    I carry two car tyres, about 600 x16 inch, which I have wrapped in rope gained from beachcombing. You would need smaller tyres--they are great for slowing down a bot--toss them astern on a LONG rope. These wrapped tyres function as drogues when towed, and serve as fenders when at the dock. On the foredeck deck they serve as dinghy supports, one each side under the stern, and a bag of corks or anything firm but soft supports the bow. The dinghy is bowsed down using ropes and whatever webbing I can scrounge to cover the keel edges to prevent chafe.

    I worked the "maneuvering plot" many years back on a Coast Guard Cutter. Avoiding collision can be done with one or two different things. 1) Zig-zag. If your boat is a powered vehicle the speed can be maintained. A sailboat works under a different principle so option two comes into play. I've never used option two because I've never been in a sail boat but I would recommend a "sea anchor" which is nothing more than a small parachute type of anchor that, when secured to a cleete and tossed over the stern, can slow you down so that you don't have to change your attitude with the wind. I hope this input helps.

  • @jameshassell8110
    @jameshassell8110 3 года назад +3

    Why do they call it a boom? Because that's the sound it makes when it hits you in the head during an unexpected wind change. 😀 Been there, done that. Fair winds and following seas. Stay safe Holly. Love you much! 💖💖💖

    Hey Tony Zehe, how about designing brakes for a boat? You could make a couple of bucks. Maybe something about the same as air brakes on planes. Panels that deploy from the hull. Or a reverse thrust? They might have them, but something to look into. Just thinking about a diff lifestyle. Anyways, stay safe my friend. :)

    gettin sexy more each month little miss Hippie. I wonder if the sea air makes the spirit more vibrant , since most sailors have that tan soapy complexion . Even when they are old and wrinkled from the sea, sun & years. And their story telling becomes crisp and detailed. Yet leaving enough out so every imagination has a personalized vision as they form a picture from those words, they hear.

      I know most sailors have a pretty good supply of antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs and pain meds... And in a case like this, both of them being single handed sailors, they've buddied up and travel together, covering each other's back... if one needs medical attention beyond what they carry onboard, my guess is the other would take them to the nearest medical facility... they also have their radio and could call for assistance from a local coast guard, or the country's equivalent...
