John, never underestimate the power in a hand made gift to your children. Like my father I did the same with my son. My suggestion is to either carve or burn in your Sons name and “ From/Love Dad and the date. Trust me I speak from experience, your son will cherish this tool box and he will do the same for his children. This was a great video. God Bless and Merry Christmas

Great way to encourage his imagination and desire to work with and his hands.
One of my first woodworking projects was for my 4 yo son, now 28. It is in my garage on a top shelf waiting for him to have a less dynamic life and more space for his stuff. His toolbox was also white oak though I went with a hinged top and top tray design. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

anytime I make finger joints I get tear out. Yours were nice and clean. I know I can back it with another piece of wood but that would be required for ever finger. Any tips? Thanks.
I did have a little tear out here with the white oak but it wasn’t terrible so I just kept goin. A backer board like you said is best, and the harder the wood you use for the backer, the better. There are blades or dado stacks, or Freud even makes a box joint blade set, that have a more positive hook angle on the teeth designed to prevent tear out as well

Another great build I love the construction of the tool box I've alwa6d just glued one spot on the bottom I had no idea they had little ball you can stuff in there I think I will have to look into getting me some of those
Yep! I like them for cabinet doors especially. Keeps them centered and from rattling around 👍🏽

Good video! And I have a question, what is your favourite white top coat paint to use?
For actual paint I like Sherwin Williams Emerald. For cabinetry and furniture, I use white tinted lacquers

Nice project. I’m looking at an 18” for my business (need the bigger resaw capacity) and Laguna is at the top of my list. Did you consider the LT series when you were comparing? Big jump in price for sure, but man what a sweet machine. It looks like you went through that white oak like butter so you have me thinking I could use that couple grand a different way!
No I hadn’t even considered it. I tested this one out at a local woodworking store and knew it would be what I needed
