    YIKES! It took you at least 2 passes to straighten some pieces and others took 3+ passes... and your hair was pleasant to begin with. This could possibly be a good product for people who have nearly straight hair to begin with and don’t want to damage their hair to make it as sleek as possible BUT for anyone else, it just doesn’t make sense to purchase this straightener.

  • @rebeccatalbot4531
    @rebeccatalbot4531 4 года назад +31

    Even though you said you can straighten in one swipe, I could see you were doing it 2-3 times per section, which kind of negates the point about less hair damage. Maybe it is because you are so used to doing it 2-3 times but yeah. To me it just looks like straighteners. I guess the main selling point is the cordless feature and the grip looks good when curling because I always find my hair falls out when curling with a straightener.

    I mean surely just using normal straighteners on a lower temperature would have more or less the same effect in terms of damage, I just don’t see why they’re worth that much, I was more expecting between £150-£200. I wish they would have made a pair of straighteners that straightened with air flow as that doesn’t really exist.

    • @chelseachelsea42

    Just the fact that it’s cordless with a stand is super appealing to me! The Air Wrap didn’t interested me particular and I’m on the fence about the hair dryer but I’m definitely considering this. My hair does pull/rip on the outer edges of the straighter all the time so it would be awesome to eliminate that. Thanks for the review Fleur, I trust your opinion as being honest!

  • @Heartbeatt101
    @Heartbeatt101 4 года назад +65

    I think the air wrap was worth the money because it was sooo innovative, I’m not getting that from this. I only use one pass with my current straighteners. When they mentioned less damage I thought it was something to do with the plates, but it’s not, it’s just you not going over and over the same section. For £400 I was expecting a bit more just my opinion.

    • @charmax88

      I think the steam straighteners from LOreal are more innovative, give a better result than standard straighteners and are WAY cheaper than these

    • @denisefrost
      @denisefrost 4 года назад +2

      I agree I love the air wrap, its the only thing I use for everything, drying, curling, the brush attachment give you a good straightened sleek look too. Haven’t needed to use straighteners at all since I have been using this. I cant help but think James Dyson has lost the plot now with something like this. I get that he has taken the direction to tap into the lucrative beauty market. But now its reinventing the wheel for £400. The loreal steam pod for a third of the price does look to have more innovation. Babyliss do cordless also, much cheaper.

    • @chelseachelsea42

    These look good but I have very thick and rather curly hair, it takes me 45 minutes to properly straighten my hair - I always see reviews for these things from people with straight hair to begin with and end up searching hard to find a review that actually reflects what it would be like for me. And they never work as effectively as they do on already straight hair!
    I’m quite tempted though, love the cordless element but it’s not a feature that would really work for me if they only last 30 minutes 😱

    So, I’ve had my GHDs for 11 years! A little over £10 a year isn’t bad, however, my concern would be about the battery in these, will you be able to replace the battery in 2-3 years when it degrades, or will you then have to use it with the cord? Because that would then take away the value and make the yearly cost of ownership substantially more then ghd or other leading higher end straighteners? (And arguable once the battery goes not a substantially better) however if we could replace the battery at a reasonable cost, then that would make them a better investment?

    • @nicoletoptotoe6723

      Leighanne Metcalfe good point! Do you have the GHD platinum? I’ve thinking of purchasing a GHD, but I don’t know anyone who owns one. I have a CHI iron I’ve had for over 10 years and it has been such good quality, but the plates are a bit worn and it might be time to upgrade.

    • @leighannemetcalfe8320
      @leighannemetcalfe8320 4 года назад +2

      Isabel Hoyos I actually have the old mkIV’s (I think the platinum are about mk8 lol) my sister has the platinum though and they are really nice (like I would upgrade mine to them if I straightened my hair more then 1/2 times a week) or , can’t vouch for the longevity but she’s had them 2/3 years now, so not awful. Apparently the other good ones on the market are cloud nines, but don’t know anyone with them 🤷‍♀️

      I love my ghd, i think the only thing thats putting me off about buying a newer version of it is the reviews stating the ghd’s are not as durable as they used to be. I’ve had my ghd for about 12 years... My mom bought it for me for my 15th birthday and I’ve loved it ever since. It’s amazing! But i am afraid of them not working like they used to. That’s the ONLY reason I’m even considering a Dyson, but you just made a HUGE valid point. What will happen with this straightener in 2-3 years, the battery wear .... $500 is a lot of money.

