of it. They aren't slaves anymore and we are no longer slave owners."
Why do you think a lot of white people accept that you're a product of your environment in something pertaining to this guy on this video, but dismiss this notion when it applies to the mistakes black people make?
Pretty naive for some to accept that a person is a product of the environment they grew up in only when it suits them. It's going to take several more generations to weed out all the damage done to the black people that were prisoners of war in their country back in Africa, that were then sold to wealthy people in Europe and America....and specifically the ones that were brought to America who were holistically treated like animals - and that took a blood bath earthquake of a civil war to liberate, all of which we still feel tremors and aftershock from even today.

I'm from about an hour away from where he's from. Unfortunately people are raised like that around here. The town he's from is very white, very rural, and when he says things like, he "never really thought about it", as privileged as it is, he's being genuine - there's a lack of exposure, education, and guidance in the South. It's not right, and it sucks.
Ignorance isn't an excuse for bigotry even if it is it's root cause. If you excuse it with that, you excuse all the choices he's made throughout his life to learn and grow out of that ignorance. I'm all for teaching kids in an effort to make sure they don't turn out to be ignorant and hateful, but too many people use ignorance as a defense. At some point in a person's life, we have to stop making excuses and ask how they've managed to get so far and not understand very simple realities and whether they can continue to be excused as blind ignorance instead of willfully ignorant.
@@ComradeCatpurrnicus VERY well said.
I said it isn't right and it sucks. It's not an excuse. Just stating the obvious, that a person can exhibit results of their privilege, while also exhibiting results of lack of knowledge due to coming from a severely underserved community.

Typically saying the N word definitely makes someone racist, especially when alcohol makes the truth come out
Also good job outing yourself as a racist lol
In my younger days I did not know any black people and heard the n word frequently spoken in the worst ways. Then I moved to a mostly black neighborhood and soon most of my friends and loved ones were black. I was affectionately called a reverse oreo. When I thought and spoke, I used to the n word and mf as substitute for man and boy of any color from about age 13 to age 20. While most of my friends and loved ones are brown and black people, I no longer use the term even though it would be a term of affection. I've learned there has been too much pain from that word. And although, I think I used it affectionately in my past, I would not use the word now. Too much pain caused by the word and I have no business using it under any circumstance. For what it's worth, I also stopped saying, "This mf..." instead of "This man..." Grew of that, too.
He only apologized, because he got caught. If we didn't have social media, none of these people would apologized. He knows nothing about history of this country, and has done this on a regular. Dumb ninja
All these white people saying you forgive him... it's not our place to give that forgiveness. Tffffffffff
If he wasn’t talking to a black person and calling them the slur then its forgivable.
What a ridiculous question. “Is there a race problem in country music”. He should have asked back “is there a race problem in hip hop music? Latin music? Irish music?” That’s an absurd idea. He’s really clutching at straws.
Given the context of your comment, I think "grasping at straws" is the most applicable. (Saturdays are my RUclips comments day. I have no life.)😆
@@marshalbaek5580 Do you have a source for this information? We say clutching at straws in the part of Europe I am from, where English language originated from :)
@@gottalovetheinternet My source is The Cambridge Dictionary.....uhhh.....awkward....
No doubt the English Language started in Europe and when it got to Texas, we destroyed it! I mean, we "kilt" it (killed) good.
We had to start all over. We made up a lot new words along the way...most of them I try not to say.
Oddly enough, women from the South in the States wear pearls. And these women can be stereotyped as a bit dramatic. And often times these women will over react to something that someone said so that no one will associate them with whatever was said. And when they start to over react, they reach for those pearls around their neck and grab aholt (a hold) of 'em (them).
I can almost guarantee you the women that clutch their pearls are likely to be the most guilty of whatever thing was said.
So did the term "clutch your pearls" originate in the South United States? No. It first came out in a show called "In Living Color." Hey - your guess is as good as mine. I have no idea how that happened.
I've never been to Europe. I bet I would like it. I could start a ground swell of Englishmen speaking English in the Tex/Mex dialect and thus destroying the English language there too! I would call it: "The boomerang effect!" Seems appropriate don't you think?
I'm out. PEACE!!
Seriously. I gotta get out more.
@@marshalbaek5580 I just did some googling and I reckon the terms are interchangeable :) But yes, welcome to Europe anytime :) Would be happy to have you!
Imagine getting offended by a word
Question, what about the rap music that CONSTANTLY uses the N word? Why is that not racist? I guess it's not if you're a hippocrit.
Hmm just logically thinking which one is more likely to be true, what someone says when they are with friends and they don't think anyone is looking or what someone says when they are in front of a camera and they know millions of people are watching ?
Pfft. That’s your logic? Wow. You give yourself too much credit.
Either everyone can say it or everyone needs to stop, black people included. I mean, why is it ok for them to say it in rap songs? It’s harmful. And it can perpetuate bad stereotypes.
LOGICALLY, use of the n-word is never going to stop. The real question people should be asking is to what extent can the use of the n-word be justified within society without it causing social harm? I’m of the opinion that a PERFECT society is one of which where there is no racist biases and therefore, no language to further racist biases. Think about it: there were probably a bunch of horrific racial slurs that Romans used to use against Barbarians. Do those words have any meaning now? No. They’re now lost in time. We either don’t use them or we don’t know what they are. They don’t mean anything now. It’s now disconnected from people’s experiences. In large part, the attempt to enforce the kind of behavior of trying to get people to stop saying the n-word would just lead to the normalization of even worser behavior (you’re literally telling someone you can’t say or do something). It would lead to substitutes (you would have trolls trying to come up with new words to use as a racial slur). Like, how would you police the n-word to the black community (they say it in rap songs)? It just sounds like a utopian project. And if that’s the case, we might as well get rid of racism in general.
@@N1ght_walk wow imagine comparing what romans did thousands of years ago to a word that is still used in a racist way even now. Tell me, if you think the word is totally harmless then why don't you call someone a n*gger right now?
@@lilahdog568 I used the Romans as an example of what use of the n-word could be, obviously.
And I don’t use the n-word. It’s not a part of my lexicon. But I do defend the principle.