    You said the appeal of this product is saving time & damage by only passing each section once? But you went over multiple pieces, multiple times. It’s shocking that these will only last 2/3 years (This is the lifetime of a rechargeable battery)
    This straightener is a hard pass for me.

    I own 4 Dyson products, including the airwrap. I can not see the value in this though. Going by current exchange rates it will be around $800AUD! I currently do a single pass using my GHD Platinum and I have curly hair. There are plenty of straighteners that you can do a single pass and even straighteners with flexible plates. This Dyson straightener uses the same heat as other straighteners, so if you do multiple passes (which Fleur did) you are getting similar heat damage, So I am disappointed with this. I was expecting something with steam. I would have still purchased it if it had been half the price!

Let’s just keep it 💯 and say “a LOT more” because that’s exactly what this price point is. Also i love how all these influencers are out here saying “for me that price is worth it” as if they weren’t sent it for $0 from the company for those very unbiased reviews lol. I don’t think the issue is about you being able to see the value in the product and others not. We can see the value in using the product fewer times over the hair to achieve a straight look is less damaging to the hair. It’s the value that to A LOT of people in the U.K. at the moment, £400 is nearly their rent. Salaries are not increasing in line with cost of living and this price tag and advert is very out of touch with that. In addition, you still went over pieces of your hair multiple times, so it looks the same as any other straightener. Before I part with money, I need to see this on someone that doesn’t have fine, more or less straight hair to start with.

It's not a terrible flat iron by any means as Dyson is a reputable, excellent and innovative brand but the price in my opinion does not warrant the effect. I took the plunge and bought the air wrap, I only use it for the hairdryer attachment my hair is defiantly too long and too thick for the air wrap to work, if you have shorter finer hair - maybe it’s good? I was disappointed so won’t invest in overpriced dyson hair items anymore. Also who on earth only straightens their hair for ‘5-10minutes’ a 30 min charge would never last me my full head let alone trying to curl with them!

    Loved this, I straighten my hair everyday so this looks like a good investment to make. I'm going to start saving right away!

    I love my Dyson airwrap and i can totally justify the price as it replaces several tools. But this price for 1 straightener is painful.

    1st pass my ass. Sorry but you went over the same areas of your hair multiple times.. and your hair isn't dead straight. I don't see any difference between these and say a pair of GHDs.

    Too pricey and a bit disappointing. The price should’ve been at least half of that price lol. I love their airwrap though because you can use it 6 different ways.

    Was exciting but it wakes me longer than thirty minutes for an initial straighten that’s kind of annoying

    The price is just too much. Why do Dyson make flashy products that people want to buy but then price themselves out of the game ? If they just dropped the price a bit I’m sure they’d sell twice as many. 🤦‍♀️. If I survive caronageddon I might consider it but only if Boots have a serious points event. Thanks for the review Fleur xx

    I don't think it's a case of people not seeing the value in investing in things like this for the benefit of your hair, it's more the fact that whether people see that or not, a lot of people simply can't afford it. £400 is a lot of money to have spare to spend on a non-essential item. I would love the Dyson hair tools as I have thick, coarse, frizzy hair but I simply can't afford to spend that amount 😪

    You know what guys I wouldnt spend money on this the only reason being is you can get straighteners that work the same way without spending over 100 pounds and I’m not being funny right but how can you say for certainty that this straighter is 50% less damaging then others straighteners. Anything with heat is dangerous on the head when a hairdryer what you can simply do is just buy heat protectors and use your expensive straighter you already have… also you can do cute hairstyles without the necessary needs of heat just saying I wouldn’t bother on this product one little bit other then that. You girl is very pretty and your hair naturally as it is just like beautiful but I wouldn’t purchase products that tell you they are 50 percent less damaging to the hair when In reality you don’t know that

    Your videos are now always sponsored. It’s hard to believe they are your honest opinions. It takes away the authenticity . No matter how you slice it and dice it... Dyson is paying you. And they aren’t going to pay you to post a negative review .... period.

    • @kay9528
      @kay9528 4 года назад +4

      They gave her the product to try first, if she did not like it she would not have made this video. She has done sponsored videos before where she mentions a few negatives of the product aswell. Thats why people trust her opinion. Also shes not asking you to buy anything. She's just explaining the benefits and how to use it. So if you don't like what you see then don't buy it. And yes she does do a few sponsored videos in a month, but you know it is a youtubers main source of income? You know that right? I don't know of RUclipsrs who don't do sponsored vids.