@@VaughnOfficalMusicthat doesn’t explain why they use a derogatory and so called offensive word to describe eachother. Its kinda sad.
It's called taking a slur and making it our own just like a fat boy calling himself fat 🤷
@@darkninja2772It's 2024, and you still seriously don't understand the difference? Can you relate to the idea that people will often say things to and about their family, but when someone else talks about them it's fighting words? When people have had hate speech used against them, they will often try to reclaim and rebrand the word to give it less power. Why is this so hard to understand? Can we never move past the 'Black people say it too' conversation and just do better? Wouldn't it just be easier for people to stop saying a word that others clearly find hurtful? You're expecting minorities to deal with all the baggage that comes with hearing those slurs, as if that's somehow easier than you just dropping a word from your vocabulary. That's wild to me
Guarantee Strahan has used the word more than Morgan Wallen, but yall ain't ready for that conversation
@Oke Ihenacho I'm pretty sure seventy percent of you guys use that word every single day to one another. Cut the crap.
More deflection I see.
Unfortunately, that word is used too often. Its used between black people to each other. Its used by white people as a racial slur. Its used between white people as banter. Its all to free to use.
That word should be unpopularized. No more use in rap. No more use jokingly. No more use, period.
Now, this guy made this segment about himself. What he's going through consequencailly, how he's being victimized now, and the "good" he's trying to do now. This wasn't a real apology. A real apology would be, "I'm sorry. Genuinely Sorry. That's it."
This person didn't say I'm sorry for hurting people. Words do matter so remember that. Think before you speak and remember how it feels to be insulted by someone. Black people have had it hard in this country . Just look at the history and remember this segregation was resent . I was 50 years ago. Go ask a baby boomer about it.

When discussing the history of the word and the transatlantic slave trade, it is important to note that West African slavers played a role in the capture and sale of enslaved individuals, primarily within the context of intra-African slavery.

Context matters & 'this word' lives on it's own planet. Dude did not use it towards a Black person & yet we all know a Black hip hop/rap artist can drop it 10 times in a song & win an award. I get it, it holds a special place in history. Some people hold the value of 'how its has been retained' in modern society, in high esteem & yet in its most commonly used context, it's used with absolutely no regard. I'm not passing judgment, just stating facts.
I get it. I feel the same way. I took no offense to what he said to be honest. He said it to his homies. But tbh I don’t think he would say it around black people without their knowledge. But rappers can rap about it and say it because they are black bro.
@vicdemone3901 Vic Demone Jr Jr, like any other opinion on the planet, folks will disagree with this, but in my humble opinion, this green light black folks have to use it, has completely backfired for black folks AND for everyone else. The 'we took it back & we took the power away' logic is utterly f'n ridiculous. #1 it's an evil, vile word that is still degrading & vile when non-white people use it, so it still has power & #2 - when you here black people use it always sounds ghetto & ratchet (except to people who think sounding ghetto is cool or the folks that don't even know what sounding ignorant is) & it lowers the 'how we carry ourselves' bar for the community. It's become so common place that it's role model'd for younger kids & has become very acceptable. Just like the phrase, 'MF'er, better 'put together' people don't use it & that's no coincidence. Folks don't need to be appropriate robots but there are just things that lower standards of decency & appropriate behavior. As a society, we seem to continually lower the standards ....so yeah, no one took sh_t back.
